View Full Version : Judging Greeks and the Greek life stereotype
I just wanted to say I am impressed with you Greeks. I had the stereotypical image of Greek life....like from the movies (Nerd, Nerd 2 etc..) Apparantly, Greek life is not about partying all the time, being drunk 6-7 days a week, crazy girls like the girls gone wild advertisements...etc
Although the guys from fraternities I have talked to present fraternity life like this, I guess they're just trying to get me to join. I had the image that sorority girls were head over heels and would hook up with the fraternity guys and stuff. Now I know this is not necessarily true. I asked the question "would you date a guy that was not in a fraternity?" I was surprised to find most of you said essentially that you don't date letters...but people.
Anyway, that's pretty cool.
P.S. - I have decided I do not want to join a fraternity b/c personally a brotherhood does not appeal to me b/c I have a lot of friends.

Because he just keeps starting the same stupid thread over and over again. cheerful doesn't mean I'm always happy. I used to be a cheerleader.

You started this whole thing, so I think you're the one who looks like an idiot. Either that, or you're just a trouble maker.

Why not join a fraternity and still hang out with your old friends? Nothing wrong with that. Fraternities are great for net working.

I read the whole thread. It's not like you weren't giving it straight back. Besides, she didn't start out by calling you a bitch. Just...chill. Make fun of Jock16 or something. Or the OP.

You had me until your P.S.
Friends /=/ Lifelong Brotherhood.
Friends are there for a time of your life; brothers or sisters are there forever. Obviously, that doesn't appeal to you, so I do think you've made the right choice.

No, thanks to Dish Network, I have every other channel known to man except ABC Family and Noggin (which doesn't matter anymore because they stopped showing Daria reruns).

Being a part of a fraternity or sorority is about a whole lot more than just having friends. And I don't know why some people think that you can't have a lot of friends and be in a greek letter organization or that you have to abandon your friends because you have fraternal brothers and sisters. Do those who have blood brothers and sisters not have friends also? I swear the rumors and myths surrounding greek life are baffling.

Noggin used to show Daria reruns? Damn my basic cable! Although I must admit that Noggin used to freak me out with that odd show with the talking hands.
And I didn't know Daria had a second movie come out. I must get out of my house more often!

I believe AF is referring to the N. You're right about Oobi the talking hand though. (I saw it on Talk Soup) And we thought everyone on The Electric Company was on drugs. :p

Yeah, I was. The N is what Noggin calls it's nighttime "older crowd" programming. It's the same station. I just said Noggin because I thought it would be recognized more than just "The N".
