What is your political philosophy?
I'm a leftist socialist. I guess I would have been better of living in the Scandanivian countries.

I'm liberal. I almost joined the Green Party, but didn't like their states' rights policies. I believe in a strong, national government, like a good little democrat. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I'm kind of a hard nosed pragmatist, with a an ounce of social compassion motivated by a keen sense of self preservation:

If it isn't broken don't fix it, but constantly improve the method to improve the bottom line.

Don't let people in the world be hungry: hungry people engage in violence, or get sick and spread their disease globally. We could get sick . . .

Make sure people are able to pursue their dreams of success on a level playing field: Frustrated people result to ilegal or violent acts to achieve what they believe is their due. We could get hurt . . .

Make sure the government is not in the business of putting its own people to death: Do we truly want to trust other mortals we know to be weak and venal to investigate, prosecute and pass the extreme judgement on people? We could be the people dying next from circumstantial evidence or some change in the laws later.

Oh well, I could go on and on.

Cheers to my liberal sisters and brothers! I call myself liberal and that's what i usually identify with, but I am fiscally conservative. When it comes down to it, though, I'll choose the democrats because I'd rather have freedom than money!

Once again, it seems I'll have a dissenting opinion http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I'm a registered Republican, with centrist tendencies. My main problem with the liberal philosophy is abortion. That is where I lean towards the right.

I don't think that its Bush's fault that the economy is taking a nosedive right now. Its the fault of many many many dot-com businesses failing when investors got nervous that the businesses weren't turning a profit. A "revolutionary" business plan and a lot of venture capital don't make for a successful business. No profit means no dividends, means nervous investors, which means the stock price drops.

I also don't think Clinton was responsible for all the good times in the past. Alan Greenspan (I love that guy) is a genius and he is responsible for a lot of good times - after all, the President doesn't control interest rates!

I have to agree with juniorgrrl. I don't think it is totally Bush's fault for the nosedive the economy has taken. And I also don't think that Clinton is solely responsible for the economy being good during his administration. I did vote for Bush during the election but at times he does scare me with some of his actions and words.

I just realized that Greeks are not stereotypical. The media always potrayed us as a Young Republican Yuppie groups. If they see my chapter, we look more like the ACLU and Greenpeace then College Republicans. Again, the media potraying groups according to stereotype.

By the way, if you mistrust the media as I do, check out this site:

I believe in as little government as possible. I believe in women's right to choose, really truly life imprisonment instead of capital punishment, and I think school choice is the crappiest idea I've ever heard of.

I am registered Republican mostly because of my parents - my mother was a committewoman and where I'm from you DO NOT register differently from your parents - but I really don't like to put a label on what I am. Since being a Rep is almost a "rebellious" thing these days, I'll keep it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

And finally, I voted for W, if for no other reason than the fact that Gore looks like a baked potato. I didn't want to spend 4 years throwing sour cream and chives at the TV set.

Correct me if I'm wrong, which I very well may be, but I didn't think Dubya had a daughter named Barbara, just a mom. She must be looking *dang* good for 70-some to pass for a college student LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

If you're a liberal republican you'd love politics in Canada - we have a Progressive Conservative party (now that's an oxymoron if I ever did see one) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I'm the same way, I'm conservative with some views and liberal with others, that's why I love PC.

Y'all please! This man violated the Kyoto Treaty, pissed of the entire continent of Europe, destroyed our already fragile relations with China, AND his new budget just slashed funding for NREL where my friends used to work. NREL is a nationally funded laboratory that researches alternative energy sources. Apparently though, Bush doesn't think that's important - despite current energy prices. I supported Gore because Nader didn't have a prayer and Gore was the lesser of two evils. Also, just so you all know - the stock market started its crash in November due in part to the uncertainty surrounding the election and has gone further downhill since. Economic growth is directly related to consumer spending, which is related to consumer confidence in economic trends. At least some small part of our economic slowdown happened because consumers lost confidence in the market, partly due to a president being elected that most of us didn't vote for!

I'm sure people will get irate about this, but I'm going to say it anyway. I just can't stand Al Gore! He came off as arrogant and condescending in the debates, and trust me, I watched them all. Plus he wore more makeup than Tammy Faye Baker! There's something wrong when a man can't even carry his own home state.

Anyway, if I had found the Democratic candidate more likeable, more down to earth, the party might have had my vote. But I think people need to give Bush a chance. Clinton was the slimiest president in American history, and an utter disgrace to our nation morally, so this is a welcome change.

Bush has only been in office a few months, and people are blaming him for everything under the sun. He hasn't even been in the position long enough to do all the damage some people are accusing him of! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

If I was an American I would be a republican, however I really liked Clinton as did many other Canadians: he had great relations with our country and at least knew our Prime Minister's last name... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I swear over the past few years Jean Chretien is sounding more like a French delicacy than the leader of Canada:
Jean Crouton
Jean Poutine LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
