finding your letters somewhere you didn't expect

I was just wondering some random places where people saw their (or another house's) letters.

Last night I was watching MTV Cribs- it was the drummer from Papa Roach's house, and his girlfriend lives with him and was helping with the tour. The camera did a quick shot on her DG paddle and a collage. Even though i'm not a DG, i get excited to see letters. :D

phisiggrrl352 08-07-2002 03:17 PM

haha, i thought i was the only one that noticed. (weren't they in the bathroom?)

you know how applebee's has local memorabilia hangin? well i saw a picture of a group of girls from a local college and one of them was wearing what looked like a phi sig rush shirt (it was a picture from track practice or something like that.) it was just funny because i was sitting down and happened to look up at the wall and there it was!

KappaTarzan 08-07-2002 09:51 PM

one day i was minding my own business driving down a highway in a town about an hour and a half away from my own when i looked at the overpass, and low and behold, my letters! apparantly the chapter up near there did it a few weeks earlier.. i was pretty excited :)

SigKapSundevil 08-07-2002 10:46 PM

About a year ago I was making the long drive from Charleston, SC (where I am from) to Phoenix to go back to school. I was somewhere in the middle of Texas and it was around 2 in the afternoon. There were barely any other cars in sight. All of a sudden a jeep came out of no where and passed me, and when I looked, there were Sigma Kappa stickers on the back the car and on the license plate. The girl must have seen the stickers on my car also, because as she drove by we both looked at each other for a moment and smiled. I have no idea what school she went to or anything, but it was pretty cool to see a sister out in the middle of the interstate with me like that!

hannahgirl 08-07-2002 10:47 PM

The Applebees in Akron has a FIJI composite picture hanging up above one of the tables. Panhellenic Exec was meeting one night and we sat at that table and looked up and happened to notice it.....kinda cool!

DeltaSigStan 08-07-2002 10:49 PM

I SWEAR that the judge on Law and Order Crime and Punishment is wearing a Delta SIg badge when he's in a suit. We know there's one in the SD courtroom but we don't know who.

Eirene_DGP 08-07-2002 11:06 PM

I was watching the Travel channel and on one of the commercials for the world's best theme parks there were two girls on the front wearing Tri Sig shirts.

nwsigkap 08-07-2002 11:18 PM

somewhere that you sure don't want to see your letters!

Well seeing letter's somewhere that you didn't expect....well, the worst one for us was on a different sorority (Sigma Alpha) during greek sing. One of their girls was a Sigma Kappa for a day (long enough to get a bid day shirt) about 2 years ago, and when they got to thier part about Sigma Kappa in their song she just happend to pop out in her old Sigma Kappa bid day shirt! Needless to say we were pissed and are going to start keeping better track of getting back letters of those who drop!

mgold 08-07-2002 11:53 PM

I saw my letters (sigma alpha) on Saved by the Bell the College Years a couple years ago. The only problem was that the show used the letters for a frat that Screech was rushing but it was still fun to see!
:p

The girlfriend actually goes to my school and is involved with the chapter at CSUS. I don't know her personally but one of my friends from DG told me that one of their girls was dating a guy from Papa Roach. I didn't know which member of the band but everything got clarified. Their house is tight.

tkepunx 08-08-2002 02:00 AM

On an old episode of Saturday Night Live, they have a sketch based around a gameshow they call Food Sex and Cars. Will Ferrell plays a fraternity guy whos a contestant, and since he's a TKE, he wears his TKE letters. At one point he yells "TKE RULES", and the announcer from the gameshow says "Yes they do."

I am going to have to check that out the next time we are in Akron.

nwsigkap...you go to Northwest?!? I am from MO and have a few friends who go there!! Anyway to stay on the topic, I think my town is all greek or something. I swear, 3 out of 4 cars have letters somewhere on them. Just within my group of good friends, there are 3 tri-delts, a pi phi, a DG, 2 DZ's, and a Theta...oh and of my guy friends, 4 are KA's, 6 are Lambda Chi, 2 are sigma chi's, and one is a beta...greeks are everywhere!!

