EagleChick19's Rush thread!!!

Hey everyone!!

I'm EagleChick19! I'm a second year sister in a GLO. I go to a state school in PA. But, our informal recruitment starts on the 4th of September. My sisters and I are working hard to attract PNMs. My campus has 4 sororities and 6 fraternities, which means that less than 3% of my campus is Greek.

I am going to post our account of the Recruitment period from Info Night (Sept 4th) to Bid Day(Sept. 26th)

Wish us luck! :)

KillarneyRose 09-02-2002 03:01 PM

Good luck to you and your sisters during Rush (sorry, I'm old and I refuse to change my dated terminology ;) )

Do you go to Lock Haven University? What GLOs do you have there?

EagleChick19 09-02-2002 03:06 PM

Yes, I do go to Lock Haven University (even though no one has heard of it!!)

The sororities we have here are:
Alpha Sigma Tau
Sigma Kappa
Sigma Sigma Sigma
Zeta Tau Alpha

Fraternities:
Alpha Chi Rho
Alpha Sigma Phi
Kappa Delta Rho
Phi Mu Delta
Sigma Pi
Tau Kappa Epilison (sp)

Lambda Chi Alpha did have a Charter here, but it was revoked. After the spring semester, they can reapply for their charter.

Thanks, KilarneyRose! :)

Good luck!

Good luck with your recruitment EagleChick19, from a fellow 19er! I hope you and your sisters meet many wonderful women and have a great new member class!

EagleChick19 09-03-2002 07:14 PM

Well, there have been some developments. Our Panhellenic has decided to move our Info Night to the 12th (during the day), when the campus also have the club fair. Our skit night is also the 12th in the evening....Oh boy!!

shopgirl 09-03-2002 08:15 PM

Which GLO are you in?
Will you let me know how Sigma Kappa does?

Thanks,
Shopgirl

Good Luck with Recruitment, EagleChick19!! May you pledge some wonderful girls this year. My chapter's recruitement is this coming weekend, so I will be going there to help out. I felt honored because they asked me to pick up some of the Bid Day goodies for the new PMN's (of course I shopped for myself also!!!:D )

Here's to a great and spirited Recruitment!! Tau love to all sisters.
GO AST!!!

shadokat 09-04-2002 10:24 AM

EagleChick, I know Lock Haven QUITE well :) Used to date a KDR from there back in younger days (1995-6). Best of luck to you, AST and all the sororities at LHUP!

p.s. I'm a bloomsburg girl!

EagleChick19 09-04-2002 12:12 PM

Thank you, PsychTau, Shopgirl, and shadokat for all of your encouragement!! :)

MuAZD 09-04-2002 01:58 PM

Hey EagleChick! Best of luck with your recruitment. We had our first event last night and sooooo many great girls came out!
I'm quite excited because I get a little little this semester too!:D The AST chapter here is doing really well too-they really upped their numbers this past year!

EagleChick19 09-05-2002 01:24 PM

Thank you all for the warm wishes, and soon as our events get under way, I will let you more about them! :)

EagleChick19 09-11-2002 05:28 PM

Well, last night (the 10th), we had Round Robins. Essentially, all the girls get to see all the sororities. That's how it suppose to go. Well, it didn't!! One group of girls wanted to see XYZ sorority and after seeing them left Round Robins. Another group of girls wanted to ABC sorority, and did the same thing as the other girls. My sorority only saw three girls! Oh boy!!

YIKES!!! That's not very fair.
Is it not mandatory that every woman visit every sorority?

EagleChick19 09-11-2002 08:00 PM

Yes, each woman is suppose to see each of the sorority. But, if they can't for a specific reason (like class), then they can see some of them.

MoxieGrrl 09-12-2002 09:09 AM

That's soooooo crappy that everyone did not visit every house. While sometimes it sounds ideal to just go to one or two that you want, how many of these recruitment threads said, "Wow, I didn't know these girls/like them before, but rush really changed my opinion!"

What do chapters normally do when you know a girl that is going through but she didn't visit your house? Is that an automatic cut? Or do they sometimes get invited back?

