Penn State President Laying Down the Gauntlet?

This was published by the President of Penn State this week regarding Greek System. Pretty harsh stuff.

Blah, blah, blah. Someone's just trying to prove he's not a Spanier ostrich, and Greek life is the handiest thing to pick on. The fraternities are already talking about taking a cue from the U of Colorado's IFC and going independent, and they have the manpower, money, and alumni support to do so.

Next.

What the hell is a Spanier ostrich??

Graham Spanier was prez of Penn State when Jerry Sandusky was doing many things he shouldn't have been. When Spanier was presented with reports of Sandusky's misbehavior he basically stuck his head in the sand. And even before all that came out, he came across as kind of an ineffectual dork.

I would love to see IFC go independent. I hope it becomes a trend. The next shoe to drop might be zoning within the community though. I know my alma mater has a partnership with the municipality it lies within regarding a "Greek Life Zone" where FSL houses are allowed to be maintained.

The Penn State posters would know more, but I think it's kind of a case of what's there is going to be it. That's part of the reason the sororities have dorm suites, there isn't any more properly zoned land to be had.

A fairly good article about Penn State Greek Life and a look at events that have led to the recent policy changes.
