Greetings all sorors, sisterfriends, visitors, and brothers! I was wondering if you would mind leaving some info about your organizations' founding day and date!

I am a member of Alpha Sigma sorority, which is out of the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. We were founded on October 14th, 1898. We are also the oldest sorority in Wisconsin http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I am a member of the second OU chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies (yes, the whole title is our name http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ) We were founded at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities Campus) on May 1, 1989, which is most appropriate: May Day, a day to celebrate friendship. If I can ask a related question...

My local service sorority used to be a little sister organization of a national frat. When the little sisters were disbanded on the national level, our girls decided to form a new group. We always celebrate our founder's day based on when the little sisters were disbanded. We're nearing our ten year anniversary, and we're not sure if we should celebrate 10 years from when the little sisters were disbanded, or 10 years from when we received our charter from the university recognizing us as an official org.

So what do other organizations consider their founding date?

I'm very proud to say that the Emerson College chapter of Kappa Gamma Chi was founded on Janurary 13, 1902... We are 100 years old this month!! :D

I know that for us, Sigma Chi Delta, we have two dates...the one that we call Founders Day which is when we declared our letters (April 14, 1991). The other is when the CAOC gave us our charter, which was on May 12, 1991. We don't celebrate this, but we try to have our formal as close to the date as Founders Day as possible. I hope this helps!

Being a member of a local fraternity with over 131 years of history and tradition, there are several founding dates of importance:

The Delphic Fraternity's alpha chapter was founded on Oct. 13, 1871 -

The Zeta Chapter of Delphic, which I am a member of, was founded on Oct. 28, 1899 -

And our re-establishing date as Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity, Inc. is Mar. 13, 1987.

Sigma Alpha is not a local sorority. It was found in 1978 but now we have around 30 chapters across the nation and an organized national board. If you would like an more information please check our website www.sigmaalpha.org

You know what, this has officially gotten on my nerves. I'm a Gamma Phi Beta from UW-Platteville and I did summer session at Whitewater this summer. You aren't the oldest sorority in Wisconsin - we are. We were founded in November of 1867, the year after our college was founded, and have been going strong ever since, we just went national along the way. :)

Not to mention there have been sororities at UW-Madison since 1875.

And it's not even Wisconsin's oldest local sorority, as Beloit College's Theta Pi Gamma was founded in 1896. Of course, they weren't recognized by the university until 1908, but they were still founded earlier.

I have a feeling that this may be one of those "firsts" with lots of modifiers, like, "We're the first local sorority in Wisconsin that has stayed local throughout its entire existence."

Still, 105 years is an awfully long time for any sorority, and should be congratulated.

prdlocal -- your sorority and my chapter were founded in the same year. :) 1898 represent.

Kappa Lambda Psi was founded on April 28, 1980 at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in Glassboro, NJ. We are now 5 chapters strong!!!

Remember, you are never a former member of your sorority unless you disaffiliated completely. Local or national, you are still a sister of AGG!

[COLOR=royalblue] hey- well nu sigma chi was founded in november of 1928- and our house was built the next year- we just celebrated our seventy-fifth aniversary! We started to die out- but two pledge classes combined provided 16 n.m's and we're hopefully on our way to big numbers again:)

This local girl founded the local sorority known as Alpha Lambda Chi at the University of Texas at Dallas on February 8th 2003. So we're just babies. But we already have a constitution, bylaws, creed, coat of arms, our first rush, (so there's an alpha and beta class), and excellent ties with Panhellenic. We want to go national very soon. So here's to Alpha Lambda Chi THE TRUE REPRESENTATION OF A WOMAN!

I don't know why we didn't go national. We are doing just fine being local. It's been mentioned. There's just so much history tied into our school though. I'm not sure more chapters would be quite the same.

Non Compis Mentis (or Not of Sound Mind) was founded on October 23rd, 1970 at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida when we broke away from our national ties with Pi Beta Phi! Now 33 years later, the Pi Phi's are long since gone and NCM is still standing proud!

Pi Kappa Alpha was founded at the University of Virginia, March 1st 1868. The Epsilon Omega Chapter of East Central University, in Ada, Oklahoma was founded in 1963. I was a founding father of the Lambda Iota chapter at the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond Oklahoma. It was chartered on April 13th 2002. A very exciting day that will always be special to me. I love this fraternity. which i am sure you feel the same towards yours. good luck greeks in all that you do.

My fraternity, Gamma Beta Lambda, was founded in October 1963, in Ontario, Canada. Our first regional chapter was opened in 1974 in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada.
We are currently in the process of opening a chapter at the University of British Columbia.

I'm kinda sad. yes we were founded in Fall of 1990 but we don't know the founding DATE. It seems like a majority at least have that on record. But for as long as I have been a chi delt, no one knows the exact date. Do you think the student activities office would have records that go back that far? I don't think our alumna would remember that far back. :(

Do you have a list of your alumnae? Do you ever do mailings like an alumnae newsletter? If you do, then your best bet is to put something asking about it in there because some of the older girls or the founders would know. The school might not have this on file, because it would have the date when Chi Delta was chartered as a club at your school, not the date that it was founded, which are two different dates. Hope this helps. Good luck on finding it out!
