Is there a reason why some frat guys are so nice?

They say that frat guys are so horrible, but sometimes it really seems like they are actually nicer than most guys in general. Just friendly and helpful. And these are like the standard SigEps, Phi Theta Delta, not the academic fraternities (not like anything's wrong with the academic ones, but i'm just trying to be clear). So yeah, is nice-ness something they look for in recruitment, or do they tell them to be aware of how they act or something? Just curious.

And um, what kind of question is this? I think I might be a little insulted if someone asked, "So, sorority girls.. how'd they get to be so nice? Did someone have to teach them that stuff?"

Um. Some people are nice, and some people aren't. You'll find that in every fraternity, sorority, book club, football team, study group, school, city, country, continent, etc.

Does a fraternity and/or sorority teach values and traditions to people that might alter their frame of mind, or effect their actions.. yes. But does someone stand up in their new member meetings and say, "Now, all of you have to be nice."? Probably not.

And I can't imagine fraternities are recruiting people thinking, "Wow, now that guy is mean. We need to get him to join."

I believe that most Greeks are nice in general because (1) they have gone through recruitment to become greek and (2) they have an entire chapter and/or national organization to answer too if their behavior gets too out of line.
