Wash U Recruitment

all 6 sororities met quota :)

deadbear80 01-15-2007 08:16 PM

And for those inquiring minds...quota was 38.

252 girls started recruitment

If you do the math...that means that only 24 girls either dropped out or did not match which is terrific!

There is talk that another sorority will be brought on campus in the Fall of 2008, but I do not know if the official "We are open for expansion" word has been said by the Greek Life Office. Each chapter right now has between 135-150 girls (which for a school of about 6500 undergrads total is a lot) so adding another chapter shouldn't hurt anyone; it'll just bring each chapter's numbers down to the level where girls can really know each other. I do know that Fall total is 90 (and has been for a looooong time) and there's talk about raising that--especially since Wash U has not really done "Fall Informal Recruitment" truly since the Fall of 1998. Some chapters have done informal COBing in the Fall to get to total but all of Wash U's chapters used to do an informal recruitment semi-structured by the Greek Life Office.

There is only 1 local sorority on campus (Mu Phi Gamma) and they are not a part of Panhel at this time nor have they tried to affiliate with a national sorority. I think you have the wrong campus. This thread is about Washington University in St. Louis, MO

Fraternities' recruitment period has not ended--Sorority Recruitment happens before 2nd semester starts; Fraternities recruit during the first couple of weeks of 2nd semester (which started today).

Hmmm.......just a little snippy there.

Actually yes there was (maybe is) a local on the campus who was interested in affiliating with a national, I know because I had conversations with the woman who was helping them. Yes, it was a while ago and I have no idea if it went anywhere but there was interest at one time.

In fact, the conversation occurred through GC.

And yes, I know which school you are referring to. I went there.

Hmmm.. as far as I know MPG is the only local sorority and they advertise themselves as such. I checked their website and it seems they were founded in 2000 - I'm not sure what you consider to be "a while ago" so this may or may not be the same group. As far as I know MPG is happy as a local sorority as they fill a different niche in our greek system, and I am unaware of any attempts on their part to affiliate with a national. However, it is entirely possible that I am incorrect as I am not an initiated member of their sorority.

How long ago was Gamma Phi at Wash U?

All I said was that I had a conversation about it with someone so at least SOMEONE was considering the idea and it's only been in the last couple of years. I didn't say they actively pursued anything.

We left in 89 or 90.
