Through private e-mails, cutiepie2000 and I realized that we work a 5 minute walk from one another. Literally. Small world eh? So, after weeks of e-mailing, we finally went for lunch. It was really great to meet someone I have talked to so much and who has common interests. It made our big GreekChat world seem just a little bit smaller.
We were both thinking of posting this thread because at lunch, we were both wondering how many other GreekChat people, who are not in the same chapter (or campus), have met up with someone else they have talked to on GreekChat. We can't be the only ones!!!
Please share your stories http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif .

Yes, 'tis true! We did meet! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
It was so cool to meet a real life GreekChatter in person. Anyone else out there met face to face? (i.e. where you did not know each other already, prior to Greek Chat?)

When Duncan's Greek Discussion Board was going strong, I was fortunate to meet Chantal, an AGD alum doing grad work down at Univ. of FL. We're still friends and keep in touch (too sporadically, my bad) via e-mail.

Not on this board, but another board. I met a sister IRL! It was awesome. I went to her alum chapter meeting one time and another time we did Christmas shopping together and went to dinner!

I've done the internet dating thing before. Gulp. A dicey thing, but also much fun. Important to have a solid screening procedure in place. A good way to meet new people whose paths you wouldn't normally cross, too.

Barb--you and your husband are so cute together! Hope y'all are together forever!!!
Amycat--I've done the whole online dating thing too. I'm really kind of embarrassed to say that actually. Anyways...my experiences with it aren't that great.
Anyways...I would love to meet another greekchatter. All of y'all are so sweet and awesome. If any of y'all make it down to Louisiana be sure you let me know. I would love to show y'all around!!!!

We need to all rent a hotel ball room one summer and have a big ol formal shindig. T shirts and the whole nine yards. Sheesh, might get a little out of hand but after you post on here for just a little while you learn a little about everyone's personality.
Hey Hammell, wanna rent us a hotel ballroom somewhere for a weekend so we can all come get wild??? BTW- never got response from you about making me a moderator of a beer thread........bad idea?

That's hilarious!!!
Here's a thought(JUST a thought):
How about I talk to the governor of Louisiana and get him to block off Bourbon Street down in New Orleans for a weekend for just us greekchatters. And then for BillyOptimist I get Britney Spears to come perform. And of course for Amycat, GPhi, Prospectiverushee, and myself...I have our adorable Dave come perform!!!!
Again...I say this is just a thought!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

LOL. I'm all over that idea!!! I'm also into the Dave Matthews rental idea. Lousiana sounds great. I've never been there.
Although, you have to admit, it would be an interesting scene.
Pro-Hazers in one corner, Anti-Hazers in another. DMB fans in the other while the Sublime people hang out in the remaining corner. Candians will be grouped together discussing dry housing and it's lack of applicability to our houses with houses that have gone dry or are pro-or against going dry. We'll have a huge circle talking about the ins and outs of LSU rush and discussions about how hilarious and humilating some of our drinking experiences have been. And don't forget the group of sorority girls comparing Kate Spade bags and other such sorority girl essentials.
NPC/NPHC/BGLOs/GLOs will answer questions about the differences in their systems for the MILLIONTH time and there will be a list posted on the wall with definitions to all the terms that vary between houses.
Billy will be giving a pep talk on how great everyone really is and how great life is all the way around. And AmyCat will be yelling at all the girls who even dare suggest that Dave Matthews will pick them over her.
Of course we'll have that small group of posters who don't show up because theyare annonymous about where they live and which house they are affiliated with so they can get honest responses to their controversial questions.
And last but not least, we'll be waiting on DrinknNole to show up to shake up the party.
It's sure to be quite the event, and one I wouldn't want to miss!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif .

Well if everyone would be willing to come up to Ottawa, I could take some time to show the hot spots of the city. It's kind of dull right now, not much goes on in the spring compared to winterlude and the tulip festival in the summer. Even though I was being a bit tongue in cheek when I referred to "our nation's capital" as Ottawa, I have to say, coming to Canada for a big reunion party would be great for you Americans....you would get a wicked exchange rate on the USD$, whereas, if we Canadians had to travel to the US, that exchange rate pretty much pummels us....

TORONTO IS THE PLACE TO BE PEOPLE!!!!
It's nice and it's Southern Canada, and relatively central (sorry B.C. people but you're just too dang far). And Ottawa, well, it's nice and all, but Toronto is closer to the U.S. border and way way way cooler http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif . hehe.

Vancouver's climate is pretty much the same as Seattle.
Vancouver in summer.... (July and August)...you will never see a prettier city!