I think I saw that episode! He didn't get in, though... but Zack did.:)

And on one of the old Family ties episodes Alex is trying to get into "the" frat, "Alpha Phi Epsilon"... I happened to be on the phone with the guy I was seeing, who was Sig Ep, and when I said it, he even thought I said "Sigma Phi Epsilon"... I think they changed it just enough so that it wasn't a real fraternity, but wanted it to sound like Sig Ep.

If you look at the very beginning of Sorority Life, they flash Delta Gamma, but it's really quick, I was surprised I noticed. They flash another one with Gamma on the end (I think it's Kappa Kappa Gamma but it always flashes too quickly).

ShaedyKD 08-09-2002 11:52 PM

At the Bennigans closest to our school, there are huge KD and Sigma Chi letters hanging across from each other on either side of the foyer/entryway. In true Greek spirit, some Sigma Chis were there the last time a few of my sisters and I were having dinner, and they sent us a pitcher of beer. They're a bunch of sweethearts, and I can't wait to do homecoming with them (and Beta too, of course)!

The first time I saw Road Trip after I pledged, I got so excited when the girl goes to the University of Austin (or is it Boston? I haven't seen it in a while, so forgive me!), and goes to the Kappa LAMBDA house to find the girlfriend...at first glance I thought it was KD! Honest mistake for a new member :p

Oh, and I saw Cribs with Papa Roach too...why would you keep your paddle in the bathroom? I agree that it doesn't really go with the rest of the eastern decorating scheme in the house, but maybe in the study, or bedroom by her dresser of something?! It is really awesome that they showed it though!

chideltjen 08-10-2002 03:29 PM

DOH!

I just totally remembered something about our letters. One of my sisters told me that she saw Chi Delta on TV. But it was the sorority that one of the girls from the MTV show "Undressed" was pledging. Not the most spectacular place for our letters to be all over but well, whatever. I think it was a few seasons ago. I didn't get to actually see the show that featured it. Did anyone?

MoxieGrrl 08-20-2002 02:29 PM

I might have mentioned this on another thread, but......

There is a terrible, horrible porno with "sorority girls" somewhere in the title....but they show sorority houses, all NPC ones at the beginning. And yes, as they bring up the title credit.....there is a giant KD in the background. *sighs*

bubblevicious 08-20-2002 02:46 PM

I've seen Keri from the Chicago cast of the Real World wear ZTA letters

showstopper_1908 08-21-2002 07:56 AM

I've seen Kameelah from Boston Real World wear AKA letters on the show and on The Real World/Road Rules challenge.

Dragon92 08-22-2002 02:50 AM

Old TV show Coach. He has a Beta paddle hanging in his office.

Sig Ep letters

When I first joined my chapter, i heard a story about John Goodman wearing Sig Ep letters on Saturday Night Live. I thought it was just a joke, but I saw on two different episodes that it's true. On one he wears a shirt with purple block letters on it, on the other he wears a shirt with a black/gold skull and bones (symbol on our pin) and has our letters embroidered above the skull and bones. I heard he also wore letters on Roseanne a couple of times, but I've never seen it.

We have a picture of our Chapter's top officers that they took while driving down to our Province Meeting at Illinois Wesleyan a few years ago. They pulled off the highway and posed next to the road sign at the exit for Kappa, Illinois.

And these aren't letters, but our chapter also watches Ashley Judd movies and picks out the fleur-de-lis in each of them (she puts one in every movie she does 'cuz she's a Kappa).

moe.ron 08-22-2002 10:30 AM

I remmember seeing a SigEp hat in Road Rule sometime back. Not sure when.

DeltaSigStan 08-22-2002 10:35 AM

The documentary "Roger and Me" (I still question if that's grammatically correct). They interviewed one of the the former GM plant workers in Flint, and he had a sweater on, kinda looked like the ones that Bill Cosby would wear round the house. Anyway, on his left shoulder were Delta Sig letters made INTO the design.

