Okay, so here is the thread for my rush experience. Yeah!!! I cannot believe that it is finally here. Well, technically rush starts tomorrow, but I didn't think that I would have time before orientation and first rounds to post anything. I leave early tomorrow morning to move into the dorms. Orientation begins at 2:00 that afternoon, and our first rounds begin right after that. But anyways, I need to start packing my car up!! I'm so excited (and nervous)!!!!!!! :D

For those curious about the wonderful sororities they have at UNA:
NPC
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Gamma Delta
Phi Mu
Zeta Tau Alpha
NPHC
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
I wasn't sure if Greek_Girl already mentioned the NPC ones in a previous post--but I was wondering what her options were so I decided to find out for myself!

Hey everyone!! I just got in not to long ago. It has been an incredibly long day/night. Ya'll should see my room, it is an absolute mess!!! Anyways, on to the good stuff. Tonight was so much fun. During my first party I was so incredibly nervous. I could tell though that the girl that was rushing me was even more nervous than I was. When I get quite I clam up, and evidently this girl did too. It made me feel better though. I was kind of surprised when I walked in the room and 30 girls are clapping and singing/chanting/screaming. It was really overwhelming.
Then my second party. My second party I relaxed a little bit. The girl who rushed me at that party was a girl that I had met last fall. She didn't remember me, but all I remembered about her was her face and her name. She was really sweet. She knew all of this stuff about me where as the people in the first party didn't. She was like I want to show you to everybody in the room. She said that they had heard a lot of good things about me. I was like ummm...how? But I just smiled and said thanks. And like everybody in the room knew something about my resume they actually asked me questions and seemed interested in my answers. It was awesome!!!
Then my third party. My third party was also fun. I knew some girls already in this sorority and as soon as I walked through the door she attacked me with a hug. She was like girl you have to meet everybody. I met all 40+ sisters in that room and I don't remember any names!!! It was crazy. They all knew who I was, but they knew who I was because of my friends. They asked me lots of questions too. Questions that I could start conversations with like the girls at the second party.
The final party was pretty fun too. The girls rotated between the rushees in this party. That made it kind of confusing. I don't remember any of my rushers. Where as the parties before I stuck with one girl and she showed me around.
Anyways, I had a lot of fun at each other the parties. And once my nerves calmed down after about the middle of the second party, I started having a lot of fun. I pick up my invites tomorrow at 12:00 and Philanthropy night is tomorrow night. I'll try to update tomorrow afternoon and tell ya'll who invited me back!! I'll talk to ya'll later....and thanks for listening to me!!!!
P.S. For those who haven't gone through rush yet-your cheeks really do hurt from all the smiling!!! I was like "oh, people are just saying that for effect." But oh no no.....it is so true!!!

Hey everyone!! Sorry I didn't have time to get on this afternoon and update on my invites, but I will now! I went to pick up my bids this morning, and I got invited back to all 4 parties!! I was pretty excited about that. Most people just get cut after the first round because of GPA. But still, it was good to know that I hadn't made a complete idiot out of myself in the first night.
Anyways, on to tonight. My first party tonight was with Zeta Tau Alpha. I had fun in there and met some really sweet girls. We made these little pillows for breast cancer patients. They were so cute. They were pink and white plaid on the back and the front was white with a pink ribbon. I could tell with one of my rushees just how much that foundation meant to her. It was touching. I met different girls than I did last night, and felt pretty at ease.
My second party was with Alpha Delta Pi. In that party we made these little courage puppets to give to children at the Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. I have done a lot of work with the Ronald McDonald house in Nashville during high school so it was really interesting to get to see how they helped the same organization. The conversations were good in this room to and I felt relatively relaxed.
My third party was Phi Mu. I have a few really close friends in Phi Mu and one of them rushed me last night and one rushed me tonight. But tonight we didn't catch up on summer vacations like last night, we really talked about the organization. The girls in that room were so friendly and sweet. It was so nice. We made these little felt lady bugs to give to kids at a hospital in Birmingham also. They were so cute.
My last party tonight was with Alpha Gamma Delta. I felt even more comfortable in there tonight than I did last night. I was full of nerves when I walked into the room and once I started talking to my rushee the nerves were completely gone. It was so unbelievable. I had such a good time. All of the girls were coming up to me and were like I'm so glad to see you back. And things like I don't know if you remember me from last night but it is wonderful to see you again. I had real conversations with these girls not necessarily the other typical party convos. It was so amazing. We made little giftbags of candy to promote Diabetes in their room.
All in all it was a completely wonderful night. I felt so at home in 2 of the sororities and I felt pretty good in the other 2. I pick up my invites tomorrow at 12:00 again. I can be invited to all 4 parties but I can only attend 3. So, we will see what happens tomorrow!!! I will definantly post tomorrow afternoon before I go to the parties tomorrow night to tell ya'll which sororities I got invites from and everything!! I can't wait until tomorrow!!! :)

