Favorite scary movies (as Halloween approaches)

What movies really scared you, or creeped you out?

The Shining
Jaws - saw it as a little kid, wouldn't go in the water afterwards
The Conjuring - saw it in the theater, jumped out of my seat twice
The Blair Witch Project
The Sixth Sense - the scene in the car, when he tells her about her mom (chills)
Scream
The Others
The Ring
The Orphanage
The Exorcism of Emily Rose - didn't sleep very well that night

The Omen is a classic, but my favorite viewing was a "pop up" version in which they shared all of the creepy and frightening on set disasters that plagued this production.

I can't watch The Ring. No way no how.

The Sixth Sense, The Others, and The Village are two of my favorites for their surprises along the way.

To this day my daughter and I love to watch the Disney Channel's Halloweentown films even though there is nothing remotely scary about them.

I'm not much for scary movies but here are my few favorites:

The Cabin in the Woods: I think this is more of a satire on horror films than an actual horror movie but it's pretty funny.

Rosemary's Baby

The Exorcist: My class got to watch this during our high school theology class and we got to talk to the only priest permitted to perform exorcisms in the diocese.

The Blair Witch Project: This is probably the scariest movie to me because it feels realistic (well, to an extent). I grew up in a rural, wooded area and there's no doubt in my mind that something similar could happen there. That's what makes this movie so scary to me.

When we moved a year ago, I found my late '60s copy of "Rosemary's Baby". I really liked the book even though the concept gave me the creeps. I thought the movie adaptation was AMAZING--Mia Farrow as the naive, trusting little pregnant tenant, Ruth Gorden as the wily, wicked old disciple of Satan. I LOVED IT!
