That's awesome!!!! Congrats! Our spring pledges will be initiated on April 7th. Do you initiate your pledges before sunrise too?? I was just wondering if that was a National thing or what.

Before sunrise? Oh my gosh! It must be your chapter! None of the ones I worked with ever did that--good thing because I would've never made it!

Wow... you must have to wake up really early to initiate everyone by sunrise, but that sounds really neat.

I did pre-sunrise initiation too. I am not a morning person AT ALL so I didn't remember any of the stuff you're supposed to know after going through initiation. I had to ask someone later. I was so embarassed.

Hmmm... My Pi Phi initiation was at a more civilized (daylight) hour, but the local I belonged to before we affiliated with Pi Beta Phi initiated at dawn. That was almost 17 years ago, and I'm yawning just thinking about it...

Our initiation for the past spring was really neat... we had to be at our 'initiation locale' at around 5... so we were all initiated before dawn... it was tiring, but really special.

I don't know if this a national rule or not, but our chapter used to do "pre-dawn" initiation but we aren't allowed to do it anymore because it is considered hazing. This is not to scold anyone, I just thought I'd let you all know just incase. Maybe someone else knows if this is our national rule, a panhellenic rule, or maybe it's just unique to my school.

I don't think it's a national rule. My chapter has a zero tolerance policy for hazing and I've seen girls get in trouble for some things that I thought were just plain silly. But we have a relatively new house and if we get caught doing anything resembling hazing we risk losing it. I don't think the pre-dawn thing would continue if nationals had called it hazing.

We start initiation in the pre-dawn hours. (It has been many years, I assume MS Alpha still does).

PiPhiGirl is absolutely right - Pre-dawn Initiations ARE considered hazing and Pi Phi prohibits chapters from conducting them. It is definitely a situation to consult your AAC members and Province President about to make sure your chapter is within the guidelines.

Jess,
Enjoy tomorrow! Initiation was and still is the highlight of my Pi Phi experiece. It goes by so fast for something that you wait so long for!
I'm heading up to our chapter's initiation on the 23rd and even though I go each year its still as special as the first time. (plus I'm on AAC and I advise our VP Social so I'm always excited to meet our new actives!!)
Becca, I hope that your initiation was everything you hoped it would be!

I'm so fired up about y'all becoming sisters! The night before my initiation, a sister told me that I would feel so special during my initiation. She was right and I can remember it like it was yesterday.
May that feeling stay with you the rest of your lives too.

As I write this I am still wearing my whites and my golden arrow over my heart. Initiation was so beautiful, although my chapter president talks really fast when she gets nervous... so I think I missed half of what was said

Welcome fully into our bonds, nucutiepie! Don't worry about missing half of what was said. When you take part in initiation as an active, you'll get to hear it plenty of times. The first time you help initiate new members is a powerful experience, too. I think that's when you finally realize what an amazing unbroken chain we've formed since 1867. We all share that connection.
And now you can finally WEAR OUR LETTERS! (And now you know exactly why you couldn't before!) Bet I know what you'll be wearing to class on Monday.

I went through initiation earlier today, and it was beautiful! I loved it so much and feel so honored to be a part of something so wonderful. I am wearing my letters for the first time and am really proud to be wearing them! I can't wait for our sisterhood activity tonight, we're painting pottery at this place called Kiln Creations! :D

Congratulations and welcome, Jess! It feels great putting on that letter sweatshirt for the first time, doesn't it? The beauty of our initiation ceremony can't be put into words, and now you know. When you go to class Monday, you'll just have to be dripping in Pi Beta Phi stuff. You've earned the right to wear our letters.

Initiation is truly beautiful, and I swear each time I go through it I love it even more. I remember being initiatied and not fully understanding what everything meant, but today I think it really hit me. The ideals upon which we were founded are truly special and unique, and as Pi Phi's we are truly blessed to be a part of such a wonderful sisterhood. So to all of the new initiates: wear your arrow and letters proudly and enjoy your first chapter!
Pi Phi Love and Mine,
Erin
PS I have to say that I'm really bumming right now. No more weekly pledge meetings. ;)

Like most chapters, we don't let our new members wear our letters until initiation...I think it makes it that much more special when you understand the meaning behind them.
This Christmas I made my sister her first set of letters (she never got them from her big) and it was so great to see her wear them...now if I could only get the iron-on transfer stuff off my carpet I'd be set!

Other houses on our campus gave their pledges their letters on bid day! I couldn't imagine that, I love knowing that I earned my letters and that I fully understand the meanings of Pi Beta Phi. I'm glad our house does it this way, and I miss the weekly pledge meetings too! Congratulations on being a Rho Chi Erin! :D

Welcome to all my new sisters!
I just finished running my first initiation (It's my first term as secretary) and I have to say, initiations is a ceremony that never loses its beauty. Everytime we do one, it just brings our chapter closer together, and reminds us again of why we all are pi phis.
Congratulations to all the new initiates, welcome to the bonds of wine and blue.

I am soo glad to see how excited everyone is about being initiated, and going through it again and again. I remember how nervous I was, and the beauty of the whole situation still brings tears to my eyes. My little sister is being initiated this weekend, thurs-sat, and I just finished making her a pair of letters. She is soo extremely excited, and before she found out it was me, we decided to live together next year!! I cant wait until she can join our bonds of sisterhood too!!
Also, I am not sure if you can post it, but what does PPL mean, is that your chapter thing, or maybe just something that I missed, it could be that I am just not quite thinking straight this morning. If you could just email me or post it (if you can) that would be great- my email is at aol.com Thanks

PPL means Pi Phi Love. It's nothing super secret. It's just an ending that I always use. :)
