OK this may sound like a strange question but..... I have been a Sigma Nu since 2000. Often times I hear brothers and other people refer to us as Snakes. I have always seen us as Knights. Before you say anything I know the snake/serpent is a part of our history and is considered our mascot but I have never heard this as an official nickname. My question I guess is why don't we all refer to ourselves as Knights instead of snakes?

I have no good answer for this. Our colony was founded in '99. We sort of did what everyone else in our region did.

I became a Knight of Sigma Nu in 1991, and I get my thinking from visits to the old Arkansas chapter (before getting shut down and re-chartering), Oklahoma State, UCLA, Kansas and Oklahoma.

You are a Knight to your brothers and alumni.
You are a Snake to the campus as a whole.

I love it.. Much better then being some other weak name/nickname.

Our active chapter generally preffers "Knight" to "Snake". It kinda fits our present image as the best fraternity for philanthropy events as we are always "lending a helping hand" to our campus.

The older alumni prefer "Snakes".
