Need Help!!!!!

One of our sisters got disaffiliated today. She want's to appeal it to National and unfortunately has enough support from active/alum to do so.

It's caused a HUGE rift in our chapter.

I guess I want to know what the chances are of a members disaffiliation being overturned by nationals????

And why one would wan to try and come back to a chapter that voted them out????

This would depend on your sorority and its national policies. For example, in my particular sorority, a termination is not something that can be overturned by our HQ because it is HQ that approves them (based on the recommendation of the chapter), and they are final. However, every sorority has different policies.

This is something I would discuss with an advisor or regional coordinator-type person, someone who is more knowledgeable of YOUR sorority policy.

They don't want us discussing it with anyone but the M.A.L. who provide over standards. All she does is tell us that the member was disaffiliated for hazing and would be appealing her disaffiliation.

I know this might sound petty I just want to make sure this girl with no get her membership back!

Frankly standards decisions are confidential and should not be discussed publicly.

As stated by KSUViolet, each GLO has its own policies and procedures on appealing a membership cancellation. My org has an Inat'l committee that reviews cancellation appeals. The appeals procedures with the required time line is provided to the member with her notification of cancellation.

Over the years I have seen cancellations overturned but only on technical/procedural grounds, meaning the required procedures were not followed and/or the paperwork was not in order. Often in this case everything is returned to the chapter and the process may be repeated correctly, then resubmitted. I personally have never seen one overturned on cause simply because membership cancellation should only be pursued in extreme situations when there is a strong justifiable cause and there is no other viable option.

In answer to your last question...to put it on their resume. To participate in alum activities. Because there was politics going on and the majority of the chapter doesn't think it was the right decision.

If the vote just went through today, it will most likely take A WHILE before HQ approves it and she is officially terminated. If she received her actual letter from HQ today, usually there's a certain amount of time given to appeal it. Whether support of actives or alums makes a dent depends on your GLO's policies.

Truthfully, it sounds like this girl got railroaded and deserves her membership back.
