Anyway, I know I'm not the only one out there to admit I'm a greekchat-aholic! I check this thing WAY too often but I don't care! It's too much fun! So if you're addicted, c'mon and introduce yourself to the group.

Hi, I'm ZChi4Life, and I'm addicted to Greekchat.com http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hi, My name is prospectiverushee and I'm a greekchat-aholic. I thought I had thinngs under control. I'd post about once a day and would ocassionally drop by a see what was going on. I even managed to go a couple of days without checking out the boards at all. (pauses to wipe the tears) But once I made senior member, well things just started getting out of control. I'm checking the boards 3 and 4 times a day, staying on the board hours at a time. It's gotten so bad that I check Greekchat before I check my email. My friends and family don't know about my addiction cause I've managed to keep this site hidden from them. But my boss is starting to suspect something. Everyday, when I take my break I go straight to the internet(I work in a library) and got straight to this site. And because I get so caught up in the daily post I lost track of time causing me to get back to work late.

I don't know what to do anyone.... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My name is Serenity, and I'm a GreekChat addict. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

I am returning to work in less than two weeks. I was trying to quit cold turkey. But I have now decided to taper off. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I don't have "easy" access to the internet at work. So, I will have to limit myself to once a day (when I come home from work). With the busy load I have during the school year, I will be lucky to get on once a day.

Think of me often.... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think once school starts I'll probably won't be on as much...Yeah RIGHT! Who am I kidding, I'm an email-aholic so I know I'll be on this too! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think I can topp all of you.. I don't have a computer at home, because I just use the one at work constantly. Well now thta I have qiut my job (I love that sentence, just let me say it one more time....Now that I have qiut my job) Ok but back to the point

I have went out and bought a computer (with my unemployed ass http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) so that I can still be on here reguraly.

I even tried to justify it, by saying that since I am a moderator, it is my job to stay on here as much as possible

I think I need REAL help

Wow, I think this is serious. We are in a bad way here. I think this affliction affects only women. Why is that?

I, too, go to public computer rooms here and pay (not much, but still) by the hour to use the computer, make my sorority's homepage (I also must write html by hand), occasionally chat, but most importantly, check m email and read this site.

If I've said something humorous, I find myself hoping throughout the day that someone has noticed. If I've said something possible offensive, I prepare myself with responses in case anyone responds to my posts in anger. I feel all the emotions of life here: happiness, anger, sadness.

How can I live without greek chat? I'm afraid if I stop now, I'll go through withdrawl symptoms. Maybe my index finger will keep twitching, wanting to "click" on various links . . .

I know that's a lot right?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Well the thing is that I don't always reply to everything. But I'm ALWAYS on here just looking around and reading stuff. That's the thing. I just get so curious to what other people are saying or how others respond to other people. So I know that I don't respond a lot, (I just joined too) but I'm ALWAYS on here reading. So I'm an addict nonetheless. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

i first came on to get an answer to ONE question. just one. i don't even remember what that question WAS> since that time, i've been enveloped in conversations about barbie, locs, rush, pledges and things like the man show. *go juggies!*

i have made many internet friends throughout my tenure here and i'm sure it will only get worse *or better??* as i enter into my senior year. people like heatherhm1981, preppie, sexy mocha, blu_theatrics and others have been my only contact with the outside world on those rainy days off. i only hope that one day i will recover...

Help.

Please someone help me.

I am a greek-chatholic.

I don't post often, but am always here, lurking. I am a graphic artist, so I have an excuse to always be at my computer "working". It shouldn't take three weeks to design a billboard, should it? My boss once threatened to take away my internet. I threatened to quit. I won. I still have the internet. Thank god they don't monitor my web usage here. I'd be fired for sure.

Last week, when Greek Chat was down for the day... I started to get the shakes but then went to Followers and found other greek chatters going thru the same thing! The only problem is the other site is so hard to follow so it did not satisfy my craving! I guess I am addicted too!

Hello,

I'm Jazbri and I too am a GC-aholic. What's more pathetic is that I am not Greek, nor will I ever reach those heights; yet- I find all this stuff fascinating.

I too submit posts and wait in trepidation to be slammed on what I post. I desperately wait for someone to find a shared experience in my reply or if I am really lucky-- I get a LMAO!!!

Pathetic. I'm down to three times a day... My only prayer is that the site doesn't go down again for a day. Who in the hell would I talk to?

Hi, my name is Midwestdiva, and I too am a Greekchataholic. At first it was something I checked once in a while, reading silently. Then one day, I decided to register. My life has changed drastically since that day. I don't have a computer at home, so I log on at work and on my days off I go over to my relatives homes that have computers, or even to the library. On the average day, I will check in at least 5-7 times, going from forum to forum, then to check my email. I even find myself discussing some of the threads here with my greek friends in the real world. They're getting to the point where they ask me if there were any interesting discussions here. I also get disappointed when I check GC on the weekends and there aren't many new posts to read through. As if people have better things to do on the weekend than come to Greekchat. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Okay, I only discovered this site a few days ago and am already an addict! I work at a pretty relaxed place and I spend a lot of time on the internet. Today, this is alreayd about my 5th or 6th time checking out different boards! But, it's so much fun to connect with people! However, I don't have cable modem at home, so luckily, I only use my valuable work time to check out the site.

