“I think the best part of being in a new chapter at a large and old school like Penn State is being able to write yourself into the history,” said Ellen Elmore, Tri Sig’s assistant director of new chapter growth. “Thinking about charter classes from 50, 60, or 100 years ago, you get to be that for Tri Sigma here.”
But...it’s not a new chapter, it’s a reopened chapter. They have decades of history already.

For the record, that's our chartered number not the active number. I believe we have 245 active chapters.

Tau Kappa Epsilon - 481 charters, 243 active

Alpha Phi Alpha - 414 charters, 354 active

Kappa Sigma- 412 charters, 320 active

Lambda Chi Alpha- 322 charters, 194 active

Sigma Alpha Epsilon - 317 charters, 239 active

Sigma Nu- 278 charters, 170 active

These are rough numbers.

Alpha Sigma Alpha's Gamma Pi Chapter at Missouri Valley College has closed. The chapter was chartered in September 1967. The college in general appears to be having challenges where Greek life is concerned with TKE speaking about their declining membership.

Good grief....that article is a hot mess. It says it's written by Kieren Wilson, Staff Writer, and then the footer says it's a post by Dakota Cantwell. Either way, I can't make heads or tails of the situation.

The article states that part of the reason for a decline in Greek Life is due to an increase in enrollment of international students. Missouri Valley College reports "Missouri Valley College’s fall 2018 enrollment is 1,506, which is the largest enrollment in the College’s history. Of the 1,506 students currently enrolled at MVC, 549 are incoming freshmen, 687 are Missouri residents and 291 are international students."

MVC has two NPC sororities, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Theta Phi Alpha, and two NIC fraternities, Alpha Sigma Phi and Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Xidelt 12-05-2018 07:59 AM

I couldn't figure out who the Wilson quoted was. And it said there was a large turnover in the student body, but then offered no explanation. I also couldn't make heads or tails of situation with TKE in the article.

In addition to Kappa Sigma, three other fraternities have lost recognition at the University of Iowa: Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Nu. The school found the groups guilty of violating an alcohol moratorium that had been imposed last year.
