Just wondered if anyone watched Tempation Island tonight. My sisters and I couldnt tear ourselves away!

Its weird, cause i totally disagree with the shows premise, trying to break up committed couples, but i still watched it, and you better believe I will keep watching it!!

Any thoughts?

I watched it. I think I'll be watching it all season, but I don't like the premise of trying to break up committed couples either. It's like that show "Change of Heart"--it's like...if you're going to go on a show like that, chances are that person isn't THE ONE. Anyway...:::hopping off the soapbox:::

I couldn't watch Temptation Island. From the first time I saw the promos for it I was disgusted. I don't agree at all with what the show is about. I know a lot of people may/may not agree with me, but I think this kind of reality TV has gone too far. I don't think it'll be a tragedy if I boycott this show.

I'll be anticipating January 28th, when Survivor 2 premiers after the SuperBowl. Amber Brkich, an Alpha Gamma Delta alum from Westminster College, is a contestant vying for the pot. I'm not sure if any of the others are fellow Greeks. Amber was the only one who listed a GLO in her bio. Though MSNBC has lister her (and the 3 other young women) as "sitting ducks" I still feel that every one of then has a good shot at the pot. So, if you have time and you're not sick of reality TV, watch the show and cheer on your fellow Greek!

I watched it. I thought it was great. I don't know why though. I kind of felt bad for Billy at the end when they showed sceens from future episodes and his girl friend kissed some one already. Us Billy's have to stick together.

I felt pretty badly for Ytossie. I think she has a man who is somewhat predisposed to cheating. He has in the past, and seemed to be pretty open to (pardon the phrase) "trading up", if the opportunity should present itself. It is pretty terrible, as these two have a child! (Katie Couric on The Today Show said so this morning).

I see doom for Billy and Mandy. He is more committed to the relationship than she is (she's 22...so I don't think she is looking to "settle down" just yet).

For Kaya and Valerie, I think she is more committed to the relationship that he is. What's more, even though he is a 'model' by profession, I don't know...his face looked really artificially sculpted to me somehow.

No comments as of yet on the 4th couple....

Even though the concept is definitely exposing the dark side of human nature, I find it quite fascinating psychologically and sociologically.

One thing that I was thinking about regarding "Temptation Island" is that
the whole situation changes once you introduced alcohol into the mix.

Even the most committed, temptation-resistent person can falter when you throw booze into the mix, don't you think?

I watched the show with my girlfriend (DG) and even though we knew we were watching Jerry Springer TV we were glued. I agree the alcohol, has a lot to do with it. however I think it is mostly a chipping away of confidence. If your constantly being told by people that your significant other is out with other people and having a great time. Your going to start doubting. Then start acting on those doubts. However what was up with the one couple not wanting to send each other a message. What a slap in the face. Cool show. No way I would go on that island with my lady.

"In-Laws"...heh heh.

His father's a trip. He's a wonderful man, exactly like his son when it comes to personality--they're both funny, and at times, too much. He's a Boy Scout leader and likes the great outdoors, which would explain his collections of badges, nature stuff, and guns (I stayed away from those things).

He's also very generous, he took us out to dinner many times. Since we rarely get to see him he also paid for our skiing passes and Disneyland Passports. BTW, the new California theme park is awesome. We got a sneak peek at it when we went.

His mother flew in from Belgium (they've been divorced since he was 2) two days before we left LA and she is a talkative woman! She's also very nice, and she's always excited to talk about anything from Hawaii.

I had such a good time with his family and friends that I didn't want to leave...but now it's back to reality for me!

Speaking of reality, Mark Wahlberg (Temptation Island producer) was on Fox News this morning talking about the Taheed and Ytossie situation. He couldn't go into much detail about it, but he did say that they did do extensive background checks on each couple, but somehow the child situation must've been overlooked. He also said that the public finding out about this is not a big deal, since the objective of the show is not "who gets the pot of $$$". There's only 3 episodes left...I wonder what will happen next!

I also heard that Taheed and Ytossie were parents. Last week when I was in LA I heard it on the radio, and sure enough I heard about it again this morning.

