Dear Fellow GreekChatters,
GreekChat needs your help. I feel that I've lost my focus with regards to my web publishing business and that I'm far too spread out, business wise and financially. I do not have the time nor the available resources to further develop GreekChat in very meaningful ways.
I am doing everything that I can in order to get things back on track and turn the focus of my business towards GreekChat. For the past month I have been working on selling various business assets (websites, domain names, etc) so that I may regroup my resources and make more time as well as funds available for new GC development.
For years I have considered GC a "diamond in the rough" among the websites that I publish. My other business obligations and strained resources have prevented me so many times from taking this diamond in the rough and polishing it up very nicely.
I sincerely would like to change all of that.
GreekChat is a GIANT among my other web publications, easily dwarfing the combined web traffic of the others. I've been watching the web stats very closely for the past 5 months or so. Each of those months GC has had more than 100,000 unique visitors. Last month was very close to 170,000. Those are unique visitors, not counting all the many people who visit several times per day. When counting overall visits, the number is probably near 500,000 monthly (just a guess). At some point I will purchase web stats software from Google in order to confirm that last number.
GreekChat is in its 10th year of operation. GC originally launched around July 1998 as a real-time chat system. Some of you may remember the chat system still being on GC a few years ago. GC changed into a forum community in August 1999. During all that time GC has been primarily subsidized via other areas of my business. In some sense it probably could be seen as an expensive hobby for me.
I believe the GreekChat community definitely deserves the opportunity to flourish as an independent self-sustaining site and is well primed for doing so.
Before I completely turn the focus of my business towards GreekChat I need to know that enough support exists within the GC community for that to happen.
What I am asking of all GreekChatters is fairly simple. Please take a look around the threads in this "Help Support GreekChat" forum to see if anything is of interest to you. Any purchases you make will earn GreekChat a commission on the referral.
There are many different types of products and companies online which offer commissions to websites for referring customers. I would prefer not to ask anyone to purchase things they do not need or want in order to help support GreekChat. Over time I will add a variety of different ways so that everyone might be able to help support GC without causing any unnecessary burden. Preferably, many GreekChatters will simply purchase items that they regularly purchase anyhow - but in this way which also helps to benefit GC, even if only a small amount.
I very much appreciate any support that is given.
Do know that if the level of support is sufficient, I will be able to devote a significant amount of time and resources back into GreekChat. This "fundraising" effort might even make it possible for me to fully focus on GreekChat as the core of my business in the very near / almost immediate future. I'm hoping that with the support of the GC community we can make this happen.
