View Full Version : GC friends, my search is finally over!!!!!

Well, it has been quite the search of a lifetime. I've spent the last months anxiously learning all I can about restaurants -- what they serve, their philosophy, the background of their chefs, what silverware they use -- and I think I've finally found a match! It's really like a gift from heaven that I've managed to find such a place. It's a dream come true! I can't wait to finally dine at my choice, which for now I will call "Yap, Micronesia" so I don't give it away!

Why don't you all guess where I'm going to dinner tonight!!!

I love you ;)

And I guess that you're going to McDonald's, Wendy's is a bottom tier resteraunt...McDonald's is upper middle tier, it's definately Mickey D's.

Let us know soon, my whole life is going to be put aside until I discover where you're going!!!!

Okay I will give you a hint. No, make that TWO hints because I am feeling exceptionally generous today.

The restaurant has an "A" in the name.
The restaurant's mascot is not a clown. In fact, I'm not sure that the restaurant even HAS a mascot!

OMG THAT BURGER KING THING IS THE WORST!!!
My friend is petrified of things in costume (ie, she almost started crying in the mall when Bearmy from Build a Bear hugged her from behind- it was one of our sister in the costume) but things on tv don't usually bother her.

Yeah, she had a flat out PANIC ATTACK when that thing came on. I was almost with her. ::shudders:: almost as bad as the nail fungus commerical

Well you guys, I was so excited last night. I wore a knee length khaki skirt, a pink twinset, pearls and some darling little kitten heel sandals. I was all set to make my dream of dining at a fine establishment a reality.

I arrived at the restaurant in time for my 7:30 reservation, but unfortunately I was told that due to an unexpectedly large group that arrived immediately prior, I would have to wait for up to half an hour for my table. I was crushed. It just wasn't meant to be with this restaurant, so I returned home and dined on frozen pizza.

Of course I'm terribly sad about this development as I had high hopes that this restaurant would be the home I have sought for so long. Alas, I will continue my search and hopefully I will find a different place to dine this weekend!

Valkyrie, don't listen to Peaches-n-Cream. Everyone can find their dinner in a restaurant! Just keep your head up and keep going to every restaurant there is, even if they don't have any reservations available! You should try to talk to people who are already dining and see if you can eat with them. Don't give up!

You should bother the maitre'd and sommelier a lot too. Also, annoy people who have already eaten at the restaraunt non-stop, and remember, when you finally do get to eat the delicious nachos, YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM THAN ANYONE ELSE.

Gosh you guys I am really torn!

I was born the daughter of a sharecropper in rural Alabama. We didn't have indoor plumbing or schools, so I was tutored at home by a kindly older woman from down the street when I wasn't churning butter or darning socks. When I was 16, a new family moved in the house next door and after my family was done ridiculing them for their impolite ways, I made my first friend! It was a glorious experience to finally have a girlfriend to hang out with and discuss my secrets and hopes for a future filled with love, friendship and family. We spent many nights together talking about poetry and love and then one day she mentioned the restaurants. Oh, the restaurants. I had never heard of such a glorious thing -- a place where people from all walks of life come together to EAT! It sounded like such magic! Of course my humble family could not afford such indulgences but one day I did go into town and peer in the windows of various dining establishments. I tried to go into a few but when the staff saw my dirty shoes and mismatched plaid outfits sewn by my dear mother, they refused to allow me to enter. I won't let that stop me in my quest, though, dear friends. I will continue my quest! I am confident that somewhere in this world, there is a restaurant for me!

May I assume that this is a put-on? With all of the very nice places to dine which can be found all over the map its hardly the undertaking of a lifetime to find a good first class restaurant? I have to think you are a reasonably sophisticated woman who is no stranger to places where white tablecloths, good flatware, wine glasses, etc are the norm and this is just a bit of humor. If one were anticipating a great meal at a fine restaurant and were informed by the Maitre'd that there would be a slight delay in seating you I must assume that you would simply say, "Very well, Ill wait in your anteroom/or lounge and please send someone with a Kir", or whatever I felt like, while waiting for my table. Half an hour is hardly unusual for a busy restaurant.
Were you dining alone or with friends? If alone or with a date a large party would not likely cause a delay in seating a single/couple customer. If with a party of several, a delay would not be unexpected. If an exceptionally long delay took place the house would most likely apologize and send over complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvre. So, this is a put-on, isn't it?

