Can Study Abroad students join a sorority?

Hi! I'm from the UK and have always wanted to attend a University in America, I am studying at University of Oklahoma this fall and then at SDSU in the spring. I was wondering whether for the fall semester I would be able to take part in recruitment and what the likelihood of getting bids would be?

There are several threads on this on Greekchat. There aren't any rules banning exchange students but if you're only going to be at a school for a semester, your chances of getting a bid are low. Each sorority only has a certain number of spaces they can fill and they're likely to want to fill them with women who will be there 3-4 years.

If you don't participate in recruitment, your chance drop to zero.

Due to COVID19, sorority recruitment at both universities is not certain right now. The University of Oklahoma appears to be moving ahead with in-person classes this fall. As carnation mentioned, being enrolled at the university for only one semester is probably too short of a time. That said, participating in sorority recruitment is still a great American tradition to experience.

For what it's worth, seven of the sorority chapters at University of Oklahoma are also present at SDSU. So, if you did pledge at U. of Oklahoma, you "might" be able to affiliate with the corresponding sorority chapter at SDSU.
