Schools where you absolutely positively need recs
Let's start the list. I'll compile on this first post by continuously editing. Carnation, could you sticky this?
You Must Have Recs If You Are Attending Any Of These Schools: All SEC schools (no exceptions!): Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Miss State, Arkansas, Vandy, LSU, Texas A&M Big XII: Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Missouri, Texas Christian ACC: Florida State, Clemson Pac 10: USC, Arizona Southern Methodist Southern Miss Up for Debate: Big XII: Nebraska, Kansas State, Iowa State ACC: UVA, NC State, Wake Forest, UNC Pac 10: University of Washington, UCLA, Cal, Arizona State Big 10: Northwestern UCF Depauw Washington & Lee Indiana--not a must have but a good idea If your school is on the "up for debate" list, you should probably get them anyway, they're just not as critically important as the ones in the first list. |
ACC
Would Clemson, UVA, or FSU be considered? Any other ACC schools?

Georgetown
psyche lol |
Southern Methodist University
Indiana University |
Definitely not Penn State. That would just be too weird.
Also it may be helpful here to link this thread to the one about how to secure recs, because that will most certainly be the next question on the PNMs minds. |

Texas Schools:
UT, A&M, Tech and Baylor (covered in your Big XII category) TCU and SMU Will let others comment on other Texas schools as I am less familiar with their recruitments. |
Arent most of the schools in California competitive?
|
Clemson's Panhellenic site has a page about recs. I would assume they are something that a lot of girls will have.
|
It's my impression that recs are extremely helpful at the University of Washington. (Though maybe not absolutely necessary.) Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Helpful, yes...absolutely necessary, no. |

Recs are useful, but not a must for most schools in California EXCEPT USC.
|
Isn't UCF a school where recs are becoming increasingly more necessary?

Correct me if I am wrong on that |
The University of Arizona

Does anyone have any input on Canadian schools? I know Greek life isn't nearly as big as it is in the U.S. (in general; I can't speak for particular schools), but it'd be interesting to know.

Again about CA schools, it depends on the schools. With the CSUs, it probably varies. With UCs, it also varies. I know hardly anyone has recs at UC Santa Cruz and it's probably the same for UC Merced.

I'm going to take a guess and say that recs would be helpful at UBC and U of T, as they are fairly large Greek systems (at least for Canada). However, I would defer to Greeks actually from those particular schools, that's just an educated guess. |

Good to know, pretty, thanks! I know a couple girls going to UBC next year, and they were wondering.
|
Texas A&M University, University of Texas, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University and Baylor University for sure.
|
Would Wake Forest require recs? My friend who is a Chi Omega constantly is asked to write recs there, but I don't know if they are necessary.

What about UNC Chapel Hill? I don't think that was mentioned yet but isn't their recruitment pretty competitive?

UCLA - It would be nice to have them and they are common enough, but not the end of the world if you can't get them USC - Drop what you are doing and get recs now |
Texas Tech was not mentioned in the Texas group. I suspect to stand a chance with most groups you need them.

Oh I didn't realize the Big XII was split in the first post now.
You need them at Mizzou. I can't speak for the rest of the Big XII North |

DePauw, perhaps? I would think that since this school is quite competitive for a small school, having a rec would be to the PNM's benefit.

I'm under the impression that recs are becoming increasingly important/necessary at Washington & Lee. Does anyone have any insight?