Val,
I understand your frustration. I, too, was an adult before I was able to have my first restaurant experience. I heard others talk about their experiences, but it just wasn't my time. Finally, when the right moment came, I was ready. Alas, the first time was a big dissapointment. But each subsequent time got better and better.

I'm sure it will happen for you soon. In the meantime, just keep fantasizing about it.

how dare any restaurant not serve you? They don't know what they're missing! It's their loss! There's no way in hell you could be anything other than absolutely perfect! Even though you're broke and couldn't pay for the meal, dressed like a homeless person, and have the table manners of cookie monster, you still were perfect for them and they made a huge mistake!

Hello, friends.

I was sitting around last night feeling sorry for myself since things didn't work out with Yap, Micronesia. I had one beer and then another and another and I thought long and hard about what exactly I wanted from a restaurant. Is this worth it, I asked myself. Yes, it is! Fueled by my longstanding dreams and the kind words of encouragement from my dear friends on GC, I got dressed (in black pants from Ann Taylor, a lacy Banana Republic shirt and coordinating Fendi handbag with JCrew boots) and took a cab to a restaurant that has always appealed to me ever since I once read their menu while passing by one evening.

My hopes were quickly dashed once I arrived and there was not an available table. From the lobby, I called a dear old friend from college (I was able to attend a fine university thanks to a scholarship that resulted from a hybrid verbena plant I developed when I was 17 that is both fragrant, beautiful and exceptionally drought resistant) who is in the Junior League in Virginia. She had many comforting words for me, and it just so happened that a kind woman who was also a member of Junior League in Virginia was leaving the restaurant as I was emotionally discussing my restaurant problems with my friend. I'll be darned if she didn't stop right then and there and tell me that she knows someone who owns a great restaurant just a few blocks away! She offered to accompany me to this restaurant, which I will call Vilnius, Lithuania, next Sunday for brunch! I am simply beside myself! I hope Vilnius, Lithuania will be my new home!

What should I wear to brunch when I hope to make a good impression on my new friend?

Oh, and don't forget to send a thank you card to the kind women from Junior League for assisting you in finding a restaurant that may become your home!

I really hope Vilnius, Lithuania works out for you! But if it doesn't, I know someone in Vladivostok, Russia who may be able to help you in getting seated at a wonderful Russian restaurant. PM me for details.

OH GOODNESS. That is very kind of you but I'm a vegetarian and heart disease seems to run in my family and I can only assume it is the result of my ancestors eating too much meaty stuff and so I really think I should try to stick it out and find a restaurant whose philanthropy and menu more closely aligns with my moral code and propensity for clogged arteries. However maybe if I am rejected by my top 25 restaurant choices I will consider it.

I'm worried because I was supposed to have dinner at Lithuania the other Saturday but the woman I was supposed to meet did not return any of the messages I left her, and I'm a persistent little devil so I know I left her at least 28 messages last Friday, and that was BEFORE I started drinking! HAHA! So we'll see what happens! I'll keep you posted! And congratulations to you on finding a restaurant! It really is a gift from Good Ol' God when you receive such a glorious blessing, isn't it? It's just like a little bit of heaven on earth, I tell you! It really gives your life meaning!

Since so many have had successful searches for the perfect restaurant, I think I will tell you about mine. I am looking for a restaurant of my own, however, I have a complication this week. It's Passover so there must be menu items which are kosher for Passover. (ie things I can eat that are not made with flour or wheat.) I have no idea where to start. Can you help me?

Maybe a Kosher Deli. There is a Kosher Chinese restaurant in NYC. Maybe you have one in your city.