Hey everybody! I woke up early this morning so I figured I would come on here and check things out. Liz and orchid-it's even more exciting than I thought it would be!! I wish ya'll the best of luck! Leslie-I'm not sure if it was sugar free candy or not. We just put 4 or 5 pieces of candy in this pretty paper and tied a bow around it and attached a card that had these facts about diabetes and symtoms (I know I messed up the spelling of that :) ) of diabetes. They are just going to hand the little bags out to let people know a little bit more about the disease. Of course, everything was a little crazy last night and wild....I could have misunderstood it all!!! :) I wouldn't put it past me!! haha... :D

I just got back from picking up my invites. ALl 4 sororities invited me back. I couldn't believe it!! Unforutunantly though, I had to drop one of the sororities. I regretfully declined the invitation to the Alpha Delta Pi party. It was a tough decision. ADTT is a great sorority on this campus. I just didn't feel in the loop, so to speak, in the party last night as I did in the other sororities. Anyways, I have to go to theme night parties tonight. I will update when I get in!! :D

Best of luck, GGirl! I wish you the BEST of luck if you are offered a bid to the house of your choce and decide to take it. No matter the Greek organization, the strongest asset is its members. I have recently joined a newly-created Alumnae Panhellenic Council in 3-4 surrounding counties.I think that there is a least 1 member of 20 of the 26 NPC organizations. The events that I have gone to has been extremely interesting to hear of our college-day experiences and how similar they are! :)

Sorry that I didn't have a chance to post last night. I got in pretty late and me and my roommmate watched a movie. Last night, I started feeling really stressed. I went to Alpha Gam's party first. Their skit was Grease, and it was so cute. I could tell just how much fun they had with each other. Then, I had a few good conversations, and I left with a smile on my face as usual. Those girls make me feel like they want me because of me. Then my next party was Phi Mu. Phi Mu was amazing last night. Their skit was so touching, and I talked to this girl I hadn't met before. She was such a sweet girl and we had a lot in common. She just kept saying just do what is best for you and no one else. I mean, she had me on the verge of tears. I left Phi Mu so confused!!! Then I went into Zeta. Zeta's skit was cute and the girls are really nice, but I don't really feel like I fit there. I don't know. Anyways, this is really short, I know. But I have to go run some errands. I'll post again after I pick up my invites for tonight. :)

Okay, I just got back from picking up my invites. I only got invited to Phi Mu and Alpha Delta Pi. Alpha Gam and Zeta dropped me. I mean, after last night, I was leaning more towards Phi Mu, but I would have liked to keep my options open. I didn't really feel anything in AD TT's room the 1st or 2nd night, so unless something connects tonight-I don't know what to do. But something in Phi Mu's room did click last night, but I'm terrified that they don't really want me. I know everything will work out the way it's supposed to, but now that I know I shouldn't be an Alpha Gam, I really feel like my heart is leading me towards Phi Mu. Now, I'm terrified, like I said before, that they really don't want me. Oh, me, I can feel the tears ready to flow. Anyways, I need to go.I have to start getting ready for tonight! Thanks for listening.