Rumor has it that Taheed and Ytossie were forced to go into counseling to ensure that no harm was done for the sake of the (child?)children. I don't know, that's what the DJ said this morning. It makes sense though, because even if the couple was at a "crossroads" in their relationship, they carried more baggage than the other couples did. In my opinion, those two wanted to break up long ago-they just didn't because of the children, and the show was a means to see if it really was worth staying together.

I know that I had said earlier that I didn't want to watch the show--but I saw it for the first time last week--and I am hooked. I guess I can watch West Wing reruns this summer!

very good question. my initial instinct is that she was so distraught by all the events going on, not getting a video when she had finally broken down and sent him one, that she told that guy so that they could get the 'ol heave ho and end the nightmare. they had to sign a contract before going on the show to say they had no kids. she had to have known what she was doing. although, i do love the fact that instead of sending their butts home, they get to stay in a resort on the island to work out their obviously warped and damaged relationship....i hate the show. the premise is horrible and is all that is wrong with the world. but i am so hooked it's rediculous.

On one of my previous posts I mentioned that interview with Mark Wahlberg on Fox News. In that interview he had explained that people close to Ytossie and Taheed had given them information about their son (perhaps they didn't agree with what they were doing?). They did another background check (since it was obvious the first one didn't work) and it was true.

This is what I think--she told that guy about her son and Fox manipulated the footage to make it seem like the producers found out after she let the secret out of the bag. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's just what I think. I've seen too many reality shows manipulated to improve dramatic quality. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

My Arguementation (CA 210) class is doing a debate on "reality" based TV. So today, we had to watch Temptation Island. It made me sick! I couldn't believe it - I was emabarrased for those people. I was embarrased to be watching it. It really is very very disturbing.

I dont like what happened on the new Survivor last night. It looks like their trying to eliminate the strongest ones and keep the weaker people. I thought that one girl who a lot of people said bad thing about should have been booted. Or the girl who couldn't hold down what she ate. I agree. It seems like their basing it way too much these days on sex. Its all rating I guess.

Meagan did get screwed last night. All of the three guys dated her, but she wasnt picked for the last date. I think we all knew that Billy was going to go out with Vanessa, but Andy was putting on this show about how much he liked Meagan and had already talked to her about going on the last date together. Kaya i think wanted to go out with her as well, but because of Andy, he picked Allison. I dont really like Andy, and i think Shannon could do better. For example, TOM- that guy is a cutie and i really hope Shannon picks Tom for the last "romantic" date. I dont know who Mandy is going to pick, and I cant tell about Valerie either. You can really tell that Valerie is very much in love with her boyfriend because she hasnt really opened herself up with any of the guys and is always thinking about him when she goes out on the dates.

I agree- Kaya def. did not pick Meg just to save Andy's feelings and then I think Andy did not pick her because he knew how bad Meg wanted to go out with Kaya- did you catch the wink she gave Kaya when it was his turn to pick? I think Andy caught that too and to shove it in Megs face..did not pick her.

I did feel bad for Andy though- I don't think one girl picked him for their dream date.

I felt soooooo badly for Megan. I always knew that at least one single would end up screwed by this whole thing. Poor girl. She started bawling her eyes out. I felt so bad.
Was anyone esle waiting for Billy to punch out the camera guy?!? He was ticked.
It's kind of funny though. Billy was all gunho get-even stripper man. Now that it's getting down to the grind, he doesn't want to do anything that could hurt Mandy.
As for Andy, yah, that was kinda harsh. No one wanted him. But, no one really wanted Kaya either. It was pretty much all Billy.
I was kind of shocked that all the guys wanted Shannon. I thought she was kinda plain. Weird....
Anyhow, that's just my two cents. These next two weeks are gonna be BRUTAL. Although, it will pay off in the end with 2 full hours =)

Okay, here's my guess...Billy and Mandy...that's the toughie. I think they'll stick it through. I didn't, but I just have a feeling now that they will.
Kaya and Valerie...they're done. i think valerie is more devoted to and in love with kaya than he is to and with her. Shannon and Andy. I kindof have a feeling that Shannon is gonna think she's such hot #$%# because all the guys wanted her, and dump poor andy's butt (as if he needs that after the last episode's humiliation).
And Taheed and Ytosse. If those two stay together, this world is void of all logic and reason. They were doomed from day one. No amount of counselling is gonna help those two.

