Me: Clinique Happy - it is so great! I also love Estee' Lauder Pleasures, and Curve
Husband: Hearing you on the ABERCROMBIE, Iowahawkeye!
Dad: I am the only one allowed to buy cologne for daddy (no one else has any sense of smell) - fav's for him are Curve, Safari, and Romance (this is the most delicious scent - powerful yet just sensitive enough to make a woman look twice)
What I HATE Obsession - YUCK! Especially the cheap off-brand scent. I think this stems from some guy in 9th grade spilling a bottle on me at a party. Why he felt he needed to be carrying a bottle of cologne on him is beyond me :-) I also hate the original Giorgio (yellow bottle I think?)

I forgot to add, I have a very small bottle, and when I say small--like sample small. I'm not sure WHAT it is. A bridesmaid at my cousin's wedding gave it to me when I was a flowergirl. I was like 5. She was from Germany and brought over bottles of it for the entire wedding party--including me. I can't read anything on the bottle except the numbers 711. I LOVE this perfume. I wear it ONLY on special occassions and it's lasted me THIS long! It's very strong, so I don't put very much on, just a dab behind the ears and on the chest. Anyway, it's my ultimate favorite, maybe because of the connection I have with it. Just thought I'd share.

Xeyrus by Givenchy rocks on me. I'll get compliments from the checkers at the grocery store. I was told by a perfumer one time that if people give you compliments on your fragerance, then you are wearing the right one. I only wear it on the weekends. If I wore it daily, I'd have to buy a bottle every three months. I usually only wear it in the fall or winter. My favorite! http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?productId=P0959&brandLetter=G&theClass=C301&brandId=1133
For spring or summer I like something a bit lighter, like Egoiste by Chanel.

Yes, ma'am the perfume of which you speak would be 4711 and it is made in Koln, Germany
(Koln = Cologne....
Koln is the German word, Cologne is the English word). Hence the term "Eau De Cologne"...Water from Cologne (or Koln).
My Mom has been wearing that perfume for years, and yes, indeed, it is a unisex perfume (way before CK1 ever existed). The cool thing is the 4711 is the address of the building where the shop is, and it's been there in Koln for about 300 years! (I've been to it...they have a really cool chimes mechanism that moves at certain hours). And it is STILL AT that location (so if you go to Germany...make sure you go there!!!)

To 33girl and Mikki:
Here's some more info on 4711...here is a photo of the "Glockenspiel" that they have there:
http://www.4711.com/images/bild_glockenspiel.jpg
and this is the label you know and love!
http://www.4711.com/images/bild_klassiker.gif
You might want to check out the website: http://www.4711.com/
I thought it was quite interesting. It should appear in English, but if you get German, just click on the British Union Jack flag and you'll get English! Tell me what you think!!!

Wow! I've just recently seen this topic! Most families collect art or wine--mine collected perfume! I have worn everything from Italian to French to Asian to Spanish... my family favors bold strong scents like Salvador Dali, Fendi, Moschino, Maggie Noir (my least favorite in the world, I've discovered) the list goes on and on. I have found that I favor French and floral, feminine perfumes.
You all have given me a few male scents to buy this year, as I'm out of the loop on hot male scents!
For myself:
--Champs-Elysees by Guerlain
--Aqua Allegoria (the Herba Fresca scent) by Guerlain--if you love grass, herb and green scents, try this one.
--Anais Anais by Cacharel (although I first got this perfume by my Grandad in JR. HIGH as my first real perfume, I came back to it a year ago. Oddly enough, folks seem to like the feminine floral scent on me).
--Nature's One Gardenia by Perlier--found this alcohol-free perfume on Home Shopping. If you like Gardenia, this is a great one for the collection.
For men: Burburry (for men who can wear bolder scents), Burburry Weekend (for men who can wear lighter scents), Xeryes (sp).

for me: Trueste by Tiffany, Issey Miyake
on other girls (just can't wear them myself): Sung, Quelques Fleurs, and the new Calvin Klein is AWESOME.
for him: Ralph Lauren Romance is my new favorite!!!
TICKLEDPINK: I second you!! A boy walked by me once at a party and I chased him down and asked him what he wore and wrote it down on a beverage napkin. of course = Jean-Paul Gaultier!!!
HATE: Chanel No. 5! I just don't know why I can't get into that perfume. I know it's a classic, like Joy and Norell, but those scents "back in the day" were so HEAVY. Also, HATE Youth Dew. It smells like great-grandmothers, which is not necessarily bad, but I am in my 20's.

