Hurricane Harvey

It's bad, y'all.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/27/u...pgtype=article

I am currently hunkered down and okay - some water came in my back room (a study) but not too much. Currently in a break from the rain, but more is predicted.

It's the worse I've seen, and I've been watching storms for over 40 years.

FSUZeta 08-27-2017 02:35 PM

I am sorry SWTxBelle. Hope you stay safe.

My niece in Spring is now evacuating. I haven't heard from any of the other relatives.

Stay safe!

There are predictions of another 50 inches of rainfall in the areas.

One of my sorority sisters just started her PhD program at University of Houston and was wandering around in thigh-high water on the streets near campus. Seriously hoping there's no permanent damage.

On Facebook, people who live in the Hurricane Harvey affected areas can mark themselves as "safe".

The CBS affiliate got flooded out of their studio and switched to a live stream on YouTube:

They have just evacuated the Greek housing area at UH. I saw on our region FB page that the DG house now has water on the first level.

SWTXBelle 08-28-2017 01:08 AM

The water came up to my front door, but thank God stopped before getting in the house. We had to hurriedly get our cars inside the garage, but made it in time. Currently in a bit of a lull - my son's school is flooded, I'm sure mine is, too, but knock wood, we're okay.

SAMKD 08-28-2017 10:32 AM

Stay safe! I hope it doesn't get any worse for you.

I feel for y'all. Our home has flooded three times and it is not fun. If you're in an area which is flooding prone, that FEMA flood insurance is amazing.

Harvey's rains are just reaching us here in central Mississippi, and while just a whisper of what they were in Texas, are still pretty impressive.

SWTXBelle 08-29-2017 09:05 PM

Skies have cleared, but I now have to worry about the Addicks dam. Technically any spill should go east of me, but until we get the all clear, my two newest cars are on the 3rd floor roof of a school parking garage, and we are ready to bug out in my 11 year old minivan if given an evacuation order.

I feel like Houston in general is flooding prone. When I lived there a couple years ago, it would rain hard for an hour and I'd drive home from work, a relatively short drive (without touching a highway), and half of my drive would be through giant "puddles", some of them 6-12' deep. But even after experiencing that, the pictures are still incredible to see.

Hoping for the best for you, SWTXBelle!