Sweetie, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I'm very sorry about Alpha Gam :( , but I suppose it wasn't meant to be. If Phi Mu invited you to their preference, remember that it means they're very interested in you! Go have a wonderful time. I have a sneaking suspicion that things will work out for you. ;)

I agree with greeklawgirl, if you were invited to pref, they must already love you. Sororities don't just invite back girls to pref and then drop them. Just stay calm and look around. One thing a lot of people say to do is to look around at the other rushees that are there, since those people will likely be the new member class for that sorority :) Kinda exciting how it all comes together huh? I am sure that you will soon have a house full of new sisters and that you will have the time of your life!

I actually told my mom about what the young ladies are going through, because I have no reference point and this is so exciting! Now, when I'm on campus, I want to ask when Rush is, so I can see what I can see as an old lady outsider.
A sorority member at UMSL tried to help me find a building, and I was just beaming at her, like "you are SO cute!" Now that I know what to look for, I'm seeing tee shirts and hearing about the "parties" at UMSL coming up. They started on the 26th.

Okay so I went to both preference parties last night. My very first preference party was Phi Mu. It was so amazing. It was such a beautiful ceremony and I spent much of it in tears. The person that preffed me last night was the same one that rushed me the night before last. She was like I just fell in love with you last night, and I had to work on you again. I had told her the night before that I was confused, and she was like I don't know if you are confused still or not-but there is nothing that I want more than you running to us on bid day. I told her that I wasn't confused anymore and that it wasn't as hard of a decision and I started to cry and so did she. So after a series of songs, and making a wish by throwing a carnation into a fountain, we had to leave.I hugged my pref girl again and then after I made my wish she hugged me again. Then I hugged 2 of my friends in that sorority, and I hugged my pref girl 2 more times.....I really didn't want to leave.
Then I went to the ADPi party. The person who preffed me was telling me that by just being at the pref party I should realize that ADPi really wants me and all of this stuff. The main thing I realized in their party is that I do want to be a part of sisterhood however it comes around.
I signed my bid card putting Phi Mu first and Alpha Delta Pi second. Who knows how everything will turn out?! But I will know by 5:00 tonight, so wish me luck everyone!

I know I'm bumping up an old thread, but reading this bugged me. At my school, saying stuff like that is considered "dirty rushing" and can get you a rush infraction. We're not even allowed to say things like "see you tomorrow!" after the first day, when pretty much everyone is invited back (except for grade cuts).
I think it's even worse if a sorority says they want you at prefs, and then you don't get a bid. I know there's a group on my campus that tells girls at prefs that they will get bids to get everyone to put them first, and then a lot of girls dont get bids from them. I guess this is what happened with Greek_Girl..?
What is the policy at your school?
DeltaBetaBaby
01-23-2005, 10:49 PM
Depends on campus culture, on this one. At my alma mater, you could say whatever you want, as long as you speak for yourself, not your chapter. You can speak for your chapter as long as you don't make any references to future parties/bids.
Ex. "I want you to be my pledge kid"--OKAY
Ex. "Everyone is really happy you are here tonight"--OKAY
Ex. "Everyone is really hoping to see you tomorrow"--BAD
shadokat
01-24-2005, 01:23 PM
I don't think any of those things would be bad for us DeltaBaby. We are obviously discouraged from saying "You're getting a bid from us." Or my favorite, "Don't sign your bid card, and then COB us, because you're getting a bid." But to say, I hope we see you tomorrow doesn't mean you want them in your chapter. You could mean you just hope they get a bid :) See how we can play on words!!

Whether or not that was dirty rushing depends on the campus and the local Panhellenic. Under the rules when I rushed, that was more than kosher. At the same school, the sorority who said or asked the same things I was asked would be fined to kingdom come.
I think it's best to let a four year old rush situation drop.
