Baylor Kappa Sigma Suspended After Cinco De Drinko Event

There were reports that some students had painted their faces brown, dressed as construction workers and maids, and chanted "build that wall," however a Baylor spokesman said the university had no direct evidence of students with brown face paint, the Waco Herald-Tribune reported.

I realize Baylor's student body is composed mostly of sheltered white wealthy kids, but even my D2 alma mater has measures in place which would have killed this before it ever happened. It's kind of unbelievable that a Big XII school wouldn't have the same measures in place.

Baylor has a lot of rules for its Greek organizations. A. Lot. One of the rules is that there can be no alcohol at fraternity & sorority functions.

Due to this rule, the semi-formals and formals are dry. A side effect of the rule is that there are a large number of unregistered, off-campus parties held by the fraternities that will have themes. This was one of those parties. Baylor Greek Life would not know about the party before hand, unless they were tipped off by someone.

**sidenote: I am responding to the comment about a Big XII school not having measures in place to combat such a stupid decision by a fraternal group.

***sidenote, part 2: I would venture to guess that while Baylor is still majority white, only about 1/3 are "sheltered white wealthy". I would safely say that about 2/3s of the Baylor students (including members of Greek organization) are from middle class backgrounds and a large number are scholarship/loan students who work to pay their Greek dues and other bills.

Ugh... I was in Mazatlán, Mexico last week and Cinco de Mayo was totally not even on the radar. The Canelo/Chavez Jr. fight on the other hand...

Cinco de Mayo is more of a Mexican-American holiday. My family from Mexico never celebrated it. They were surprised to see that it's a big deal in the states when they came to visit. Cinco de Mayo is just a day when a bunch of Mexican farmers beat the French army at the Battle of Puebla. It's no Mexican Independence Day (that Sept. 16)

Coloring books and therapy dogs for all.

"There were reports". For all I know, someone with an axe to grind with Kappa Sigma was the cause of this.