LeslieAGD 08-22-2002 10:56 AM

There's a bar/restaurant in Ann Arbor that has painting of the U of M Greek houses up on the walls. I thought that was pretty cool.

hannahgirl 09-21-2002 11:21 PM

I was watching Road Rules today (the episode from last week) when they were at ASU. The bar that they were at while celebrating Kendal's birthday had Greek letters everywhere. I saw DG, TKE, Chi O, and Alpha Gam. Just interesting that our organizations would allow their greek letters to be put up in a bar. PR?? maybe, maybe not??

ChiOJenn78 09-21-2002 11:45 PM

I was in a counrty bar last Friday-which is astounding because Galveston is typically ghetto thugville-and I was dancing and I looked up and on the wall behind the dance floor was a big T-shirt with Beta letters on it. I was surprised, but I think the owner was a Beta at Texas Tech.

AlphaChiCutie 09-22-2002 12:05 AM

If you have ever seen the sorority scene in Road Trip, you get to see my house at UGA!! The movie was partly filled at Georgia. Gotta love Alpha Chi!

sbhill2 09-22-2002 12:53 AM

DG Letters

If you look closely at the end of hte opening credits to Sorority Life on MTV you can see DG letters in the background right at the end of the opening credits. COol to see them on TV but not on that show. Nationals are working to take them off the show so that we are not in any way affialiated with it. Intresting little tid bit fact that a lady from nationals told us when she was down helping our chapter with RUSH.

You could also Kappa Kappa Gamma's letters in the bar.

hannahgirl 09-22-2002 08:23 AM

The DG letters on the opening credits have been taken off, however, they are still shown in the reruns of earlier episodes.

CrimsonTide4 09-22-2002 08:50 AM

There used to be a Nickelodeon show called My Brother and Me which featured paddles of Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi.

Also someone mentioned Emmitt Smith who is a member of Phi Beta Sigma (1914).

UToledoFiji 09-29-2002 03:39 PM

Coach

Last night after getting home way later than i expected and unable to sleep i started to flip through some TV channels when i came across the show Coach. I use to watch the show every week when i was younger and it was on during prime time, but one thing i never noticed, nor at the time did it mean anything to me was that right next to the doorway of Craig T. Nelsons cabin is an old Beta Theta Pi paddle. Now that i am in the greek system, and look for those kind of things, it was cool to see them.:)

MoxieGrrl 09-30-2002 10:25 AM

Well, they are not my letters, but in this month's Cosmo, there is a picture of Matthew McConn...(however you spell it) wearing Delta Tau Delta letters. :)

Betarulz! 12-05-2002 12:47 AM

Was "watching" an episode of Timon & Pumba tonight. (I'm supposed to be doing content analysis on children's commercials for my sociology research so I have to watch Toon Disney). They showed Rafiki (the baboon) in his hut or whatever and on the wall were three equilateral triangles in a row. It was definetly Delta Delta Delta!

So while no little kids will ever catch on, Tri-Delt made it into the cartoon!

queequek 12-05-2002 02:17 AM

OK. I watched the Sorority Boys in DVD last night, and one of the extra credit scene was the interactive making of the movie. Well, just found out that the Delta Omicron Gamma house is actually a Greek house, the Alpha Delta Pi house. You can see the big letter on the front wall of the house!

Way to go ADiP! ;)

CanadianTeke 12-05-2002 02:55 AM

This is a pretty crazy story. One of our brothers moved into an apartment in Ottawa and was storing some of his stuff in a cluttered attic, when behind a bunch of stuff he found a 1987 composite from our Scorpion chapter at Cornell. No other Teke had lived in the house, when we contacted Scorpion chapter we were told that it had been stolen like 10 years earlier and that they had already replaced it. It hangs in our house to this day, and we still don't know who stole it.

DeltaGammaRocks 12-05-2002 04:33 AM

The girl who is dating one of the guys from Papa Roach is Andrea, she goes to Sac State.... Woo Hoo... the CSUS chapter of Delta Gamma is in the "Last Resort" video actually... Kinda cool lil fact:)