Hey everyone. Jean Paul Gaultier has a mens fragrance and the bottle is shaped like a man's torso. What is the name of this cologne?
James
11-29-2000, 10:52 PM
For men . . . I don't much care but for me Drakkar because it seems a favorite of the ladies . . .
For women, I don't know the names but something strong is good, and I like the various body sprays (?). And ofcourse sometimes she might not be wearing anything but smell incredible . . . phermones (spelling?) perhaps.

For Guys: Typically a light musk. There is one i typically melt over, but I don't remeber what its called. I know so many guys that don't really wear anything - I don't think they understand....

For the days where I don't want to wear something strong, I wear Sweet Temptations body spray from Vickie's Secret. For some reason, I don't like the body sprays from Bath and Body Works....

My mom bought me a bottle of Ralph Lauren Glamorous, but I don't get that until Christmas....:( I can't *WAIT* to start wearing that though!
As far as on guys, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE guys that wear Pleasures for men, that is an orgasm in a bottle, my gosh!!! Unfortunately I've only met three guys in my life who wear it, and one of them was gay. :( I am crazy about it though!!! I like Pleasures by Estee Lauder - it is very light and whimsical, IMO.
I studied perfumery for quite awhile, it helped me figure out what type of scents I gravitate to. I tend to like a lot of fruity or floral orientals.
For me: Eau de Vie (Lise Watier), Poison (Christian Dior), Tendre Poison (Dior), Haiku (Avon), various perfumes from Perfumes of Polynesia (mostly Plumeria and Pikake), Navy (Coty).
For him: Farenheit (Christian Dior), Neiges Pour Homme (Lise Watier), Swiss Army, Universo (Coty -which I don't think they even make anymore), Gravity (Coty), Cool Wave (Gillette) aftershave
I love way more men's colognes than women's. I LOVE when men wear cologne.

Guy: Cool Water, Pi by Givenchy, Aqua di Gio
One night, some of the Phi Kaps decided to take revenge on me, so when I was hanging out with them, they sprayed me with Pi cologne, aftershave, and AXE deodorant body spray. I have to say that AXE is quite possibly one of the nastiest things I've ever smelled and I can't picture a guy picking a girl up wearing that. Bu the Pi stuff was really good.

I mean, I know why you wear it, but I think that it smells bad. I don't like a girl to smell bad. I hate it when I am about to go out, and I pass a group of girls, and they smell the whole street up. It is gross. It smells like ass. I am serious. One time, a girl in a class of mine smelled good, and I said, "hey, you smell good." It turns out she didn't like to wear regular perfume, but she went to this little shop where they sold weird perfumes, like lime, grass, and fire. She wore cinnamon, and it smelled really good.

One of the girls I work with wears Tomato. It smells fabulous on her. It doesn't smell like spaghetti sauce, but like a tomato fresh from the garden which is a smell many of us don't get to experience anymore.
I've heard varying reviews on the Demeter fragrances' staying power though - some say they last forever, some say they don't last at all.

I've been wearing Ralph Lauren Romance for a few years now, and I love having my own 'Signature Scent,' lol. Sadly, my boyfriend hates wearing cologne; I've bought him dozens of bottles to no avail. He sticks to his unscented deoderant and boring Shampoo. So unfortunate, I LOVE men's cologne.

I like Intuition by Estee Lauder, I got a bottle for my birthday a couple years ago and wear it only occasionally because it is a little strong for wearing in Florida every day. I would like to find something lighter, but unique, any suggestions?
As for my wonderful guy, I bought him a sample-size bottle of Lucky (he's rather picky about scents) and he loved it. It's not very impressive in the bottle and it's not very expensive, but on him it's amazing. I had to go buy him a bigger bottle!

I love "Casaque" by Jean d'Albret... but it was discontinued years ago. I was so happy to find that a company named Irma Shorell bought the recipe and is now manufacturing it. That's what I'm wearing now!
It's very light and subtle with the most fabulous scent that I can't even compare to anything else in the stores. It has a combination of hyacinth, mimosa, lemon, bergamot, jasmin, lily of the valley, ylang-ylang, carnation, orange flower, rose absolute and sandalwood.
I don't have a real favorite men's cologne... there are so many I like. Among them: Polo Ralph Lauren Blue, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme, and Burberry London.