KABillyMac, I dont think we would know what to do that far north in Canada. We would probably stick out a bit. I wouldnt look unusual in my Red Wings and Khakis up there, would I? (For you non southerners, I am not refering to a hockey team when I say RedWings. Its a type of boot.)
I am up for partying WHEREVER! I am telling yall, greekchat.com formal! Would so Rock. The Senior Members could have a new member workshops for the Junior members, led by gphi2k, and Artmis. it would be great. there could be the 1000 post club, like for alumni.
Of course, you know who would probably show up, threatning all of us with lawsuits and injunctions and stuff. We'd have to get security involved, Mr. H would have to have a bodyguard.
Billy Optimist would be the MC for some reason. I could see kevin DJing, 12Dn94dst, AKA2d91 leading the rest of us in the electric slide, cutiepie2000 would be in charge of Decorations, along with OTW and localsororities. Penguintrax, carnation, AXo alum, ISU_XO and TomEarp would be the hosts. Mikki would get cutest couple with the fiance, 'cause they so in love....
And from the posts I have read, me along with dc1, bucutie, damasa, LSUTigergirl, amycat, KsigRC, lil_g, and QT-Pie would all be at the bar having a grand old time http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif, competing for most embarising greekchat.com formal story.

As much as i'm down with Las Vegas or California, I don't think you yanks really know how bad our dollar is. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
When I was at daytona for spring break everything I spent money on (food, booze) cost an additional 50%.
What I can't understand is how there's no price difference, for example at fast-food chains. Let's say A BK meal in Canada would cost $5 can., but if I bought that same meal in the states it would cost $5 american http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif
That's why if americans came up here, a $5 meal would only cost $3.33, see what i'm getting at.

CutiePie2000,
Those places sound awesome. However, I'm not much of a skier *LOL* I basically rolled down Squaw Valley once *LOL* I guess I should of started with a training class at Boreal. The only place I've been to in Canada was Bamf? when I was a baby my parents took me up there and they told me its very pretty up there. Canada would be an awesome trip and GPHI2K, your pretty convincing *LOL* Gotta love the cheap prices on the tasty refreshments. However......, AMY has an excellent point. I've never gone to Vegas and they do have cheap airfares from all destinations. *LOL* Especially L.A. I'd be cool with what anyone decided. Lifesaver, you got me rollin with that picture. Actually one time I helped out this AXP DJ a Wedding Reception Before. I dont think its me but hey I'm for the mission. *L* You know I'd be throwin down with all kinds of music. Especially ERASURE, DMB, LIVE, SKA, G FUNK. I definitely would take all the special requests from the ladies. I love the picture with John walking around with his bodyguards like MIB. LOL More and More I think about it its got to be VEGAS. Yep. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Lifesaver--I loved your post!! For some reason I could see BillyOptimist being the MC too. He just has that type of personality. OH...and I think I would definitely win the most embarrassing story. I'm such a klutz and I do the goofiest things sometimes.
BillyOptimist--I'm still willing to get Britney to perform for you if you come down!!! LOL.
And for all of my fellow Dave lovers...I would have him come down and of course since I would be the hostess for our little soiree he would pay me all of his attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry AmyCat,
We have no one from Quebec on this site at all so you can't blame all us Candians for someone who lives in a province that would cease to belong to Canada at all, if given the chance.
I think everything about this idea is absolutely hilarious. I can't even imagine what kind of hook-ups there'd be http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif !!!
And I think all of us Canucks would be fascinated to see how you American Beer drinkers handled our real beer as opposed to your near beer http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif .
Wonder if the moderators would have to serve as body guards, with Mr. Hammell as the head security guard. And what do you think of a senior member ceremony? You know, having those Junior members who are only one post away from Senior Member given a ribbon of somesort. And I do love the idea previously mentioned about a 1000+ posters club. They'd be the golden members, and receive a nice spool of golden yarn to represent their great and valued contribution to our threads http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif .
I think we should all just settle on Canada. Cause when it comes down to it, when looking at the pros and cons, you got good beer versus earthquake central. I dunno about you guys but I know where I'd rather be http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif .

Union Square, Pac Bell Park: the most beautiful baseball park in the world, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiradelli Square, Golden Gate Bridge, the Cliffhouse...and the list goes on and on. Plus all those beautiful seaside towns are only minutes away! Such as Sausalito.
Or just anywhere in beautiful California. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

