Texas State University-San Marcos

I know it's a bit early but I've been thinking about joining a sorority next year. I've barely found any information on txst sororities and what it's like to go through recruitment there. I don't know anyone that attends so if there is some who knows could you please answer some of my questions? lol

-how competitive is it?
-do looks play a large part? (I'm a larger girl and I'm not sure how this will affect my chances)
-are recs recommended? and if so, how would I go about getting them?
-do most girls end up getting bids or is there a large portion that end up getting cut?

Sorry, but before I pay $90 I'd like to know my chances. :)

- Compared to UT, Bama or the like - not cut-throat competitive. That said, there are many highly qualified young women who go through every year.
- It's hard to quantify the part looks play - it goes into membership selection - but I can say that if you look at pictures of the chapters you will see all sizes of young women. I can think of a chapter or two which in my opinion might consider it more than others, but your personality and qualifications are going to count for much more.
- Yes, you need recs. Sign up with your local alumnae panhellenic and put out the word you are planning on going through recruitment amongst your teachers and mom and dad's friends.
- I don't have the percentages here, but young women who go through and keep their options open are highly likely to get a bid. Please understand - the odds don't really mean anything because it depends so much on individual variables.

FYI - the campus is open for expansion; there may be a new chapter coming on Fall 2012.

Good luck.
