I just wanted to know some movies that could be considered good college movies. Besides the really obvious like 'Animal House'
Any movie with sororities, and fraternities
a good movie I know of is 'Glory Daze'
if you've not seen that, you should...
I was just wondering if there are any other movies like that you guys may know...someone once mentioned a animal-house style sorority movie that sounded interesting...
any mentionables??

one of my favorite movies that is in a college setting is "The Skulls." it is more about a secret society than a fraternity, but it's a good movie.

What about Road Trip? the fraternity house scenes were one of the funniest in that movie! Little Sister with Alyssa Milano is also a good movie w/ Greek life involved (its real old though).
I can't think of other real good college movies right now..the other ones that come to mind are "chick flick" ones like Loser and Boys and Girls and I don't think you'll like those http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
I'll go to work today (blockbuster)and I'll keep this thread in mind...I'll go browsing and post again.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a shortage of really GOOD college movies. I mean there are tons of great high school movies that manage to be sweet, funny, poignant coming of age stories. For example all of the John Hughes movies. However, college movies tend to be about drunken debauchery and little else. Someone needs to make a really good movie about the growing process we go through in college. Aren't there some future screenwriters and actors around here....

All the good college movies I can think of, that aren't already listed, are more of sports movies such as "Rudy" or "Love And Basketball"

Well, this movie is so bad it's hysterical to watch. It's called "The Brotherhood" and it's about vampire fraternity members. Plug the tape in, kick back and laugh at all the sterotypes and innacuracies
I also have heard there's a horror film out called "Rush Week" but I havent seen it.
If you do want a good college film, there's an old John Cusack film "The Sure Thing". Check it out

There's a Spike Lee movie about black college life, mostly sororities and fraternities. Called "School Daze" or something similar. One of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. National Lampoon did a great job with A-House. It's going to take a Spike Lee or somethimng that talented to make a great movie about Greeks. Isn't Steven Speilberg in a fraternity? (Theta Chi, TKE?)

When Pike mentioned Spike Lee, I remembered an excellent college movie called Higher Learning, which I think was done by John Singleton.

What's the name of that movie with Brendon Frazier...He was Jewish and tried to hide it but the students found out?
That would be School Ties.
I always thought Real Genius was a good college type movie im sure any engineering student would enjoy it even with all the technical inaccuracies with the laser and anyone else im sure would enjoy some of the over the top pranks in the movie.

A really good college movie is "A Reason to Believe." I think it came out in 95. My chapter uses it in new member education. Summary from amazon.com:
"A popular girl on campus, Charlotte, attends a fraternity party while her boyfriend Wesley is out of town. When she realizes she has become too drunk, she leaves the party. But Jim, who she danced with at the party soon joins her and she is forced into a sexual encounter. Feeling ashamed and self-blame, it is difficult for her to find the courage to speak out. When she does, many of her friends do not believe her. Meanwhile, Jim honestly does not think what happened that night was rape. But as members of his own fraternity and campus feminist groups begin to unpiece the grey areas, the ensuing experience challenges the trust and friendship of college students who thought they would be friends forever."
It is probably the most realistic of all the college fraternity/sorority movies out there. The "initiated brothers" scene where the fraternity members are discussing what to do with the accused member is VERY realistic, and could have been taken from any of our chapters closed meetings. The soundtrack is great. There are the few cliche scenes, but this flick comes closest to reality.

I know it perpetuates the horrible Greek life stereotype, blah blah blah...but I really liked the cheesy TV movie "Dying to Belong." It's about sorority stuff and has Six from Blossom & Hillary Swank in it.
And I'm so happy that there are other people in the world who have seen "The Brotherhood." All of this time, I have been ashamed...hehehe

"St. Elmo's Fire" is a good college-ish movie, but it's revolves more around a group of friends and how they've changed 2 or so yrs. after college. I know it has Emilio Estevez, Demi Moore, Rob Lowe(I think) and Andie McDowell in it, I believe.

Speaking of trashy movies with Six from Blossom in them.... she's also in my personal favorite made for TV movie, "She Cried No," where Zack Morris from Saved By the Bell as a cocky "Kappa Pi" frat boy rapes an innocent freshman as played by DJ from Full House.
You'll never see so many cliches in one place... and with such an all star cast, how can you resist????

What about the perpetually cheesy movie starring Shannon Doherty and Jeremy( or James, maybe?) London (the one from Party of 5) that they often show on VH1's Movies That Rock? She's a sorority girl who's in a band with her boyfriend, and one of her sisters tries to steal her identity and succeeds at stealing Jeremy away from her. She makes Shannon look like the psycho-b!tch, and there are several scenes in their sorority house, and even a candlelight. It's so hilarious, my little and I enjoy watching it any afternoon it comes on. Then we joke around about stealing each others guys and identities.

I HAVE SEEN THAT! but i think it was on lifetime or something. It's called 'My Best Friend' or something like that. Gosh I thought I was the only one that had seen that.
K so we have this thing called "Saferides" on our campus. A fraternity and sorority pair up and basically cart drunk people home all night. So to entertain us, the student government has provided us with the following movies that have all been dubbed "Saferides" movies.
-Can't Hardly Wait
-Varsity Blues
-Scream 2
-Wedding Singer
-Dead Man on Campus
-Pulp Fiction
I forgot about "With Honors." I liked the soundtrack. Haven't seen the movie tho. LOVE Legally Blond. What about American Pie 2?

I love Legally Blonde and Road Trip are some of my favorite 'college' movies. I like the part in Road Trip where they go to the fraternity and Kyle is rapping to Run DMC. I also thought 40 Days/40 Nights was pretty funny. I also really liked Can't Hardly Wait and some of those other end-of-high-school-coming-of-age movies.
One movie that is a horrible depiction of college is called "New Best Friend" or something. My sister rented it at Blockbuster and I watched it. It was supposed to be about some girl who joins a sorority and ends up in a coma because they give her bad coke or something. However, in the movie, there isn't really any indication that she joined a sorority, but it's a really poor depiction of college life, and does nothing to help the stereotypes.