How addicted am I???? I am dreaming about you people!!!!

I have really (REALLY) intense and long drawn out detailed dreams -- the kind where you wake up exhausted -- well here's my greekchat nightmare --- I don't have any clue where this all came from....

Well, we were all living in this one section of town (a big city somewhere) in like our own community apartments or whatever. Well we realized that we had a stalker lurking after us on GC, and we were trying to rat him out. So we devised this big plan, and we decided we'd have to let him come to us so we could turn him over to the cops. Well somehow he figured it out, and he kidnapped AKA2D and took off with her, but none of us knew it. So when ZetaAce realized what had happened, she called an emergency meeting so we could go get her back. We all had certain places we were supposed to go hang out and search for her - well I ended up at the mall (surprise surprise) and all this stuff kept happening (like I couldn't get off the 2nd floor) and even though I could see the bad guy on the floors above and below me, I couldnt't get off the 2nd floor. Kevin you were there with me trying to figure out how to get up there, and Carnation, you were checking the pet stores out and buying dog food http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Anyway -- in the end, we all worked together and AKA2D was returned safely -- its so funny because you were all (the regulars that is) there -- I just wish I could remember how I pictured you all in the dream. Why do I feel like Dorothy at the end of the Wizard of Oz when she was trying to tell everyone they were in her dream http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Weird huh! Hi. I'm Amy and I too am a greek chat a holic. Thing is, my Greek days are 10 (?!) years behind me... I signed on last week when I realized my 10 year college reunion was coming up and got all nostalgic (and a bit freaked out, how is it possible that I am that OLD? ha ha)... and now, well...

Me, couch, laptop, ordering take out, cause I spent all weekend reading everything on these boards.

Sad. sad. sad.

That's the day I registered. But by then I was already addicted. I lurked for months before I posted! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

I've managed to taper off to a few times a day. All after I get home from work! Now that I have DSL, I know it'll get worse. But thank goodness we have good firewalls at work. I would've been fired a long time ago if I had access to this. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

Some of you have been on here longer than I have. Some of you, I remember when you first came. Others have come and gone. What happened to them? Where is Heather? Where is our UCLA Theta Chi? Who are these people that have the willpower to post once and never return!?!? Don't they know I'm dying of curiosity about them!? How'd their rush turn out? How did they handle their issues w/ their chapter? Why do they tease me so? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

There's so many regulars on here I think of it not just as a group of Greeks. But as a FRATERNITY OF GREEKS. Does that sound just too cheesy? We jump all over eachother and to eachother's defense; just like brothers and sisters do! We are fam-il-ly!

If it weren't for this site, I'd have very little reason to get on the internet. I can't not come here. I can't skip over it. There's too many conversations to skip!

How many other sites are there where you can discuss your favorite makeup and race relations in America in just one stop!?!? I can't think of one!

I love greekchat. I want to marry greekchat. I want to have 10,000 of its babies!!! LOL

Lord, help me!

SoCalGirl,
Just to make you feel better (even though i know the answer is in a thread somewhere else) to edit your own post, just click on the little piece of paper with a pen icon on top of your message as it appears in the thread. you'll have the option or edit or delete your post.
i haven't been able to master the bold thing either. i gave up trying http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif .

Go into that post and make your corrections. Then click "Submit Now". If you want to delete the whole post, there is a box at the very top (before the post) that says "Delete? To delete this post, check this box."

To bold:
Before the sentence/word you wish to bold, type [ and the letter b and then ] to close (if I actually type it out - you won't be able to see it because it will look like this! Then when you are done with the part you want to bold, type [ then / and then the letter b again and then close with ]

To italicize:
Same as bold except change the b to i inside of the [] and remember to put /i inside the [] to stop it.

To quote someone without using cut and paste, you must click on the last icon above the post that will say "Reply with quote" (it looks like a piece of paper with a red arrow facing right on the side of it) -- if its only one or two things you want to quote, then when you get into the message, go up into the person you are quoting's message, and delete what is not relevent (this way we don't all have to see the whole post again -- especially if its really long!)

Hope this helps some -- email me if you want more info! Always happy to help!

I think that I just have an addictive personality!

I used to be addicted to wedding discussion board. But then I decided I needed to stop logging on to it so often. Oops! Then I found GC. I was just going to have a few of my questions answered, but...