GIRL! I am all about the BBQ. So down with that. SO to mediate here, hows 'bout the "Greekchat.com Formal Weekend" (I keep calling it the greekchat.com formal because I think including the .com gives it the air of corporate sponsorship, like the nokia bowl or something.) Anyway, if we make it a formal weekend, we could have the BBQ like on Sunday afternoon before we all head out or something, all casual, kickin it in a park somewhere, cookin up chickin, sitting on coolers, waiting for the step show to begin, ya'll see where I am goin with this. It would SO be the BOMB! That way, we could formal on Saturday at some Hotel or something, then BBQ and step on Sunday. See? BTW, we still have to be doin some 'lectric slide. Ya'll aint lived till yall see me in the boots TEARIN it up to the slide. (ALSO, BTW, and KABillyMac will so get my back on this, in the South, Red Wings, Khakis and a jacket ARE formal attire. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif)
KABillyMac, I am all for, in the words of Robert Earl Keen, "Some 5 Pound Bass" in the great white north. Do they actually have a moose season up there? Could we schedule this thing to coincide with Moose season? All I have ever hunted is sucky south-texas white tail or javalina (a cross between a rat and pig. Good eating if you grew up on it, but I must confess it IS a part of the rodent family. I swear.)
How about having Dave himself provide the entertainment, along with Brittney. (for you Billy) Ya'll knowq we'd all be having the after party in Mr H's Penthouse suite. YEAH BOYE!!!

I am with ya my friend. Glad to know I am not the only one on here with the redwing/khakis thing. Nothing like hitting a UT football game and just about EVERYONE in attendance is wearing the same getup. I was in mourning a few weeks ago because I had to send them in to be resoled. (for ya'll not in the know, you cant just let any unskilled cobbeler work on them, no, no, you must send them to the factory, where the original craftsmen created them, lovingly from the raw materials they once were). I had the wedge heel, but got the bigger one this time around, gave me an extra half inch, why not. I look that much more intimidating http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif in them. But I had to go without them for 14 days, ugh! I was so uncomfortable in anything else. But they came back looking GREAT! Alas, my old friends, been with me since '93. Still goin strong!

Lifesaver--I have to agree with you. In the South...Khakis, Red Wings, and a Jacket are what REAL MEN wear!!! LOL.

I think there is a moose season (not sure when), but c'mon guys we got a lot more to offer than hunting and fishing http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif
But if that's what you really want we can probably travel to Timmins Ontario (10 hours north of Ottawa) to the middle of nowhere and hunt some moose - 'cause I haven't seen any in downtown Ottawa, sorry http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
Speaking of southern food, what exactly is gritz? On my trip to daytona we stopped off at a truck stop and there was this stuff (food?) that looked like a pure lard mixed with eggs and grease - not too appetizing http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
I know i'm gonna take a lot of flak for this....but i think the food in Canada is better than in the states http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

BBQ! cool beans! BEER, no problem...if chicken is also on the menu, the Omegas will DEFINETLY show up (I love my Bruhs, I really do LOL)! LOL!
ok, grits (which, IMO, are YUMMY with butter & cheese) (courtesy of <A HREF="http://"http://grits.com"" TARGET=_blank>grits.com</A>):
Grits are small broken grains of corn. They were first produced by Native Americans centuries ago. They made both "corn" grits and "hominy" grits.
Falls Mill produces "corn" grits.
Corn Grits
Falls Mill mills locally grown whole white hybrid corn. The corn is dried to a 14% moisture content, then each kernel is cleaned with forced air. The kernels of grain are run through the mill stone where they are ground to a certain texture and then sifted through two wire mesh screens. The three products sorted are white corn meal, white corn grits and the bran that pops off. There is a fine bran still in the grits product. This bran will never soften up with cooking. Depending on personal preference, the bran can be left in or removed by rinsing the grits before cooking. Yummy!
Hominy is made from field corn that is soaked in lye water (potash water in the old days) and stirred over the next day or two until the entire shell or bran comes loose and rises to the top. The kernel itself swells to twice its original size. After the remaining kernels have been rinsed several times, they are spread to dry either on cloth or screen dryers.

Yah, that'd be quite the event. Bunch'o greeks meeting up at Mardi Gras. My guess is we'd have a great time, but none of us would remember the next day. Granted, could you imagine what a party that would be http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif ?!? But again, i remind all of you about the many wonders of Candian beer. Once you try it, you'll never go back.
But if you want beeds instead of beer, i understand....

Alright--her's the deal. Is there anybody out there in Greekchat land that's knows they are coming to Mardi Gras next year besides sigmagrrl? Here's what I'll do--if anybody decides to come down I will personally throw everybody a party and show y'all around NOLA. HOW'S THAT for a deal??? I want everybody to come visit me here in Louisiana.
Oh and by the way--is there anybody on here that lives near Sacramento??? The Sigma Alpha National Convention is being held there in October and I'd love to meet some Californian Greekchatters while I'm there!!!!!

Me too! I'm so thankful there is a website like this where I ask all the questions I'd be afraid to ask anyone in person... http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
While I'm here, I might as well say that I went to high school with Allie_XO and she's so sweet!