This semester, here at LHU, we're having "structured" informal recruitment!! The rules surrounding this are a little fuzzy. We didn't have round robins at the individual sorority's house (since one of them has a "house"). The others have places where several of the sorority's members live together, but there's not known as houses.

Since we have informal recruitment this semester, the girls are allowed to go wherever they want to go...

33girl 09-12-2002 01:42 PM

Sorry this is late but...

EagleChick19 -

When we had structured informal, it consisted of Meet the Greeks (Round Robin), theme, and pref. Every rushee had to visit every group at MTG even though it was an "informal" rush. This was held in a campus building, in classrooms. (That way the rushees couldn't duck out and try to skip a group)

Theme - you could skip the ones you wanted to skip. These were held at the sorority's house, an "unofficial" house, or in a campus building, depending on the facilities the group had/wanted to use.

Pref - invite only. We could invite girls who didn't come to theme, if we wanted. Events held at the same places as theme.

It is basically like guys' rush except with a round robin and no porno (hee hee).

MoxieGrrl 09-12-2002 02:05 PM

Ohhh...I see! Well, that's a pretty good idea, I guess. It's cool that open bids get that same excited, "where will I end up?" feeling that formal recruitment PNMs have.

Do the bulk of your members come from the formal recruitment in the spring?

Also, do the chapters at LHU have webpages? I tried to look it up on the college website, but didn't have much luck.

Well, I know that Tri-Sigma has one. The address is: http://phoenix.lhup.edu/~sss/. The other might, but they are not in LHU's official system. AST has an alumnae website, but that's it.

A lot of our members pledge in the spring. I pledged in the spring of 2001 with 7 other people.

EagleChick19 09-12-2002 09:26 PM

BTW, I forgot to tell you that we had another event tonight!!! This time it was Skit Night! Basically, all the sororities put on some kind of skit. I'll give a rundown of what everyone did.

ABC: They did a skit called "Cooking with the ABC's". It was cute. Two sisters were controlling the hands of two other sisters while trying to bake a cake!!

DEF: They did a skit called "The DEFs Man." It was a take off of the Ladies Man from SNL. It was hilarious!!

GHI: They did a skit taken from SNL about Stewart. It was very funny.

JKL: They did a skit called "Who wants to be an JKL sister?" They had to answer questions about the organization.

PsychTau 09-13-2002 12:18 PM

EagleChick19,
Hang in there!! Any sort of organized rush was rather challenging for us on my campus as well, but we always did well with COB. Those who truely are AST's at heart will find you. . .and you will find them.

I feel your frustration. . .I've been there too!! Good Luck!

Tau Love and Roses,
PsychTau

EagleChick19 09-14-2002 08:52 PM

Well, we have 2 parties next week (Mon and Thurs). Our final party will be on the 23rd. The PNMs can pick up their bids from the Greek Life office on the 26th. Also, on that day, is BID DAY!!!!!!!!!

EagleChick19 09-17-2002 08:11 AM

We had a rush last night. Our theme was "Game Night." But, no PNMs came. But, the night wasn't a totally waste. We talked about our theme for homecoming. But, we have another rush on Thursday.

EagleChick19 09-20-2002 09:01 AM

We had another rush! Two girls came out last night!!! Wahoo! Our final party is Monday night, and we're supposed to have even more girls come out then!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippppeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

KappaKittyCat 09-20-2002 10:32 AM

EagleChick,

Believe me when I tell you that I know what it's like to throw a COB party and have nobody come. It sucks-- that's what it's like. The important thing is not to let your sisters get discouraged. I'm glad you used the time to discuss your Homecoming theme. I remember several times when we just wound up playing Twister or Trivial Pursuit by ourselves, but it was still fun sisterly bonding. Best of luck to you during your "Pref" parties. I know you'll find some cool new sisters.

Yours,
KappaKittyCat

EagleChick19 09-20-2002 06:49 PM

KKC and FJ,

Thank you for all your support! I really appreciate it!

Fiona, I am also majoring in Poli Sci w/ a minor in History. Actually, its very cool that you're from right nearby!!

I still have Greek love for ya, KKC!!
