Fake Pi Phi
Here's a head's up that a local org at Temple University is using some of your org's symbols and letters. You all would know better than I whom to contact at your HQ so the bigwigs can be alerted if they want to do something about this.

sorry to crash, but they're drawing of their crest is prettttty bad..microsoft paint? come on now!
|
 I'll try to forward it. Looks like it hasn't been updated since 2006-7? Maybe their 3 members have graduated!
ETA: love this statement from their FAQs. "All girls that come to the Rush events, and express an interest in the sorority receive a bid to pledge Pi Phi. There is no picking and choosing." Now I hate nastiness and uber-exclusivity but there's a reason for being able to choose your members and anyone who doesn't get it should read the "Weird Rush Stories" thread! |
I often wonder why people try to fake being in specific organizations.
In Delta, we have had many instances of women claiming to be members, and even some going as far as visiting chapter meetings and participating! Good luck on catching these girls. |

This looks like a mockery to our sorority, but I don't think it is.
It just seems that they would put a lot more effort into a sisterhood. Especially with the crest... And I don't mean to be judgemental here but their song is a Cyndi Lauper? I like her and all, but not so much to have her song represent sisterhood. |
It seems they've died out, because I checked out Temple's Greek Life website, and Pi Phi wasn't listed as one of the active chapters. It sort of makes me feel bad for them that they take whoever came down, and in 2006, they only had 6 members.
Maybe the founders had hopes of the campus expanding, and them becoming Pi Beta Phi? |
 and wtf @ the crest.
|
The crest is mighty ugly, and the angels are too, but there are lots of people into angels & I don't see anything else that screams Pi Beta Phi.
And incidentally, this is Temple's Ambler campus, not the main campus where there are several NPCs. |

Believe it or not, there are such things as coincidences. Believe it or not, some people have no idea who all the NPC groups are. I'm not saying there haven't been some straight up imitators (we've outed most of them on here) - I just don't think this is one of them. If it was, there would be way more arrows and wine red and silver blue. |
Assuming this group's site is accurate, and they've been around since 2000 and only closed circa 2006-2007, I'm surprised that they haven't been "outed" before.
In my opinion the colors are also extremely close to ours, but I could see how you could make an argument that it wasn't a copycat. It's not like they copied EVERYTHING about Pi BETA Phi, unlike some of the other copycat orgs we've seen on GC. |
Maybe they were a group hoping to affliate with the national group one day?
I remember before Furman University opened up to national sororities, there were a few local groups that had names very similar to national ones. One was Chios, I believe (obviously a play on Chi-O). I think that in most cases the locals and the nationals did actually match up when the nationals were allowed to establish groups. |
