Hey Jamie,
I could email you with this info, but I am already on the site. Two of my really close sisters are going to LTS (one's my little)...you could probably hook-up with them, if you want. Anyway, I know that it's a lot of fun for everyone who attends. You learn a lot, and come home with tons of ideas. I think that's where we got our idea of the crab raffle. Anyway, I will talk to you soon. Enjoy your summer!

Hey Angel, you are such a lucky girl! You'll love LTS...but they really mean it when they say bring a sweater...the hotel is freezing. I've been fortunate enought to go to the last 2 conclaves, and LTS is way more fun than convention. While there look for your Canadian sisters...we love meeting new sisters.

have fun http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I have been to both LTS and Convention....they are both a wonderful experience and also alot of fun. There are so many sisters and you can just feel how everyone is there to better their chapter. I must admit there are alot of talks ect- and some get boring especially if you are an older member and it is all review....but over all it if fab!!! You will have a blast. Let's remember that we are not the only ones that look at our message boards other GLOs have acess to them too. I'm not sure if LITP and PSLAM are Phi Sig Serets or not but I do know that I had to be a sister before I was told what LITP stood for. I think It's great that we share this info with eachother but at the same time maybe we should be aware of what we should and should not discuss on GC.;)

I don't think LITP and PSLAM are Phi Sig Secrets. Our DCP signed things LITP and LIOB almost as soon as we colonized. And when we were getting things from the expansion team they also had that signature on it.

HI All,

I went to LTS in 2001 as a delegate and Convention in 2002 as just a collegiate paying her own way. Both are a lot of fun although Convention is more formal since that is where they vote on Supreme Council and any constitutional changes.

LTS will be back in New Brunswick, NJ a short train ride from NY so if you can afford it pay for a room a day or two ahead of time and spend time taking the train to NY. All the West Coast and Canadian Chapters arrive on Wednesday so while everyone was checking on in Thursday we got up at 4:30 a.m. to catch the train to NY. Spent about 5 hours there and then took the train back in time for opening session.

It's great getting to meet a ton of sisters and all having a common bond of Phi Sig. Being a newly installed chapter at the time I learned a lot about traditions that long established chapters had. There were definitely lots of talks as someone said, some on new things others just refreshers. We did a walk for the NKF along the river near the hotel. Did a philanthropic/recruitment activity. Had a Foundation Dinner and Raffle and the next night the Awards Banquet. There was also an installation ceremony for an Alumnae chapter that was cool to see. One thing that I really enjoyed and wished I had brought a tape recorder for was a Song Fest led by the Chapter Consultants. they didn't do that at Convention this year and I'm hoping they will do it at LTS again.

Besides meeting all the various sisters, national personnel, etc one of the best nights was at the Raffle for Foundation during the Foundation Dinner. Nash (a national volunteer) was the MC, she would call out the number of the winning ticket and was absolutely hilarious. At one point a gentleman won like 3 or 4 times in a row so she auctioned off his seat. When National Personnel won they would often challenge regions, sisters, alums, divisions, etc to bid on the ticket. I remember our DCP, Joanne Barrick, challenged the sisters of Division 30 to buy her winning ticket. As the auction went on she said she would match the winning bid - you should have seen her face as it reached $100. The thing is most of the items weren't worth that much but you knew it was going to the Foundation so you didn't feel bad about it. I won a couple of bids and because of the dollar amount was able to join the Rosebud Society that night. And actually ended up moving up to the Red Rose giving level. (Like someone said bring lots of money).

Usually Burr, patterson, Auld are at the events as well as the Phi Sig Shoppe so again bring lots of money.

Just be prepared to have fun, learn lots of new things, meet some fabulous new sisters, and absolutely exhausted from spending all night with all the sisters talking :) I'm hoping to go back to LTS this year if I can afford it. For non-delegates it's about $500 plus airfare and if you arrive early then the cost of the extra nights hotel room (call CO and see if you can split the cost with other sisters from your chapter that are going).

Hopefully we can all meet up at LTS,
Carolyn

Hey,
I'm waiting for info too! I went to LTS in 1999 and convention in 2000! I was delegate for both. Now as alum I'm dying to go back, make more connections, etc....I don't really have the money but that's what credit cards are for :p

Lts is great. It is pretty much what is says - Leadership training School! so lots activities on leadership, etc. I learned a lot and had loads of fun. I'm pretty shy though, so it's tough for me to make friends in just a weekend...I kept in better contact with the girls i roomed with at convention.

