Artificial Intelligence!!

Anyone excited to see this movie? It sounds really good - plus it doesn't hurt that Jude Law is in it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif. And it's a Spielberg film!

I really like it b/c it's about a boy who's genetically engineered - I'm interested to see what happens to him.

I saw the previews but I didn't know Jude Law was in it.....hehehe all the more reason to go watch it! jude is hot hot hot!

but of course, the plot is interesting in itself too. i wonder how it is to have a robot for a bf--like the one I watched last night in Buffy, there was this robot girl who became so obsessed with her creator. Freaky.

Yeah, I normally hate science fiction, too! But I'm excited to see it, b/c it kind of has to do with Sociology (IMO), in that the kid is a robot - programmed to have feelings, etc., instead of the regular person, who is "real" and is manifested from his parents. (So it would be interesting to see what the boy's like from a sociological standpoint.)

Gammazetagrl - I was reading Rolling STone the other day - and the review for A.I. is not THAT great - says it's pretty brilliant - one-of-a-kind definitely (even kind of "creepy" hahaaa), but that the directors (Spielberg, and the late Kubrick) were just SO different (Spielberg is usually more interested in humans moving forward, succeeding, while Kubrick is interested in the dark side of human life), that A.I. is just kind of confusing.

But I still want to see it, since it's so different from anything else ever made!!!

The reviewer on the radio was saying the same thing - that Spielberg plus Kubrick created a weird polarity that was almost schizophrenic. It's like if they tried to take the heart and family values of E.T. and fuse it into the machine oriented portrait of futility of 2001 a Space Odyssey.
I still want to see it to. If nothing else it looks visually amazing!!!!

Yes! Veruca, Rolling Stone was saying that it makes E.T. look "normal" or something like that http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif! Rolling STone did say that the visual effects are AMAZING...so definitely we'll be in for a treat!

Hey everyone, I was just joking around with some friends last night that I want to see spielberg do a movie similar to "Dude where's my car". Wouldn't that be a little change of pace for him?

Actually, it looks kind of interesting. I probably won't see it in the theatre, but it might be worth renting when the time comes.

For the most part I liked it.. the beginning was like E.T., the middle like Brazil and the ending was like a combo of 2001: A Space Odyssy & Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

It was totally the story of Pinocchio. There wasn't nearly enough attention given to why there was a battle against the mecha's and orga's in the first place.

And I adored Jude Law's character!! Aside from being just plain hot, his character was really great. I think Speilburg was too afraid to use him to his potentiol, since he's basically a robot built to be a jigaloo.

Once the voice-over started near the end Spielburg took over too much. It should have just ended there... not been so sugar-coated.

Somebody there took a kid http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif .. who immediately started crying when things got dark. So, just an FYI... NOT A KIDS MOVIE!!!

I agree Silver Turtle - after the kid jumped they should have stopped or maybe after it was trapped under the sea. But that end was soooo awfully cheesy it really ruined the film for me. It would have been such a nice moral film. Well - Hollywood has spoken!

Did anybody else think that the kid is a great actor?

Wow, I'm glad it wasn't just us but YES the ending felt really tacked on. It's like a focus group said it was too sad - you have to make the movie happy. You are exactly right about when the movie should have ended. I bet if Kubrick survived to see it made it would have been a lot shorter. Maybe I was just so excited to see it that it was just really anti-climactic.

Anyway, Haley Joel Osmont (sp?) is the most amazing young man. You really believed he was a robot with a soul. The least convincing performance was the mother. I never really believed that she loved David - she was just always acting scared of him.

WOW!!!! Not blinking is hard for anyone to do - ESPECIALLY a kid his age! I think he is either 11 or 12? I think he's so adorable - I wouldn't mind having a little brother like him http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. He is REALLY gifted, I agree - did you see him in The Sixth Sense????

I dont know, it was just strange. I dont like sci-fi but this was different even for sci-fi. I do give props to the kid though, he is a great actor. I also noticed the not blinking thing.
