Hello All- So, I know it is a ways away but I have decided that once we get new members through recruitment & they complete their New Member Meetings I want to give each of them a really meaningful friendship or sorority quote in a beautiful frame. Also, I would like to start adding friendship or sorority quotes to our meeting agendas to remind our current members how important our sisterhood is. I would greatly appreciate if you could share with me some of your favorite quotes that you feel would fit perfectly with my plans! Thanks So Much!

I don't have a specific quote for you, but one idea might be to use key lines or phrases from significant songs of your GLO. This can help reinforce your ideals or simply help solidify the common bond that ties you all together.

"For there is no friend like a sister
In calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
To lift one if one totters down,
To strengthen whilst one stands."
~ Christian Rossetti

This is one of my favorites.

The back of one of our pledge class t-shirts, they decided to put:

"Friendship lasts forever when sisters come together"

We have a tradition in my SAI family that for initiation one of the gifts is a pillow with letters on it. I usually trace them and them puff paint them. On the back I put a quote in a sharpie marker about sisterhood. I get all of my quotes from quotegarden.com

I found one somewhere on here that I am going to reccommend for this year's Greek Week theme...

"These letters don't make me better than you, these letters make me better than I used to be."

Also, you could adapt:

“To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them. (http://thinkexist.com/quotation/to-become-truly-great-one-has-to-stand-with/348640.html)”

You cannot contribute anything to the ideal condition of mind and heart known as Brotherhood, however much you preach, posture, or agree, unless you live it. ~Faith Baldwin

The chapter I advise has this on their website homepage:

"A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life." -- Isadora James

We have this painted in our foyer along with a rose..its so pretty :)

"From the outside looking in, you can never understand it; From the inside looking out, you can never explain it."

I remember that was on the backs of our guys' shirts when I went through formal rush... I really like that quote actually...

Do you mean Christina?

There are a lot of cutesy books at just about any bookstore on sisters and friendship that you can steal quotes from without ever buying the book. People do this in my bookstore all the time with quote books, inspirational books, and even the Hallmark cards  Go poke around for an hour and you'll find a load of good quotes!

"In thee my soul shall own combined the sister and the friend."
- Catherine Killigrew

"Sisters don't need words. They have perfected a language of snarls and smiles and frowns and winks - expressions of shocked surprise and incredulity and disbelief. Sniffs and snorts and gasps and sighs - that can undermine any tale you're telling."
- Pam Brown

“There's an old proverb that says you can't choose your family. You take what the fates hand you. And like them or not, love them or not, understand them or not, you cope. Then there's the school of thought that says the family you're born into is simply a starting point. They feed you, and clothe you, and take care of you, until you're ready to go out into the world and find your tribe.”
- Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy

After just having a difficult conversation with a member and with Recruitment right around the corner, one of the most informative quotes is: Your failure to plan ahead does not consitute an emergency on my part.

"You should never look down on a Brother except to pick him up."

A Brother/Sister is there when all others fail.

That quote has served me well over the years. I just wish I did not feel I had to use it as often as I have.

I can assure you that that quote was around LONG before Sorority Life on MTV.