It is just a wonderful time overall. I'm gonna feel weird going as alum since no alum from chapter go except the advisor...oh well, i'm still young at heart!

Hi There,

I contacted CO and here is the information about when and where LTS will be this year. It will be July 31 to August 3 at the Hyatt in New Brunswick, NJ.

CO didn't have what the fees will be for non-delegates to attend so I'm hoping that they are around the same price as Convention last year which was $550 plus airfare. I hope I can go, work has already agreed to give me the time off.

Carolyn

p.s. we just pinned 1 new member tonight from our COB activities during winter break. Its only our first week of Spring Semester so wish us well on our COB for the rest of the Semester

Thanks for the info! and congrats on pinning! My girls haven't pinned yet, i think they're still having cob events...often many PNMs just decide to wait til the fall, so we'll see..

Anyway, i plan on going to LTS...I won't have a job by that time(well prolly not) so I should have all the time in the world....money is just the issue...

New Brunswick? How far is that from NYC? Is that where Montclair U is?

Just an FYI...

New Brunswick is about 1/2 and hour- 45 minutes from NYC. That's not where Montclair is (that's up a bit further), but it is the home of Rutgers University.

I'm planning on going this year, so hope to see some of you there!

I am planning on going too!! I hope I do. We should all have a GC meeting spot and meet up to take a group picture! Last year only one rep from my chapter went, but this year I think we can send two again. I am sure we will plan more later. Hey Sf ladies, if you are going we should all fly together! that would be cool if all the cali phi sigs could fly in together, but I doubt that will work! (you never know). But don't worry I will keep you all posted if I am still going as it gets closer!

HEY!!!!

I am attending LTS this summer as Archon of the Delta Alpha Chapter at Eastern Michigan University. I am really excited to be going. I can't wait to meet Phi Sig's from all over the country. This is a really awesome oportunity for all of us. If any of you are flying out of Detroit let me know so maybe we could talk before the flight or something. Feel free to e-mail me or PM me! I think it would be cool too if we had a place for all the Greekchat users to meet!

I'll *probably* be flying from Detroit. Iknow another friend of mine is...

I was hoping just to take the bus or train there...but they don't go to New Brunswick, so i f I have to go to Newark anyway, might as well just save myself the hassle and take the plane...I haven't booked anything yet tho...

Gee, I remember DA...Shanon (right?) she was archon like 3 years ago? she was a sweetheart....

BTW it is pretty customary to wear letters in the airport...usually you can see a good dozen or so phi sigs hanging out....

you guys should advertise about

1. greekchat.com
the fact that we all have a message board on here to exchange information. . .ideas. . .fights. . .encouragements. . .should be an incentive to try and get everyone online

2. phi sig sistas on livejournal.com
the fact that i know some phi sigs on there. . .even though they havent' saved me. . .is quite comforting. . .especially when discussing aggravating boys problems

if you do that, maybe we'll have more luck in unifying ourselves as a sorority. . .and cut down some of the 'such-n-shc chapter is snobby' and 'such-n-such chapter is dying out due to low numbers'. . .and get together

of course, you could just register for the phi sig cruise and solve that. . .but *hump* i'm not going. . .

MooseGirl
05-30-2003, 02:55 PM
good idea,

and i think all us GCers and LJers should have a get-together sometime...like maybe all sit together at Foundation banquet...or when we have lunch on own on Saturday meet up in the lobby

i would be willing to make cheesy poster board sign that says GC or LJ sisters, etc... :p

I just hate how the schedule is always sooo packed, there's no time for just socializing :(

HI All,

I'm getting ready to pay my fee so that I can go to LTS as a non-delegate. Since I'm from the West Coast I really need to arrive on Wednesday evening which means I have to pay for one nights hotel room (117 per night). However the cost of the room can be split with anyone else who is a nondelegate and wants to room together. Is there anyother non delegates on here who want to share a room Wednesday night and split that cost.

If we do like 2 years ago then a few of us may catch an early train (5 or 6 a.m.) to go in to NYC for a few hours on thursday morning.

Who ever is going to LTS PM me so that I can send you my cell phone number. that way way I can let you know what room I'm in and all the GCrs can try and meet up there.

