Any thoughts on ***** as the new president? After the publicity when Summers left, the school kept the presidential search relatively low-profile.

ETA: apparently her name isn't allowed on GC.

Ummm...why can't we post her name? It's easy to find if you hit yahoo news or any other news site? What's the deal?

Good deal.. so they finally found someone who will do as the professors there dictate.

I'm surprised that they didn't select a scientist...whatever Larry Summers said aside, the Ivies have been pumping MAJOR money into the life sciences.

There was an interesting article in the Times in December about the presidential search...apparently, it was known that Harvard was going to pick a woman (they had tapped the presidents of Brown, Princeton, and Penn), and they were certainly going to pick someone from the inside (the dean of HLS was on the short list too). They kept it under wraps for a long time, which considering, is great.

I'm also sure that Derek Bok is ready to go back into retirement.

I didn't think she was a scientist - isn't she a Civil War historian?

No biggie, I'm apparently posting dirty words on GC.

I was surprised too, I thought for sure they'd go for someone from the scientific community.

Here's a brief write-up of Dr. F-a-u-s-t. Put her last name in where there are asterisks.
