As with any story, seems to be several sides to this one:
A Long Island college freshman says she has been hounded by vengeful sorority girls who verbally and physically attacked her and threatened to "slit her throat" when she decided she didn't want to join their group.
Courtney Holt, 19, of West Roxbury, Mass., a freshman at Hofstra University in Hempstead, yesterday packed her bags to leave because she and her mom fear for her safety.
Phi Epsilon "isn't a sorority; it's a cult," Holt said. ........

Law & Order will surely pick this up as an idea for an episode.

No, just that there is a lot of weird stuff that happens there that doesn't happen elsewhere.
Its a local, no surprise.
Quit local bashing. It's uber lame.

You know they will. They will have this episode out before the season finale, lol.

She also did not look forward to the Phi Ep initiation ritual, which, she said, includes being branded in the groin area with a hot fork.
Eh.....
Finally, Holt said: "I don't like you guys. I don't like your sorority." She said one member told her, "You're going to have to transfer."
LOL....

it IS Hofstra, im so not surprised. not that its right, but the impression i get is that the greeks there haze folks up just because (have older sorors/family/friends who went there). i mean, Hempstead is barely an hour outside of the city... go get a hobby. and not the "branding with a fork" kind.

Why don't you piss off? Jesus Loves you but not your comments!
Not All Locals are in the wrong, but to many are!
Get it?
Many at times do not make it and make it a personel thing when they should not have been there in the first place! It doesn't make a difference if it is a Local or a National!

As an alum of Hofstra, I get to speak on this. The locals at Hofstra have always gotten away with stuff that nationals would never dream of. The locals have been around since 1930s, some affiiliated with NPC groups and kept their "traditions" and some even got caught/shut down for a while. I was a chapter founder and 1/2 my group were women who had depledged the locals and felt hazing was not what they were about.
As for this story, none of us will ever know. Is Phi Ep's pledge program the hardest at Hofstra? Yes, probably. My chapter competes directly in recruitment with Phi Ep. Women often go to both prefs. Is Phi Ep strong and puts out many greek leaders, yes. Do they make women chant in the cafeteria, keep them up all night and treat them like less than equals then welcome them with open arms after Hell Night? Probably.
Do they brand? Sounds like a myth but you never know.
The story will play out, the girl will likely transfer somewhere where this will eventually go away. Nothing is going to change at Hofstra with these locals.
Those alums give $$ to the university.