LITP,

Hi there,

First off, are you arriving on Wednesday or Thursday? I'll be arriving on Wednesday with our Archon, Luzmaria. I'll pm you with my cell phone number so you can call me when you arrive. On Thursday Luz and I are planning to take the train in to NYC early in the morning but we'll be back in time for the start of LTS itself.

From the schedule it looks like we're going to be so busy that you really won't have much time to be scared. Plus you'll be with hundreds of your sisters.

LITP,

p.s. don't forget to post your information in the roll call thread at the top of the Phi Sig forum here so we all know what chapter you're from.

I understand how it feels...my frist time to LTS was with my Archon and I was MRC, then the following year I went to convention alone!!

Is your advisor goin? She might be someone at least you know...and how about others in your region/division? Did you meet any other Archons at Division conference that you could email?

Anyway, don't worry bout it..we'll be there for ya!

Thanks for responding ladies!!

Our chapter has no advisor right now, we have had trouble keeping one, and all of the people that I met last year, and from our founders day and division conference, will not be attending LTS this summer. Which is needless to say, why I am a little worried!!..haha

Since I am coming from Detroit, Michigan, I will be arriving on Thursday morning....earrrrlllly flight...but of course wearing letters!!!

I would love to talk to everyone else about other chapter events, but I have yet to figure everything out on this website...but give me time!!! :)

Hi Heather,

I forgot what time I'm leaving exactly on Sunday but it is early, I think around noonish. Going out we're leaving at about 8:00 a.m. from Los Angeles. Luz and I will be wearing letters as well.

I'm planning to get up very very early on Thursday morning, like 5ish, to catch the train into NYC. Did you want to join me? We'll get there in time to have breakfast and walk around a little before it gets too crazy. Then first chance I get I'm going to get the grey line double decker tour bus and tour all over the place. It's great because you can get off and on it all day long like a regular bus but you have running commentary about where you're at etc. I seem to remember it costing about $40 a couple years ago but it was so worth it. I was the only one of the sisters who did it last time as everyone else wanted to shop at Macys (I have Macys here and figured it was the same as here in L.A) and a couple other sisters went out to Hunter college (But that's about all they got to see in NYC).

The best part is that last time we had to be back by 1:00 and this time stuff doesn't start until later so we probably don't have to be back at the hotel until 3:00. Any other west coasters want to get up early with me and catch the train in NYC?

Not much longer to LTS. Yeah,
Carolyn

My friend and I both received our LTS mailings today!!

I have a sister's stag and doe to go to on Saturday, so I may ask sisters for donations for the walk at that time - let's see if I can get a little bit more than the min $5!

My friend insists there is no time printed on her e-ticket stub....she says she searched all over for it! I, of course, doubt her, but hey, I guess there could have been an error!

Only 2 weeks away!!!

Oh I hope she's one of mine and Luz's roommates along with PrincessHeather. Speaking of which, Heather are you the only one coming from your chapter? If so there is a strong possibilty you could end up as our roommate.

Yes I am the only active from my chapter going. (we have 25 actives and if you have 26 you can send two. oh well the chapter is saving money) Last year our Archon (who went alone also) stayed with the Theta Chi: Sac State Chapter. So i figure i'm either staying with someone from my division (29) or maybe yours, carolyn (division 30).

Even though I'm going to be the only active Theta Mu, My advisor will be there. (which is rare for us) and also one of my chapter sisters, Clarissa is an advisor of two chapters back East. (she moved to Boston for grad school) so she will be there too.
I really want to go to New York since I've never been to the East Coast, but I should check with Diana (my advisor) to see what she wants to do. Carolyn, I have your number in my cell so I will call you when I'm there.

I have a question. Where do we stay on Wednesday night? the letter made it sound like we don't get our rooms till Thursday. Is that true?...<starts to think uh oh I sure hope not, I better bring a sleeping bag ;) >

I can't wait!!

Oh man, that picture is from last LTS when they asked me to speak at the banquet as the newest chapter, only gave me a nights notice but I think I did okay.

We'll have rooms for Wednesday night so no need to bring a sleeping bag. There will be 4 people in a room and the advisors and alums dont stay with the collegians.

