House Music

Does anyone listen to House? I listen to it while I study sometimes. I posted this because I'm listening to Demetrie from Paris right now. I like European House the best.:)

Anyone else listen to it?

knight_shadow 01-21-2009 01:45 AM

I do. That was pretty much all I listened to when I was in high school. Now, I listen when I need to chill or hang out (I don't do the club thing much anymore).

I've been listening to a lot of Naked Music (Aquanote, Aya, Lisa Shaw, etc) and OM Records (Soulstice, Gina Rene) recently. They're pretty good.

Yea, I have that album (though I thought it was called Strange Flower). It's still getting heavy rotation on the iPod :p

Thanks for pointing them out :D

moe.ron 01-21-2009 03:44 AM

Give me progressive, techno and tribal.

Me love some Detroit Techno. Will have to upload some of my mixes, but they're mostly tribal and tech trance.

Some of these artists and their tracks are up on youtube also it's been around for almost 30 years...

Where did you club when you were in the area?

Fantasy/Paradox was the place for house music on Saturday nights.

Odell's was it on Friday nights.

and I think anything else you had to travel north to NYC

One thing I loved about both was that you didnt have to go thru the pretense of 'dressing up' in slacks, dress shoes, shirt and tie just to meet some women...you could just go comfortably because guaranteed you was coming out at 4,5 or 6 am drenched.

You know, now that i think about it...my best friend met his wife there....HAHAHAH!

.......and our other friend met ONE of his babymommas there too...heh!

RU OX Alum 01-21-2009 09:40 AM

Roger Sanchez is good

I like Groove Armada the best.

Older Mark Farina stuff, especially out of hi San Franciso days, is golden.

Thanks?:o

any of you familiar with Ultra Nate?

http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...ltra+nate&aq=f

she is local Baltimore talent that is off the hook as far as house music is concerned, very well known in Europe...and to think when we were in high school she was on the choir...hehe!

You will like her!

KSig RC 01-21-2009 01:01 PM

I mean . . . I'm OK with DS and the rest of the over-the-hill gang digging on house music - after all, the Detroit/Chicago heydays coincided well with their youthful love of the original $10,000 Pyramid and the AMC Gremlin.

But anyone who really likes modern music has great options, ranging from some combination of IDM, Italo, or the "blog house" that has really infused new life into the genre. New stuff from Lemonade, Cut Copy, The Field, Justice, Hercules and Love Affair, and even like M83 . . . not to mention the backward-looking revivalists like Isolee . . . it's a whole new world.

Yes, they can't really keep up with Groove Armada releasing the same album every 3 years since 1994.

Haha, I have no problem with Detroit house . . . as long as it's the actual rave-up style, and not the watered-down mass-release cassette trash. Hit up mediafire or zshare and I'll gladly download anything I don't already have and give it a listen.

XAntoftheSkyX 01-21-2009 03:48 PM

I'm more of a hardstyle/happy hardcore guy myself, but I can dig the house scene.

Check these guys out for great hardstyle:
Brisk and Ham: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayP7nznQmow
Sy and Unknown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-smfiVx3v4c
Gammer and Cat Knight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etXEYhSlUgo

RU OX Alum 01-21-2009 04:36 PM

Khan (Finnish guy) is good too

cheerfulgreek 01-21-2009 05:14 PM

If anyone ever gets a chance to listen to Aye, track number 4 is by far the best. That song sold me.

Hmmm...I will send you some links at what I like and tell me what you like and I will try to make a determination of what I can send you...I think our tastes in house may be different.

Before I moved here to go to school I wasn't familiar with house music, at all, but a lot of the radio stations here play it, plus I've gone out with some of my friends/classmates of mine and they got me hooked on it. I'm still learning the artists though.

moe.ron 01-21-2009 06:58 PM

Deadmau5 is not so good. It's the same loops and melody with different notes.

More of a prog. and tribal house fan myself. Sasha & Digweed, Deep Dish, Gabriel & Dresden

I loved that album. Not into house music at all, but really into "indie electronic" a la chromeo, crystal castles, hot chip, digitalism, etc........

I like those bands you mentioned.

FHwku 02-12-2009 05:24 PM

i don't really care for house or techno.

i'm listening to Derrick May's "Strings of Life" right now, though.

RU OX Alum 02-12-2009 07:40 PM

I've noticed that as I get older, I view house and jazz more and more simmillarly.

Both have some influences on each other

True. Most of the "acid jazz" that I listen to sounds more like house than jazz.

My bad, I'm just now seeing this.

I never went out to any house clubs while in MD/DC or Chicago.

I did, however, find one of my old URB magazines with a history of Chicago House. Many of the artists in the issue are artists that you and AKA_Monet mentioned, so I'll def be making an effort to check them out now.

DaemonSeid 02-12-2009 08:22 PM

BTW...Luv Dancin' a House classic
