That shows that they're empowered and take the MAN out of WOMAN...

Or just silly considering they call themselves PHINE all the time...

Woops! Didn't check my own forum before I started posting. :o Thanks for the tip, EvianLove. FYI, we've never had a colony at Berkeley.

Ladies, do not feel too bad or alone in this.
SAE has a very similar problem with a group overseas.:) :(

Hello sisters of Theta Nu Xi,

I am not a member of your sorority but I would like to bring to your attention a copycat sorority who has the same colors, animal, name on my campus. I also found out that they used to be a former colony and made a new sorority modeled after yours.

Here is their website www.phinuxi.5u.com (http://www.phinuxi.5u.com)

Sincerely,

Student at UC Berkeley

Just wondering how you noticed it...

Aww, y'all... a photo was just brought to my attention. Apparently it's not just Theta Nu Xi that these women don't know about. They must not be taught Greek etiquette at all. Check out this picture from the Delta Class:

What's the one in the back doing????? Come on, ladies.

The girl on the front right looks frighteningly familiar however that's just because she looks like one of my sisters :) (who's way too smart to get involved in something like this)

I feel all your pain..

When you originate something great, others can't help but to duplicate..

Remember.. "imitation is the greatest form of flatery"

That's why I chose to be part of the FIRST Latinos Down... not some cheap Lambda wanna-be imitators...

Actually Lambda Tau Omega does the same thing ( http://www.lambdawomyn.org/herstory.htm ). I think it's kind of interesting. But anyway, LTO has been doing that for AGES so I wouldn't suggest for a moment that my org does it.

The copycat thing is annoying; but I guess they just admire these other orgs so much. Oh well is all I can say really... :o

Symbol:Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

taken from: http://www.thetanuxi.org/who_facts.htm

Its still different from just saying the mascot is simply a butterfly.

Honestly, if you take a long, hard look the only super noticable similarity is the symbols. Please look at the values of both sororities.

Theta Nu Xi:
To incorporate separate cultures into one life
To build self-esteem through sisterhood
To participate in service activities, especially those concerning diversity in the community
To encourage academic excellence and overall self-improvement
To promote unity among Greek organizationsPhi Nu Xi:

Multiculturalism which goes beyond recognizing the plurality of race
Social bonding
Academic excellence
Promote Dialogue which helps facilitate understanding and growth
Womyn Empowerment
Leadership
political awarenessNot to nitpick and sound snyde......but I see two huge difference right off the bat. Phi Nu Xi is very focused on developing leaders and promoting political awareness among the sisters. Many are very involved in different areas on campus that allow them to participates in political forums and may even organize rallies for various causes which include worker rights and for the cause of a multicultural center at UC Berkeley. Political awareness is very important to Phi Nu Xi and it really defines us as a sisterhood.

Is that the same for theta nu xi? If not, then it doesn't seem like we're the same. Many sisters also work for recruitment and retention centers on campus. That takes political awareness along with multiculturalism to a new level. I'm doing work for NARRC next semester which is the native american recruitment and retention, another works for Bridges, another for Raza which is a chicano/latino recruitment and retention center another works for the BRRC which is the black recruitment and retention center and others work for Let's Rise. We bring all the different cultures into our sisterhood and we learn from each other and lean on each other for support in our different communities. We don't just say we're multicultural and put on events....we are multicultural. We live and breath it honestly.

Does Theta Nu Xi do that? Again I don't want to be rude because I'm simply trying to point out honest differences.

If you want to be super anal, I could point out that many sororities sound similar....at least to me. Many have the tenet of sisterhood, many have the tenet of academic excellence which is why there are gpa requirements, and all have service aspects. The only thing that I'm noticing that makes theta nu xi different from a panhellenic is the multicultural aspect.

Why are we worrying about simple similarities when we should all support each other anyways? What's the use of tearing everyone down around you? Does it make you better? More important? I'm sorry but it doesn't. There are far more important things in the world then worrying about another organization which is, I'm sorry to say, different from you.

why on earth would you call another organization "hoes?" That's really uncalled for and extremely unclassy. Have you thought of speaking to any sister instead of assuming someone is biting your "style?"

Second, your founders are thieves.

Is that the same for theta nu xi?
Yep. One of our current board members was key to the early development of our political understanding and action. She is now the Deputy Director for a state democratic caucus. She lives it.

Many sisters also work for recruitment and retention centers on campus. That takes political awareness along with multiculturalism to a new level. Yep. Theta Nu Xi is a sorority of action. We are social in the sense that we are a general/social sorority, but our focuses are scholarship, service, sisterhood, leadership and multiculturalism.

We bring all the different cultures into our sisterhood and we learn from each other and lean on each other for support in our different communities

We don't just say we're multicultural and put on events....we are multicultural. We live and breath it honestly.

In what way have you seen Theta Nu Xi - or any other multicultural sorority - only "say" we are multicultural and not "live and breath [sic] it"?

The only thing that I'm noticing that makes theta nu xi different from a panhellenic is the multicultural aspect.
And this observation is from your experience with Theta Women?

Have you thought of speaking to any sister instead of assuming someone is biting your "style?"
No assumptions. And, by the way, do you even know your organization's true history?

I'm so glad I'm not a member of theta nu xi. It seems like all you girls (notice I said girls) care about is "omg biters omg." seriously worry about your own organization because it doesn't seem like you do anything but belittle people and bitch about how your sorority is being copied when you sound like any other panhellenic yourselves. I can name countless sororities who name academic excellence, sisterhood and service as their tenets. Who did you rip off?

Yes, I do know the entire history of my organization and no our founding mothers are not thieves. Perhaps they are merely improving an idea of a multicultural sorority.

*sigh* it seems that you have nothing better to do with your time then complain and nothing constructive to say. Know what that makes you? Hoes. You girls are the hoes.

While we are not an NPC sorority (and generally do not operate like one as I know you know), I'm certain that NPC sororities do not appreciate the implication you've made that they are some sort of generic form of Greek Life. Learn some Greek history before you make dismissive comments about NPCs.

Yes, I do know the entire history of my organization...
You sure?

There seems to be a lack of knowledge about the Greekdom in this group, so I'm not surprised that it didn't dawn on her that a name like Senusret is likely an Alpha.