Hey Heather (and any other sisters going to LTS),

Be prepared to sing songs for PhiSigCloud (Cynthia), are song chair. We're trying to build up our limited repetoire of songs and the song book you sent us was fantastic. Now we just have to learn how the tunes go for the songs. I know Cynthia is planning to bring a tape recorder. Also, I'm hoping they have a songfest this year like they did at the last LTS - it was interesting seeing how songs are sung differently sometimes.

Just over a week and counting,

Carolyn

Yikes I can't sing!!
oh yea Sorry about never getting a tape together for you guys.

Well, my voice isn't the greatest but I think I will be able to help you out with the song book. Are you bringing it? if not I can bring a copy. (I think I will either way now that I think about it) I know a good amount of them in the book but some i've never heard, but I know we can find people at LTS that do

to clue the rest of ya in, my chapter compiled a bunch of songs together to make this pretty nice song book (the common ones i.e. Rush Chants and Pref songs; the not so common ones i.e. the ones i've never heard of; Serenade songs; Songs my chapter made up i.e. the "clean ones"...I know what you all were thinking; and songs made up by other chapters: mostly the Sac State chapter they are really good at making up new songs). And I sent a copy of it to Carolyn.

woo hoo I can't wait!

Hey Heather,
I'm Cynthia, The Song chair for the Iota Gamma Chapter. And I made a copy of the song book you made for us. THANKS A LOT.
I made copies for my committee so we are learning them. The ones I know.
So yea I am going to LTS and I have to meet you. I'm taking a tape recorder to record songs because our chapter NEEDS songs. I'm tired of singing the same songs over and over.
Also, yes I will take to song book.

Can't wait to hear you sing.

ok, so I was thinking of making up some small posters on my puter - ya know, just 1-sheeter things that maybe I could post by the registration table or the idea marketplace(they are having that right?)

Anyways, I was thinking something along the lines of...
"Recognize these screen names?"
(then various SN scattered about page)
then the graphic from GC
Greekchat.com
the fraternity and Sorority Greek chat network

Any ideas? Is that too cheesy? I dunno, i like making flyers and posters, I just lack creativity sometimes....

oh, another idea...

Bringing sisters from California to Canada together...

Sandals are acceptable... My chapter USED TO have a closed-toe shoe rule and then when I went to convention last year, many people were wearing open-toed shoes... LOL, we have since changed our rules to allow for open-toed! Although, I wouldn't wear flip flops or anything... I'm a clunky heal, steve madden's kinda girl!

Hi, Phi Delta Theta from CSU Stanislaus here. I think that it is great you girls have a LTS, but on the other hand, it sucks. I say this jokingly because it took my girlfriend away from me for 5 days. Seriously though, its awesome you have a leadership training program like that. So do we. I went to it last summer, so for the girls that have not gone to LTS yet, I'm sure it will be lots of fun. Best of luck to all of you.

i was talking to gina kerley right before we handed ours in, and she told us that if it just looks really good - nice cover, pictures, neatly done - that the people who look at em are really impressed and stuff, but i dunno...

my president just called us and she said something about our chapter getting best improvement for formal recruitment or something, i dont exactly remember...but im excited :D

White Chocolate... they do give you suggestions on improvment and calculate stats. for your chapter... BUT they also judge the books themselves on neatness and creativity and they also use you reports and stuff to do chapter awards... they are judged by council members. :)

HI All,

You got to know I'm addicted to GC when I walk in the door after arriving home from LTS and just drop my suitcase in my bedroom and then run on to the PC. Of course I did check email first then signed on here.

Anyway, LTS was great. I got to meet Jen and Heather which was fantastic. Both of them are absolutely the nicest sisters!!

As for Iota Gamma getting Best Chapter Excellence Portfolio - YEAH!! That was a big shock for us although we did work really hard on it, especially since some committees never did the Event Verification Forms (That is changing this year though). We ended up doing three Chapter Excellence days at my house during spring break to get all the pictures, flyers, emails, etc together for the book and a couple chairs did the EVFs at my house. Then our poor Archon and Vice Archon worked on all the other EVFs that still needed to get done.

Anyway, yes the national personnel who look at and grade the Chapter Excellence book do like the pretty pictures, etc and that did help us. But we were told by Joanne Barrick, our RCD, that the reason we won out over other chapters whose books were even "prettier" is that we actually had the substance in it. For most of the EVFs we had actual "proof" that we did the event - we included emails, flyers, newspaper articles, etc along with pictures of the event and that is what helped us make the difference over the other chapters. Also, a lot of our events weren't just geared towards one thing. For example, recruitment wasn't just recruitment events - we'd turn it into a philanthropy, community relations, campus relations, whatever event too.

