Did you get that result after directly clicking on the link? It looks like you copied and pasted the link into either a search engine or a search toolbar.

John:

I placed an order JUST YESTERDAY (02/18/08) at Greekgear-some items for my daughter and one of her sisters. If you think there is any way that we can get the order "switched over" so GC can receive some funds, I'll be glad to do whatever is necessary. Shoot me an email or PM.

While I was having problems viewing the links last night, the links work fine today for me.

Perhaps the greekgear website was running slow last night or something? (Which would explain why some people could view them and others couldn't). Who knows. It's all good now.

I feel like putting in a GreekChat code at checkout might be a little....better? I may not always remember to come to this particular thread when I place a para order.

I usually only place orders at sororityspecialties or joetoga; it'd be nice to see GC pair up with them.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback regarding the links. I'm still digging into the issue and will hopefully soon have the link trouble sorted out or will have the links replaced with other links which work correctly for all of us.

Looks like I was a day late and a dollar short ;). I think it's best just to leave your order as-is and not try to switch the order to be credited under GC. Although I do appreciate the thought! :) Maybe you could purchase from Greekgear via GreekChat links for any future orders.

I feel like putting in a GreekChat code at checkout might be a little....better? I may not always remember to come to this particular thread when I place a para order.

That sounds like a very good idea to have as a secondary option. It would also be a good alternative for anyone who has problems with the affiliate links. I'll check into this.

John, I wonder why all of a sudden this seems to be so important?

As I remember before I was DEMODED that there were Ads on G C and there were so many Members who were Livid about them.

Did I not tell you if it would help pay for the Site, I was fine with it?:)

You need to do what You Need to do to make $$$$!

The ads were removed YEARS ago, long before you were 'demoded'. The ads have NOTHING to do with you being 'demoded'.

Many members were livid about them not just because they were an eyesore, but it advertised a Greek clothing company that had a reputation for being high cost and mediocre quality.

No one found the ads offensive. They found them annoying and an eyesore. There's a difference.

I agree. I frequent several other message boards and depending where they're placed, I don't even really notice them anymore (especially if they're wayyy at the bottom).

Joetoga has a little problem at the moment:
"Fraternities File for Infringement

SAN DIEGO, CA – More than 30 national and international Greek-letter organizations today filed a joint lawsuit in Southern Florida Federal Court against Greek product manufacturers and marketers Paddle Tramps Mfg. Co, The Brown Bag, joeToga, Taymark, Inc., Tervis Tumbler Company and Rah Rah Company, on charges of trademark infringement and both federal- and common-law unfair competition. The lawsuit was filed as a result of continued, unauthorized use of the Greek organizations’ protected trademarks by the six defendants. Stites & Harbison’s intellectual property group in Louisville, Kentucky, has been retained as legal counsel by the Greek organizations."

“Recent trademark law clearly establishes Greek organizations’ rights to protect their marks and ensure that products and services that contain their insignia meet fundamental quality standards,” said Dan Shaver, president of Affinity Marketing Consultants, Inc. “We are hopeful that other unlicensed manufacturers, including screen printers and embroiderers, will seize the opportunity to become licensed instead of waiting until legal action becomes necessary.”

To date, more than 60 national and international Greek-letter organizations, representing more than 5.5 million households, proactively manage comprehensive licensing programs that grant companies approval to use their trademarks on high-quality and appropriate products and services. John, I wonder why all of a sudden this seems to be so important?

Are you asking in relation to GC generating some revenues? In regards to that, it's important if GC is ever going to grow beyond what it is. I have many pages of ideas and plans for future GC development, but none of it is really possible unless I can devote the time and resources to make it happen. I explain more about this in the Help Support GC thread (http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=93931).

As I remember before I was DEMODED that there were Ads on G C and there were so many Members who were Livid about them.

I don't recall those ads being all that much of a problem. Maybe they were, but not enough for any significant level of complaints to be sent in to me. If I'm remembering correctly, they were on GC for 6 months back in 2003.

Did I not tell you if it would help pay for the Site, I was fine with it?:)

You need to do what You Need to do to make $$$$!

Yes, I do believe you were one of the GCers who offered to help out with the costs of running GC. I answered this a bit more in depth in a reply (http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showpost.php?p=1603983&postcount=34) to the Suggestions (http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=93934) thread. Basically, I did not feel as though accepting "donations" was the right way to fund GC. I explain further in my reply to that thread.

Just so everyone can get an idea of how much it costs just to be able to use vBulletin: https://www.vbulletin.com/order/

You're right with the software licensing, but all that is pretty much a drop in the bucket in relation to the costs of running a forum like GC.
