Congrats! I was actually just looking at where we were dormant and thinking it would be great to come back at tOSU. I'm glad to see that someone is getting that chance. Good luck! :D (Maybe in a few years we'll be able to join you.)

In response to IvySpice:
This is all very recent. Their numbers had been dropping severely over the past couple years, so from my information, they gave the remaining girls alumni status and are starting the chapter over. They aren't participating in formal recruitment but will pick it up again in the spring.
I really wish them the best of luck-- the Alpha Gams I know are some of the sweetest girls! :)

So have the remaining girls graduated or will they still be on campus as alums while the chapter starts over? I think that would be really hard on the women who were made alums even while they are undergrad.

Most are graduating in May and will be on campus as alums for the one semester. Our International Officers are working with them very closely to get an active Junior Circle in the area (alumnae club for women under 35) and getting them involved as very active alumnae members. They ARE sweet girls and they've worked incredibly hard and are very valued members of our Fraternity. It's not the best collegiate experience to be in a struggling chapter, so hopefully their alumnae experience will be good.

I don't think they actually closed the chapter. They didn't participate in formal in the fall, and they gave all the girls alumnae status and just now started the recolonization. I'm an Alpha Gam at the University of Michigan, and we tailgated with our sisters there for the OSU/U of M game in the fall. :)

My sorority sister's younger sister goes to OSU and she joined Alpha Gam at recruitment this January. She absolutely LOVES the chapter and her new sisters! Everytime she calls her sister she has something great to say about her awesome new sorority. Good job ladies!

Congrats!
Funny how we have two threads at the same time showing the right and wrong ways to do a re-organization. THIS would be the right way....:D

Congrats to AGD! Scary how much national exposure the other one got. Jay Leno even hit on it in his monologue (something about the girls who got kicked out started their own sorority, Delta Delta Burke) Dumb!

Especially since the whole Delta Burke brouhaha was like 15 years ago and half the audience probably doesn't know/remember what he was talking about.

And, this is also why I have some empathy for the DZ folks. We have had this type of reorganization at both our U of Mich chapter (Alpha Beta... actually a recolonization) and Ohio State (Alpha Lambda chapter). We have big houses at each that have to maintained and closing completely would be a real hardship. We are dealing with that at our Chi chapter (Michigan State) and our Alpha chapter (Syracuse) and possibly others that I'm not aware of. If the administration at either campus had told us we could NOT reorganize/recolonize, I'm not sure what we would have been able to do. I spent the weekend with two International Council members right before they were going to Ohio State to tell the chapter what was going to happen and they were just heartsick about it. It isn't as though it's an easy thing or happy thing to do. It's probably the worst part of being an International officer. They did go out of their way to meet with the women and let them know that they were valued members of our Fraternity and instantly gave them ways to remain involved as alumnae. The members were very tired from constantly trying to recruit for years and didn't have a great collegiate experience because of it.
Some of those women could have become angry and went to the press and said all kinds of things about why they were made alumnae though. And it could have blown up like the DZ situation did. Maybe our officers handled it really well..maybe the women were more understanding of the situation.. maybe it was pure luck. The DZ HQs have sent out a letter saying that they really regret notifying the women by letter instead of in person. Perhaps it could have been averted if they had handled that part of it differently. But, perhaps it wouldn't have.