I love being a Phi Sig!!!

It was great meeting Carolyn, Luz, KC, and Jen (even though I only met Jen for a second)

Also hopefully my roomate for LTS, Tamara from Theta Uplison will sign on to greek chat.

Ok thats it... Just wanted to rave about how much fun I had.

ps. did anyone have trouble flying home on sunday?? Boy I did! my first flight was cancelled to chicago and then i was going to connect to Sacramento. the weather stopped all flights to Chicago which backed up everything in Newark, NJ (where we were flying out of) I was at the airport for six hours!! by myself before I finally got a flight to S.F. (did you know that Newark International can only go non stop to California if you are going to S.F. and L.A. other wise you have to stop in Chicago supposedly  ) I didn't get in to the west coast till 1:30 am west coast time!! It sucked! (espically for someone that doesn't normally fly. at first they were telling me i was going to have to stay the night in Jersey. I was freaking out :p)
*but I learned my lesson...next time i fly to the East Coast, fly home into SFO cuz all other airports in northern cali are considered too small. to bad they are international too. oh well right ;)

Hey there,

By Senior Member are you talking about the sister they had there at the Sphinx banquet that is the known oldest living member? Her name is Bev Parker if I remember correctly.

Oh wow, what did you guys think of seeing the actual pin that Jeanette Lipka Furst wore. I wonder what the Sphinx dangle was on the pin - wonder if it was something our Founders all wore. I just loved the historical stuff they had out before the Sphinx Banquet.

I'm trying to get in touch with Beta Rho to get a copy of their scholarship program. What they have set up was great and I'm going to pass it on to our scholarship chair.

Okay, so are we all going to make plans to go to DC next year for Convention? Let's start saving up our money now!!!

A SHMOO is suffering husbands martyered on occaison. It is a high honor given only to a select few husbands of National Personnel who have gone above and beyond what is called for. Thus they're poor husbands are often left feeling "abandoned" as they walk in the door an the wife holds up the hand to not even talk to her because she's on the phone regarding Phi Sig and no dinner isn't ready and probably won't be because she needs to take care of Phi Sig business. They had a husband inducted into the SHMOO this year.

I had an awesome time too!

I just regret not hanging out with you guys more! It's not like I did much else...there were plenty of times I was just sitting by myself (ok, maybe not plenty, but once or twice).

I hope they send CKAs next year too so that I can take advantage of the deal! (this year another advisory board member was asked before me, so I let her go for free.)

So many ideas!

BTW, I must have Phi Sig on the brain cuz 2 nights ago I had a dream about a Phi Sig woman...fictional cuz I've never met a person like her, and it was on my new campus where there is no phi sig....
Hmmm, maybe it's an omen :) (I have had dreams come true before, literally)

ETA: Oh yeah...we were stuck on the runway for 3 hours before we could lift off! It would not've been so bad, but we had a friend on an earlier flight so she had to wait for us (cuz we all drove together). Marilyn actually was quite annoyed and swears she'll never fly northwest again!

All I know is I'm not getting anywhere near the water source that Lynn Coffey, Erin Regnier, and Sandy Grossman drank from. First you had Lynn have twins this year, then Erin Regnier is due in the next month or so and then we found out Sandy Grossman is 4 1/2 months pregnant with twins. I'm so happy for them though.

By the way for sisters who didn't now - Erin stepped down as Director of Alumnae so she can concentrate on being a mom so Darcy Burke is now Director of Alumnae.

are there any exciting changes coming as far as committees are concerned?

last year, there was a spirit committee
and recently, i was told that philanthropy was now combined with fundraising
have they since undone those changes

MooseGirl
08-14-2003, 01:36 AM
do you mean on a local or national level?

I've never heard of a spirit chairman - well, i mean i have, but my chapter has never had one - we call it Sunshine instead( i think it's the same)

As for fundraising and philanthropy together - no clue...i wouldn't expect this to be a good idea since not all fundraising is for charity and not all philanthropy work entails fundraising....although they do often work together - just not always....

Sorry I have absolutely no answers, but I'm curious to know as well.
