Exorcist- In perspective, I saw this at the theater before special effects became a part of every movies you see. It was by far the most disturbing I've ever seen considering my age and exposure.

Sixth Sense- GREAT movie. It may be my all time favorite.
Scream-Loved the plot and the take on old movies.
Silence of the Lambs-No way to protect yourself from a nut case...
Pet Cemetary
Alien
Poltergeist
The Shinning
The Omen
Dracula with Frank Langella

I forgot about Amityvill. I can honestly say I've read MOST of the books. It was FAR more eerie than watching the movie...especially when it was 1:00 in the morning and I was alone. After all, the mind can imagine more than any screen can portray.

Whoa, did we forget about Silence of the Lambs?

"The Shining" and "The Exorcist" are the two best horror movies I've ever seen - I get weird just thinking about The Exorcist, and they're both just really well made. Scary in overt and subtle ways, not enough scary movies are like that.

I'd have to put Hannibal right there with it though. What a great seguel. Here's my other eight in no particular order.

Psycho.
The Excorcist.
The Sixth Sense.
Stir of Echoes.
Scream.
The Birds - a la Stephen King.
The Shining.
Thriller - When you are five years old - it is a scary movie. I remember crying because of it.

The Shining
Nightmare on Elm Street
Carrie

Psycho
House on Haunted Hill
The Sixth Sense
and (I just saw this last night-scared the hell outta me)Thirteen Ghosts

Anyone else notice how most of our lists are OLD movies? They just dont make scary movies like those anymore

1. The Exorcist I, II, & III. Especially 3. Little old ladies crawling on ceilings and snipping off heads freaked me out for a looooong time.
2. Amityville Horror (the book alone scarred me so badly that I threw it across the room)!
3. Stigmata (very creepy until you figure out what's really going on)
4. Stir of Echoes
5. The Shining (trust me, the book is much scarier, though).
6. All of the Jason movies - I cannot watch them at all.
7. The Omen (I've never watched this all the way through)
8. Anything with vampires in it (I HATE vampire movies, they look so evil). Dracula 2000 messed me up for a moment referencing Judas Iscariot.

I can't think of anymore that scared me. I used to go see the Nightmare on Elm Street movies for laughs - Freddy had the funniest lines.

I remember reading another book that scarred me badly called 666. I couldn't even finish that one. I don't know if they ever made it into a movie.

When it comes to Evil vs Slasher, Evil wins every time.

I always thought that slasher movie was great for comedy. Freddy just rocked. What ever happen to the rumor Freddy vs. Jason movie anyway?
