Trent Lott Castigates FEMA and Mississippi Agency

Sen. Trent Lott is quoted as complaining angrily about FEMA and state red tape allegedly hampering hurricane relief efforts in Mississippi.

While there might conceivably be some past political history tied in here (Lott probably hasn't forgotten his tribulations in the Senate not all that long ago), the "red tape" charge is, sadly, beginning to be all too familiar. And coming from a conservative like Lott who usually supports the Administration in public--- wow.

In addition to being a little slow to act, he's said a lot of stupid stuff.

Unfortunately, so has the President. His quote about Lott rebuilding his home and President Bush wanting to spend time sitting on Lott's front porch indicate to me that he simply doesn't understand that the folks affected aren't US Senators, Representatives and well to do businessmen.

I'm sure he meant well, but I still don't think he gets it.