Yes, I see that I made a boo-boo and that there's one more episode to go.

My two cents:

Valeria and Andy are the biggest babies! She has not had fun on any of the dates and treats these guys worse than if they were total strangers on a street. Girl- at least try to fake a smile for the t.v. cameras.

Andy being a big baby for not getting his dream trip. He made me sick with his little tantrum.

Billy looked like he was going to have control. I am dying to know what they will do next week. Will they show video clips to each person showing what their other 1/2 did or just ask each of them if they have had a change of heart. If they don't show any film- then I can see all of them staying with their orignal mate (until, of course, they are seeing it on tv now!)

Here's what I think I've figured out, cause it seems like we all made the same mistake in thinking that this week was gonnna be the showing of the last two episodes. LAST week, when it was Valentine's day, they showed the first two episodes, ie. two hours, back to back episodes. I think the announcer said that in the same breath as discussing that the show would return the following week. So all of our brains managed to think that it was gonna be the final two episodes this week.
Either that, or the announcer messed up. Cause everyone seems to have made the same mistake.
At least, that's what i think.
And, btw, I stand corrected on the Ytosse and Taheed thing. I'm shocked tho. And really, I think it was done to look good for the cameras. I find it hard to believe that those two kids are gonna last long.
And Valerie is gonna get a rude awakening next week. Poor girl. She should have enjoyed her dates more. Poor Dano!

They showed two episodes back to back on valentine's day?! Man, here in Chicago, we got a Barbra Streisand concert. As for Andy, he is a total baby, he was upset because Kaya picked the girl he wanted to date and also the trip. Get a life! I can see Shannon leaving him after the show. Valerie was the most boring date ihave seen. When she was with Evan, she showed no interest in what they were doing, but Kaya was living it up! Then on the final date with Dano, she kept bringing up Kaya! That is a total blow to your ego! But did you see the look of hurt on Jonny's face when Mandy picked Jon instead? I felt so bad for him. I surely would have picked him and had a few body shots on him myself. One of the funny things were Mandy saying "am I going to hell?" as the show ended, and we hear Billy say the same thing in the previews for the final show.

OK, this is my prediction...

Billy and Mandy will stay together, because even though I think Mandy slept with the surfer dude, when she sees Billy, she'll be back to being in love. Most of what she does I think is for the camera.

If Shannon doesn't break up with Andy, she should get a check up from the neck up, because he is the biggest loser. What a whiny little baby...and not as cute as Tom. I think Shannon was the coolest of all of them. I hope she and Tom end up together.

Valerie and Kaya...well, who knows, but Valerie ruined the show last week and that poor Danno's time by acting like a baby and crying through the dream date. I felt so bad for that guy. Billy & Mandy: I do think they'll stay together. They have both been tempted (and fallen), as one would expect when you have the chance to date nubile and hunky guys and gals. Valerie & Kaya: Valerie is one of those folks who has gotten into a situation in which she clearly wishes she could extract herself. Soon after she arrived, it seems she knew this temptation thingie was a mistake for her relationship. I agree with all others that Kaya doesn't seem nearly as committed to this gig as she, and so she gambled the dice to get a free vacation, but may have crapped out this time. If Kaya sticks it out with Valerie, it would be because he feels sorry for her. If Valerie sticks it out with Kaya (based upon the previews), she's desperate.

It seemed to have a happy ending afterall and that is really all that matters! There were a few times when i was about to cry during the bonfire. Especially at the end with Valerie and Kaya, i really felt for them!!!

Ok, last night's episode of Temptation Island was soooo good! My roommate and I were like crying--we were sooo happy everyone stayed together. The things that the guys said to the girls and vice versa were tooo sweet! I wish I could find a guy like that.
