So you replace one word with four? Never gonna happen.

Idiotic. They should have taken the money they wasted on this and used it to help deal with the homelessness problem.

What a bunch of morons.

I just don't understand the focus on Greek life. Taking 'man' out of a word is one thing, but eliminating words altogether?
Don't get me wrong. I think the entire thing is ludicrous, but what does referring to Greek orgs as fraternities and sororities have to do with this? Is it because one is associated with males and one with females? If that's the case, I declare that no one can say penis and vagina anymore! Only genitalia! Oh, the humanity. |
I worked in the Engineering - Construction business for 40 years as a female engineer, I ALWAYS insisted on using the word JOBHOURS instead of MANHOURS. You may think some of this is crazy, but I do not. Yes, somethings seem a bit over the top, but getting rid of gender stereotypes is not.

When I was a kid, people started using "person" instead of man (chairperson). I remember being out in front of the house Saturday and my father turned to my mother and asked in the person person has delivered the person yet as he was waiting for a specific letter or something.

Not only that, calling it a “Greek system residence” is completely inaccurate - a chapter is not the same thing as the building the members reside in. (The same concept as the nails-on-chalkboard “what house did you join?”) What about the Greek chapters that don’t have houses or designated living spaces? Are they not even worthy of reference?

I’m not sure how a city/municipality is allowed to tell a state agency (the university) what to do. Granted, it’s Berkley and the UC probably agrees with it, but it’s still a poor precedent to set.
|
The city council has always been a laughingstock and has very little power over the university. UC does what it wants.

I found the full list. Page 5-8: https://www.documentcloud.org/docume...ml#document/p8
I can even understand changing 'Policeman' to 'Police Officer' in a town's official documents, but changing 'manhole' or 'manpower'? Some words just contain the word 'man' and they're used in common language. |
Kind of the Typical inane norm of stupidity of being P C. P C ness has gone so far over board about sexual identity and look where we are today??
We are like a rudderless ship in a storm and WE THEM PEOPLE just sit back and take it? When University say Greeks must combine or be taken off of Campi. Take heed Universities, We The Alumni control the donations to and for you!:rolleyes: |
