PHILADELPHIA - Police discovered the remains of a missing pregnant woman and quickly arrested the father of her unborn child Saturday, ending an exhaustive, monthlong search.

District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham said Stephen Poaches would be charged with two counts of murder and related offenses for the deaths of 24-year-old LaToyia Figueroa and her fetus.

Authorities did not provide a motive or say what led them to suspect Poaches, 25, who police said was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a pistol when he was arrested.

The remains were recovered in a grassy, partially wooded lot in Chester, 13 miles from Philadelphia. A few dozen members of the Figueroa family and supporters arrived at the scene shortly after daybreak, clustering close to the police tape and embracing each other. ...

How horrible :( She was a beautiful lady.

The boyfriend sounds like a real upstanding guy with his bulletproof vest and pistol.

LaToyia's disappearance has been covered in the media here (the other side of the state) quite a bit, and even though it looked bad, I was so hoping for a better outcome. God bless her and her baby, and the family she leaves behind. LaToyia deserved better. I have to believe that there's a special circle in hell for someone who would kill a pregnant woman or a child.

Apparently one of the most at risk groups for murder is pregnant women.

If that isn't a sad commentary on society, I'm not sure what is.

That's really terrible, as is the fact that I've never heard of this woman before today.

What's sad is that apparently men would rather murder than have to pay child support.

He confessed.

It turns out, the reason he was wearing the bullet proof vest was because he was going to kill one of his friends that night after he moved the body. He needed to silence the friend who originally helped dispose of the body.

Yeah, like Rae Carruth. What a f****** idiot. At least little Chance survived, although I think he's got problems. It was utterly unnecessary to kill Cherica Adams.

I don't feel like this case got that much coverage here.

I'm sadden by the discovery of her body and I hope that bastard gets what he deserves. I guess I'm still shocked that people think they can get away with this stuff. If you don't want to have children then wear a condom or get it snipped.

Because there's one distinct difference between her and say, Laci Peterson.

I know! Being in Charlotte - that one really hit home. She was so beautiful. And the baby is also, but now he is challenged because of Ray Ray!

I wasn't familiar with this case until I saw it on "City Confidential". I could not BELIEVE that Carruth, with all his millions, would have someone killed rather than pay child support.
