NEW YORK (Jan. 20) - Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton embarked on a widely anticipated campaign for the White House on Saturday, a former first lady intent on becoming the first female president. "I'm in and I'm in to win," she said on her Web site.
http://news.aol.com/elections/president/story/_a/clinton-to-enter-presidential-race/20070120081509990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001

I'm in. And I'm in to win.
Today I am announcing that I will form an exploratory committee to run for president.
And I want you to join me not just for the campaign but for a conversation about the future of our country -- about the bold but practical changes we need to overcome six years of Bush administration failures.
I am going to take this conversation directly to the people of America, and I'm starting by inviting all of you to join me in a series of web chats over the next few days.
The stakes will be high when America chooses a new president in 2008.
As a senator, I will spend two years doing everything in my power to limit the damage George W. Bush can do. But only a new president will be able to undo Bush's mistakes and restore our hope and optimism.

I'm glad Hillary's running. She certainly is knowledgeable about what she would need to do. I would really like to see a woman in the Oval office in my lifetime, but I won't vote for her just because she's a woman. I'll decide that further down the line.

Hillary tends to bring out love-hate feelings from most people. With such polarized feelings from voters I wonder how she will do. Personally, I like her, and I hope she does well.

My, my, my Hillary the "hellraiser" in law school.....has developed such a clever name for her funding people....

"HILLRAISERS".....just a note of humor in the beginning of a very interesting political race...oh, and one that for the first time in 70 years in our country...is without either a presidential or vice presidential incumbent!!! "And they are off and running........."

Hill is super polarizing. Love or hate is exactly right. I personally think she is far to divisive to win in the general election. She's just so cold and calculating and people know it. Obama has a much better chance of winning red states...all Hill will do is pull the democratic primary to the left I think...

She is not on my priority list to vote for!

Hell, she moved to N Y as a reverse carpetbagger from Ak. and gets elected in N Y!

Amazing how soon people forget the law suits and investigations from Arkansas when Bill was Gov. Before and after.

Tom; one would have to wonder what would have happened to Bush if he had not taken over all three branches of government? Heck, right before the past election, operatives were telling the right wing to go out and vote if they did not wish the next two years to be spent on investigations and law suits.

Seems as if some people think what is good for the goose is not good for the gander:) ;)

Just where is Mr. Star?

And now back the the thread.

Out of the 24 some odd people who are running, just who is on your list?

A ticket of Clinton and Obama.

Are the Democrats that brave?

Could be an interesting year...

My thoughts exactly.

And people actually would tell me that she would never run this go around - riiiigggghhhhtttt... that's why she had already raised millions and millions of dollars for an (thus far) uncontested & incumbent senate seat race.

Tom, you're right about the Arky investigations. The drug running, Rose law firm, those kids getting killed...I don't know how dirty the Clinton's were in those things, but I think at the least they were guilty of being involved with some extremely seedy personalities.

what kids getting killed?

I suffer from Clinton Derangement Syndrome and am always pretty willing to believe the worst about them, but I didn't know what you were referring to here.

Its something about some boys who came across something in the drug running they shouldn't have and ended up dead. Somebody made a documentary on the whole thing that was pretty informative, i'll see if i can find it...

Edit: I found this link about the whole Mena thing. Its mostly wild conspiracy, but the basic connections are in it. I don't buy much about any CIA involvement and what not, but basically there were some connections among Clinton, people involved in the drug trade, the Rose firm, etc...The whole situation then was extremely shady, and while I certainly don't think Clinton was running drugs through the state and killing off teens, I think there's a strong chance he knew people who were, and didn't do much about it. We'll never know now, but if you come across some of the less-conspiracy theory type articles and interviews, its pretty interesting stuff. http://www.wealth4freedom.com/truth/13/Mena.htm

Just the hypocrisy was enough to drive me crazy: talking about equality and justice while personally profiting from shady business deals and hiding documents and testimony; talking a lot about feminism with being a womanizing bastard or staying with a womanizing bastard.

Just so no one gets the wrong idea: I'm not particularly a Bush fan, but for some reason Clinton just makes me crazy. For some people, the opposite is true.

I recognize my failure to be rational, and appeal to others to do the same.

I have a love/hate relationship with Hill. She's a waffler at best. At worst--I'm just not sure.

Hillary is an elder stateswoman with a ton of skeletons in her closet, Obama is a relatively clean slate. If Hillary does win the primary, she's going to be a very iffy candidate going into the general. Obama on the other hand, should he get past the primary, he has a great shot.

I disagree on Obama. I mean, i think he's probably a good guy and a good potential candidate, but the vetting process hasn't really started yet. I don't think he can win at this point.

As a Democrat, I hope we find someone other than Hillary Clinton to carry the party's nomination. She is a polarizing figure, and ability to win aside, that is not what the country needs right now -- we've had enough of polarizing presidents lately.

I'm also not sure that I like the idea of the "first spouse" being a former president -- just seems too frought with potential problems to me. I voted for Clinton and liked him as president -- didn't always like his personal choices but at least we didn't have a huge budget deficit for a while. But I'm not sure I like the idea of him as "First Gentleman."

Besides, by the time the election is held, there will only have been two families in the White House for 20 years -- the Bushes and the Clintons. Do we really want to make that 24 (or 28) years? I think we need some new blood. Now if some blood would just come along that I could get excited about.

Should Hillary win the Democratic primary, I'll be forced to vote republic. Live in my state for more than 5 minutes and pay taxes to my state before you're going to call yourself a New Yorker and are going to run in one of our elections.

OK, I was going to post a pic of someone vomiting but they're all too graphic.

If the Dems even think about asking Obama to be VP to Hillary, I hope he tells them to go shit in their hat.

I think the democrats are feeling frisky after dominating the recent elections.

As much as I hate to say this, I really do not think America can handle a female president or a president who is not entirely white. There are still WAY too many racist/sexist people who will stop either canidate from entering the white house. Although I would personally love to see someone outside of the typical middle-aged white man as our president, I don't think it will happen until much later in my life.

How sad.