I rotate between:
-Ralph Lauren Romance (love it, but now it reminds me too much of college to wear it since I wore this and Estee Lauder Pleasures ONLY throughout all my college years)
-Chanel Allure, I love it but stopped wearing it all the time after a boy I liked told me that I smelled "realy nice, but kind of like my grandma" :(
-Gucci Rush, love love love this but it's too heavy for daily wear for me
-One of the Victoria Secret perfumes, I am so clueless and don't even know which one it is but it was on sale and smells awesome
I am pretty sure I am going to purchase a new bottle of perfume this weekend; the question is...do I go with Philosophy Amazing Grace (I can't get over how much I love this stuff) or something else? I am looking for a new scent that I can wear daily, like I used to with Romance. I will have to head to Von Maur on Friday I guess to check out the perfumes...hopefully I'll be able to find something awesome to spoil myself with. ;)
Also for guys my favvvvvvvvorite cologne is Estee Lauder Pleasures for men, nothing ever smells as good as this does, to me anyway. And I'm allergic to Polo Sport, which I also think is just about the tackiest cologne ever, next to Cool Water, Tommy Hilfiger, or anything else you'd find on a 15-year-old awkward high school boy. :(

Anna Sui Dolly Girl On The Beach
Burberry Brit

Ok so after going shopping for a new perfume and almost getting sick from smelling literally every. single. perfume. in the whole store (I tested some, left for awhile, came back and tried some more, and so on for about 3 hours! ) I found a perfect new perfume that I am absolutely IN LOVE with!
I bought Marc Jacobs perfume, not Blush, but the regular one. It's smells mainly like gardenias, which I love, but it's not too powerful or anything so I can wear it as an everyday scent. I've gotten several compliments on it already! :D

I am a Chanel Chance girl.
Me too! I love it!
I actually used to get the most compliments when I wore Ralph by Ralph Lauren.. but I ran out, and I personally prefer Chanel Chance.
Then again I love anything with those interlocking C's on it.

I'm a huge perfume fan! I wish some of these Germans would get on the bandwagon... he he.
For me, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Creed. Two of my favorite scents are Fleurissimo (created for Grace Kelly for her wedding to the Prince of Monacco) and the new Love in White. Absolutely intoxicating. I also really like the Gucci II my hubby gave me last year for my birthday. I wear that one on a daily basis-- very clean, with a hint of sweet.
For Bubba (my husband), I adore him in his Creed Green Irish Tweed and Perry Ellis Man (his everyday scent). I also like Drakkar every now and then, but it reminds me of jr high/high school too much. And I detest Eternity. But that's for a personal reason and not so much the scent itself.

I wear Avon Haiku a lot now because I got a perfume roll on and it's perfect to just dab on - I hate perfume spray bottles, I can't wear a lot of scent, it drives me crazy.
I'm still mad I can't find Lise Watier's Eau de vie anywhere. Best perfume I ever smelled.

Ok I'm weighing in again...I got the Intuition, and I LOVE it. I also...even though I usually hate celebrity scents...purchased Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. It lasts forever - to the point I get compliments on it at the end of the day!! Mostly from girls though, so maybe it's just not all that sexy. LOL.
There are so many fragrances I want to try it's not even funny. I drool over the Jo Malone display every time I go into Saks, but that's beaucoup bucks.

I've been looking for a good fall/winter fragrance, but I've found most of them too heavy for my tastes (or they mess with my allergies). I ended up getting Noa Fleur. I almost came home with whatever Escada put out for the summer, though. I love their fragrances!

I still wear Chanel Allure (I guess I like smelling like somebody's Grandma) and bought Ines de la Fressange from sephora.com a while ago. For fun, I have a trial size Aquolina Pink Sugar that I wear sometimes. I usually ask the husband for a new scent each Christmas.
Sometimes, I check the free samples from sephora.com and if they have samples of perfume, I'll buy something small just to test them out. In fact, there are a few on there right now I'd like, but we can't really afford to buy anything.
The husband doesn't wear any cologne, and I kind of like it that way.

See, I don't *personally* think it smells like a grandma (or at least not my grandmas lol); I think it smells awesome. The kid was a douchebag anyway, so his opinion on perfume isn't valid. ;) I still love Allure, I've been wearing it more at night though when I go out and then wearing the Marc Jacobs during the day.

I like it because it's something I can see myself still wearing in 30 years, but I don't feel old wearing it now. It's classic. It has a *slight* powderish dry down on me (and normally I hate anything powder-scented), but nothing overpowering, it's just nice.

I wear Georgio Armani Sensi almost exclusively... but every now and then I mix in Breathe from the new BB&W line (can't remember exactly what it's called at the moment, but its packaging is red).

