Moderators?
I am new to the message boards, and I enjoy discussing the topics, but I wonder what are the moderators (and silent moderators) supposed to do? I looked on the site to find more info, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place. For example, I've seen a lot of negative posts, and some that may have not been intended to be negative but maybe worded wrong or whatever...do the moderators have a right to do something about them? Thanks for your input as I'm learning the ropes here! I'm glad we do have a forum to discuss issues relevant to all greeks!

Hey Panda- I think that the moderators try to let the conversation flow as freely as possible. There have been instances when people have been banned from the board. (Does anyone remember Fred Hatchett??!?) And there have also been instances when posts have been moved or locked down. Yes, there is some negative stuff, but there is good stuff too. Just ignore the posts that start grating on your nerves! Have fun http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Panda,
We are here to make sure that things run smoothly. Yes, there are negative comments, but if things start to REALLY get bad--like in the case with Fred Hatchett--we might start deleting posts and topics, or close them so that no more posts can be made to them. We try to let people speak their minds to their full extent, but if things start to get ugly, we step in. |
Thanks for responding - is the Fred guy the one I heard about that was posting all the church stuff and asking for people to post rituals? I heard a bunch about that!
I know we have the right to free speech, but I guess a bunch of this stuff (especially the race stuff) is offensive on both sides! I just don't think it belongs on an open forum to discuss greek issues, but maybe I'm seeing it wrong. We have whites, blacks, greens, blues, purples, and everyone else in my sorority. ZetaAce, you're right...I just won't read any of those! Anyway, thanks for your input! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Oh, I forgot to ask earlier...why are there silent moderators? I must sound really dumb, but I just want to be informed if I'm going to post on the site! Thanks! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

Panda-Yes Fred is the one who posted about greeks being evil and condemened to hell http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif
On another note, can you please post a picture of your sorority? I am very interested in seeing the green, blue, & purple people!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ZetaAce |
***ROTFL @ Pandabear & Zeta Ace.**** Panda & Zeta, you gave me a much needed laugh today and added a lightness that I think we all needed! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif.

PandaBear, I think ZetaAce & mgdzkm433 pretty much sum up what moderators do for the forums. To answer your second question, yes, moderators do have a right to take action against inappropriate messages - this may consist of editing, closing or deleting the message. You may also want to take a look at the rules page (if you did not already read it when you first registered) as it has a bit more info on what is/isn't appropriate & how these messages are handled. It is also important to note that the moderators are volunteers who, by the way, are a great help in keeping things running smoothly in these forums at greekchat.com