The worst thing is that my fiance is not a computer person whatsoever. If he sends an email, which is once every few months or so, I have to set it all up for him. So he totally does not understand why I'm on here all the time. I usually try to hide how much I post and read stuff! (Now that's the sign of a true addict!!!)

Sigh...we're moving into our new place together and getting married in a month, so I'll probably have to quit coming then. I just can't be a closest GC-aholic when we're living together!

He gets this look when I try to tell him about stuff that goes on here... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

When you call up the phone company to determine if the apartment you're about to move to has a phone jack in the loft (where the PC will be located).

The phone company, (while I'm on the other line) then calls the current resident to find out the information...AND of course, the tenant says, NO, there isn't a jack up there. So I have to give the phone company all this money to get a phone jack installed so I don't miss anything. I'm NOT unplugging this thing, until the OTHER apartment is READY! LOL

True story, this happened today. Am I an addict or what?

I am soooooooo much of a GC-aholic. These are my signs.

1. Back in February after I had my wisdom teeth pulled and returned to work, there was this filter system that made it forbidden to access GC http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif so I would get up early in the morning and reply to topics before I went to work and I would have Ideal08 & 12dn94dst copy and paste topics to my e-mail inbox http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. This was AFTER me e-mailing the filter system to tell them this was a positive message board where I exchanged educational ideas with others http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif. This was also after I tried EVERYTHING to get it to work, like going back in History. I was soooooo http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif when the filter company went BANKRUPT!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

2. When we discuss certain topics on GC and they come up with my non cyber buddies, I will say oh my friend McCoyRed or AKA2d said "XYZ" and they will say and where do you know them from and when I reply Greekchat, they think I am insane http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif

3. I copy certain FIRECRACKER topics from here to a listserve I am on to see what others think.

4. I have bookmarked all of my favorite GC spots.

5. I too frequently check back to see if people have replied to my comments and QUOTED them http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif or if I am having a cyber difference of opinion I check back more often.

6. There are always 2 windows open, GC and other http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

7. When I post a topic, I check the box that e-mails me everytime someone replies to my topic. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

8. Finally, I am a GC-aholic, last night Ideal08 and I were at a stepshow and we kept saying we wish GCers were here so we could talk about what we saw @ the step show the next day on GC.

There are probably more but these are the ELITE EIGHT http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

OK..so I am at work right now. I work for an internet company as my summer job. And I think that my co-workers and boss think I am addicted to porn or something. Haha. I have access to the internet all day and I always keep this window behind the pages I edit. But whenever someone walks by, I click back to the pages I am editing so they don't catch me not working. It's so bad. Haha. Oh man. I swore I was never an "internet dork." I would never surf web pages or anything. Well, I was on exec for my sorority and was searching the internet for some Pi Phi info for meeting and I stumbled upon this site. I would check the boards every day, but never post. Then someone mentioned Pi Phi in a negative way, and I couldn't hold back. That was it, though, I said. I just had to defend myself and I would never go back to the board. Wrong. I am addicted. And in the next few weeks I may have to explain myself to my boss and explain that I am addicted to greekchat.com. Haha

Looking at my join date and post #s already, yes, I think I need to admit I have a problem... I just read this whole thread (another indicator of my problem) and have a similar story to the poster who said she came on just to ask one question, but then got hooked.

I had one question about a song a couple of sisters and I have always debated about and could never find, my friend's daughter (in another glo) told her about this site so I volunteered to look it up and ask the question. And what do you know, I got the answer (I think from OTW, in fact :)) none of us had ever been able to find in no time!

It was in September, must have been at peak rush season, because I remember reading terms I'd never heard before like "helicopter mom" and had no idea at the time what a "troll" or "sockpuppet" was or why on earth anyone would be one. And I distinctly remember the thread was started or was going on that ended up with everyone posting pictures of Barbies and Care Bears "composites" and on their "Bid Days" (started by cuteASAbug, I think?), and that's what hooked me. That was the funniest thing I'd ever read and I instantly liked ("virtually") many of the posters in that thread.

And, I guess it spiraled out of control from there, here I am already over 1,000 posts. I never really understood the stories about people getting "addicted to the internet." Noooooow I think I understand. :)

My work blocks proxy servers too and if you find one that they didn't filter out, and you are caught using it to bypass Websense, you can be fired. Happened to a really nice guy in our department who was using it to get to MySpace.

I'm lucky - we have no firewalls blocking sites where I work. Part of my job actually includes perusing other Web sites (I'm the News Editor for a national organization).

During the day, I open three Internet windows: my work's home page, Google and Yahoo. In the Google window, I open two tabs: Greekchat and eBay.

I guess you could say I'm a tad addicted.

When your cat shares GC addiction. Now, when I'm on the sofa, she plants herself partly on my lap and the rest of her on the edge of the laptop. As I scroll and read, she follows along most of the time. When I tried to move her off my lap, so I could shut the laptop down for the night, she bit me. I guess she had posts to read.