I fell in love with Burberry London when I had a sample of it. So I asked for it for Christmas and I don't like the big bottle. Has anyone else experienced this?
I know you sometimes can't trust small samples but this smells COMPLETELY different. At first I thought they got the men's version by mistake but nowhere on the box did it say "for men." My mom said she doesn't mind it so she would take it and buy me a replacement but I want the good smelling sample not another bottle that may smell just like this one. It has a very pungent top note. I don't know any other way to describe it. I've given it time to grow on me on several different occasions and that first whiff just never goes away.
I'm so sad!! :(

Well I am following up on my own post but I think I solved the mystery. The bottle and packaging that I have match the regular Burberry for Women bottle shown on their Web site. EXCEPT my bottle clearly says Burberry with London underneath it so I can't blame my brother for getting the wrong one. What stupid salesperson didn't realize what he meant when he asked for Burberry London??? It's their newest fragrance. Sheesh!
My post from page 2:
For me: Boss Woman (Hugo Boss), Eau de Vie (Lise Watier), Poison (Christian Dior), Tendre Poison (Dior)
I wear all of the above still but Eau de Vie, because I don't think they make it anymore. I also wear Haiku (Avon) now. I love my Poison and Tendre Poison, if they ever stop making them I'll die.
I really want to find Chanel No 22. I remember just loving it, but it's SO hard to find.

Has anyone tried the new Dream Angel fragrance Desire? Just wondering how it smells.
I haven't tried it on, but I smelled in the store and so far I think it's the best of the Dream Angel line (which admittedly isn't my favorite).
I've updated my tastes since I last posted to this thread. Lately I've been wearing:
Oscar by Oscar de la Renta (my standby)
Cinema by Yves Saint Laurent (probably my current favoritoe)
Euphoria by Calvin Klien (very versatile)
Burberry Weekend (I'm sort of tiring of this one though)
Basic Instinct by Victoria's Secret (they're cancelling it :()
Lately, some of my scent snob friends have turned me on to BPAL, or Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab:

Now, from their website you'd think that their scents all cater to goths/hippies, and many of them do, but some of them are more mainstream but still incredibly unique. Their oils are also really strong and a little goes a long way. If you're into scents, it's definitely worth checking out.

I'm a perfume addict. I have so many bottles that I've had some of them for several years...to the point they're evaporating out of the bottle! :( I wear them depending on my mood.
My favorites are:
Cristobal by Balenciaga, Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, Chanel No. 5, Jo Malone Red Roses, and Fig Apricot by Fresh.
Others I have are:
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, J.P. Gaultier Fragile, Jo Malone Orange Blossom, Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin, Lalique, Flowerbomb, Dolce Gabbana Light Blue, Flowers & Chocolate by Fresh, and one by Ferragamo that my bf bought me and I don't care for very much.
Ones I can't wear:
Shalimar - it may be the most popular perfume of all time, but I will always associate it with my Grandma, as it was her signature scent.
Joy and Opium - my aunt's signature scent
Paloma Picasso - my mom's
Thiery Muglar's Angel - the scent makes me feel sick to my stomach
For men:
Burberry Brit
Hugo Boss
Aqua di Gio
Red by Giorgio Beverly Hills
Eternity by Calvin Klein
...and good ol' Polo Ralph Lauren

I was at VS yesterday and I bought myself some Very Sexy Sheer Sexy Mist (which, by the way, I don't really care for as much as the regular perfurme--but it was on sale for $15) and I smelled Very Sexy for Him for the first time...
OH MY GOD, I thought I was going to swoon away right there. I told my sister it reallllly made me wish that the bottle I was holding had a man attached. Ha. Seriously, though, it's my new favorite cologne.
ETA: One of my girlfriends wears Betsey Johnson and every time she walks in a room, even if I don't see her, I'm always like, "There's Laura!" because it just has this way of effervescing throughout the room without being too strong. It smells great, but I don't think I could ever wear it myself because that's the scent I associate with her, and I feel like it'd be kind of like cheating.

no i'm in college. i graduated high school '06 but after my first year of college i took a break so i'm a semester behind. so technically spring 08 is my first semester as a sophomore but it's goign to take like 6-8 years for me to graduate because i'm double majoring and minoring.

When catiebug starts quoting ktbug, it's hard to keep things straight -
I just gave away a Love Spell (by Victoria's Secret) body lotion. It was too heavy. One of my coworkers swears by Amber Romance. I just love VS's Divine & got the edt spray & body lotion for Christmas. I have several body sprays from VS, too.
I also love Estee Lauder's Cinnabar - I have both the powder & spray. I always have a couple of Avon cologne sprays to use daily (like Haiku, Be Kissable and Island Vibe). I use body sprays by Avon and Bed & Bath Works. Now I have B & B's Pink Grapefruit and Honeysuckle.
I'm always getting more scents - just ordered Avon's Flower (brand new) although I haven't even smelled it at all yet. Lately, I like really light "pinky" scents. But it's hard to beat Shalimar.

summer '08 is the only summer i am taking classes so i can catch up. but after that the other summers i'm using to intern so that way i can get my foot in the door at places i want to work... that's why it's going to take me forever. plus if i figured correctly including my freshman year i have to take around 350-400 credits to get my degree.
and i haven't even decided if i want to get my master's yet....
6-8 YEARS?
Hmmmmm...
