My fellow Teke's - if you want to learn how to get the best guys for your chapter before the others even have a chance to talk to them, then consider Summer Rush. You can rush either on campus during the summer, or rush them in your hometown. Need more details? Feel free to email me. I assisted Iowa State (Epsilon) last year, and have visited over 130 chapters, so trust me, ok?

Frater O'neal is right, we rush in the spring, and the summer, and by fall we get almost everyone we wanted, we went from 17 actives when I pledged in Spring 2000 to around 50 this spring, hopefully this fall we will get around 30 pledges, and we will be Pound for pound one of the strongest TKE chapters in the Nation. Another thing that really helped our rush, was having orientation Leaders, these are the first guys people meet on campus. Plus we get around five or so Fraters to show up to the Orientation socials, and we rush our asses off.............Thanks for representing the Cajun provence O'neal, and come visit us anytime..........Blaise on the bayou

We are in the process of scheduling Rush Coaches to any Teke Chapter in the nation who needs assistance either now, or next Spring.
The earliest your reply with a request for a special visit, the more likely your request will be granted on those dates you specify.
This is a free service, and all Rush Coaches have been specially trained to help in this area.
Let me know.

I'm confused.
-tilts her head-
Rush Coaches?
What they come in and teach you how to be nice to people? How to be yourself? Or how to be fake?
I can totally understand how...it would be nice to know what to say and what not to say...we even have Rush workshops...but to have somebody to come in and teach you how to Rush guys? Maybe because I'm a sorority I see things differently?
Or maybe I'm just being clueless.
Something sounds fishy.

Rush coaches are real, devajeva. TKE does have them to help hurting chapters recruit new members.

What exactly do they do?
And, you can call me jess, and I wasn't at all disputing the fact that they were real..I just don't understand the concept. What does the Rush coach teach the actives to do?
Are there special tecniques?

Just give good tips on whats known to work to get good quality men to join up. Some of them might even be there during rush to help out and point out what the chapter is doing wrong.

Yeah...our chapter needs some serious help in the area of ppl learning to work together, and use each other's ideas. I think if we could get all the guys together, and actually fired up about the fraternity, we'd go a LONG way. Problem is, everyone has excuses as to why they don't come to events....don't come to chapter...don't call everyone when somethin's goin on :(

Well just talk to your chapter and T Rod O'Neal and maybe you guys can have another awesome rush like you did last spring.

Well...last spring was kinda the result of Buckwheat comin down. This year the rush chair did a good job plannin everything, but only 2 of us actively got more than 1 person to attend any of the events. It kinda sucked, cuz everyone was like "yeah, lets get more people there" but only myself and one other guy did anything about it, and none of the actives would interact with the rushees. Was really stupid, and nobody seemed to care when i brought these things up....

Well maybe the rush coachs can get you guys motivated.

Jess,
Although TKE calls them Rush Coaches, almost all Fraternities and Sororities have them. How do I know this? I used to work for Tri Delta as their Recruitment Coordinator for their Headquarters and for Tri Sigma I am the National Recruitment (Rush) Coordinator for the West Region. Every F or S is different in how they handle this, but Recruitment Coordinators can do a world of good.
Men and women need reminders on how to attract people. It's not just how to act or what to do, it's mainly where to find the men to fill your fraternity. Rush coaches can help them to devise a plan and carry that plan out. They can reach out to alumni for help as well effectively. They remind men, and for summer they can always use the help on where to find membership (since I'm on a roll...listen up men).
Summer Rush: Talk to your University, can you get the names of the National Merit Scholars. Go to Boy Scout troops in your area. Does your old HS have Kays? What about National Honor Society, sports teams (coaches would give you time to chat), STUCO? If you're near one, check with the FFA, or FBLA. Do a letter campaign to HS Counselors. Come on....where did you hang out in high school?
Now what, you've contacted these men....invite them to something! It's that easy. A baseball game, pool party, dinner with parents, whatever. You all know what guys like...
I'm a huge TKE supporter (and pretty much married to a GPA), so I want to see the 25% campaign in full effect. So get to it!!!!

I agree TKEmz894 I am a summer Orientation leader at Sam Houston State.I can tell them I am greek but not which fraternity I am in, But I have met a lot of great guys and I have a feeling that this will help with fall formal rush. I will keep you updated on our rush results in mid Sept.

There are even schools who forbid/frown on summer rush, like the
dummies at U of CO...and the anti-Greek folks smile as they have
denied the young matriculates...well, you know.
The Pelican Boys...i.e., T. Rod & Bobby Jarred are well worth the
time. We have had them out here in the rockies and they are much-loved. And YOU BET other greeks have 'em...they sure do!
And for those slackers who do not show up when you have a good chance to learn from those hardened-combat vet fraters....
well, on the outside world...that behaviour..
would get your ass fired.
T Rod, Bobby, others, are here to help. Get smart. Why is TKE sucking hind tit as regards average chapter size? Think...
The Pelican boys from Louisiana would be a good start for a trip
you will remember all the rest of your (long) lives....

I completely agree with the importance of summer rush. At my chapter (Beta Rho) we rush all year round, i reccomend getting people in your chapters on the orientation staff as they have first crack at nearly all incoming freshmen, and they also tend to leave the greatest impression on them. This year this strategy is working even better than usual and we already have roughly 19 guys locked down that we will probaly sign before the fall even begins, plus, you have to figure if you sign some guys during the summer they will do a lot of the work that's left by bringing over even more guys once the fall starts.

we just got done with our Triangle Achievement Program banquet and we already have one incoming freshman signing a contract to move into the house.
I love summer rush, especially since we implemented the TAP. I highly recommend it to every chapter
