NIC implements new alcohol standard.

Not impressed. There are lots of ways to get around this.
This all stems from banning of kegs. We never had hard liquor at parties - too expensive!! |
I'm getting a 404.

I think this is a very wise move. I hope it helps.

I know that a handful of fraternities had already adopted alcohol-free housing or "dry fraternity" policies (either general policies or specifically recruitment and pledging related). I wonder if NIC took the time to examine the impact of those policies to determine if they had a significant and positive effect for those dry fraternities.

It's not too new of a policy - most fraternities in the NIC have something similar in the books. In any case, policy won't change the culture. The hard alcohol will simply be consumed during "unrelated" "pre-game" events prior to any fraternity activity (students with flasks can be found at every college campus with similar policies).
That said I'm not too concerned with the policy. It is at best some positive PR and at worst another red-tape measure which will drive dangerous activity further underground - but such is the norm with fraternities these days :/ |
