We regularly walk around in them.

Pretty much all the time.

You all keep telling our secrets.

I mean, the secret can't be kept.

Guys! Help the kid already!

to the thread starter:

Yes, we often wear togas on a regular basis. It is considered appropriate for most activities such as work and school, as well as some formal functions (the more formal, like prom, we wear togas that are decorated with stuff like sequins and lace). Togas are really comfortable as well as being a huge part of our Greek heritage, and we are proud to wear them at all times!

SWTXBelle 02-21-2009 03:23 PM

We secretly wear them under our "regular" clothes - shhhhhhhh!

knight_shadow 02-21-2009 03:27 PM

We don't wear them here. There's a law in my city that says a Greek house with 5 or more people in togas is a brothel...

Sister Havana 02-21-2009 11:50 PM

Oh yes. We all wear them over our catsuits for certain ritual things.

No offense, but why would you come on a message board asking for help regarding a school project?

Little32 02-22-2009 01:53 PM

^^Because the youth today have no concept of appropriate research sources and practices. *smh*

I'd love to see the citation for this.

Source: Walk, Elephant. "Do Greeks still wear togas?" Thread on GreekChat.com. Online resource. 2/21/2009.

Unfortunately I don't think there will be a citation.

I can't disclose information about other sororities, but in Alpha Phi we are required to wear full dress togas (white with silver and bordeaux trimming) on important days like Founders Day. Wearing a toga in public was really really embarrassing the first few times, but now I am used to it.

Unfortunately, movies like Animal House perpetuate the stereotype that togas are to be used only for partying purposes. That stereotype is offensive to the founders of all GLOs, as they envisioned a simpler world based on morality, love and scholarship. They wore togas to symbolize their commitment to those values, and so often GLO members will wear togas in public to honor the ideas of the founders.

Hope this helps!