Here is some Kosher wine for you:

THE SEARCH IS OVER

How can I convince you what you see is real
Who am I to blame you for doubting what you feel
I was always reachin', you were just a girl I knew
I took for granted the friend I have in you

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
Now I look into your eyes
I can see forever, the search is over
You were with me all the while

Can we last forever, will we fall apart
At times it's so confusing, these questions of the heart
You followed me through changes and patiently you'd wait
Till I came to my senses through some miracle of fate

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
Now I look into your eyes
I can see forever, the search is over
You were with me all the while

Now the miles stretch out behind me
Loves that I have lost
Broken hearts lie victims of the game
Then good luck it finally struck
Like lightning from the blue
Every highway leading me back to you

Now at last I hold you, now all is said and done
The search has come full circle
Our destinies are one
So if you ever loved me
Show me that you give a damn
You'll know for certain
The man I really am

I was living for a dream, loving for a moment
Taking on the world, that was just my style
Then I touched your hand, I could hear you whisper
The search is over, love was right before my eyes

Well e-frenz, I have amazing, important news to share today!

I left on my lunch break today starving and hungover, my headache growing by the minute. I decided to take drastic action and I drove directly to Little Caesars, where I entered and placed an order for pizza, crazy bread and sauce. LO AND BEHOLD the young man called me ma'am and prompty presented me with my food! I mean, I've always been interested in Little Caesars ever since I was a wee girl and there was one by my house and I knew they had CHEESE and stuff in there and it really did a lot for the neighborhood.

I could not believe it. I am beside myself. This is the most amazing day that has ever happened in my life. Never had I imagined that my search would lead me to cheap pizza on a Thursday afternoon! I am pleased to report that Little Caesars is MULTICULURAL! And dedicated to bringing cheap pizza to impoverished neighborhoods all over the country! And they have pizza HOT AND READY for you all the time and if there's one thing I like, it's being associated with something that is HOT AND READY!

Hopefully I will be able to take the next step with Little Caesars. I hope to eat there several times a month and I can't wait to hop over onto Ebay to buy Little Caesars tshirts and keychains. Hopefully I can get flip flops too with the little hairy chested mascot on them.

Well GC friends, this has been quite an adventure for me. I will of course keep you all posted on how things are going for me with my new home. I won't fall off the face of the earth now that I've finally found meaning in my life! I wish you all the best and gosh darn it hopefully someday soon I will be engaged so I can have a wedding catered by Little Caesars and where my best sisters in the world can sing Little Caesars songs to me and my new husband and then soon after that maybe I will even have a little legacy I can name Littley or Caesar or LittleCaesara and then my life will be truly wonderful and I will be blessed!

I got a $10 gift card to Buca di Beppo in the mail today, unsolicited. Perhaps this is a sign and I should go with my gut!

val, you must tell us who the other restaurants are?

Also, has your money at Little Caesar's been accepted yet? I am so happy for you but I want to make sure that you don't get your hopes up for nothing. After all, there might be some people who eat at Little Caesar's here so you really do have to be discrete!

LITTLE CAESARS LEFTOVERS!!!!!!!!!

They were good even after being microwaved! The cheese wasn't really that rubbery! It was amazing! I'm so happy and hope this all works out! And I'm sorry I'm not being very discreet but I'm just so excited I want to shout from the rooftops how much I love Little Caesars!

You made a great choice. The Little Caesar's toga is just too cute.

I'm kind of worried because I heard they make us wear togas and large fake plastic noses during initiation. Is that hazing?!

You know Little Ceasar's has such a bad reputation in my town. How are they in your town? Think twice before eating there if they have a bad reputation in your town, too.

You know, you could always move to another town that has a great Little Ceasar's and eat there. ;)

OMGBBQ - that is such wonderful news. I am glad you love them so much. All we have in my neighborhood is Mr. Jim's and it's a local.;)

I have to ask, how far in advance did you plan your attire for the fete? Did you wear Lilly, carry Vera, and bling Tiffany? Or was it a no-frills type of lunch?

So how are things going with Little Caesar's? Is it all you dreamed it would be?

Yum! I have not had Little Caeser's in years! I think their large pizzas were $4.99.

The brand new GCers are probably wondering what we are smoking. They're like "what's up with all of the drama over valkyrie's restaurant search?"

The saga continues.

After my glorious lunch of Little Caesar's "hot and ready" cheese pizza and my enjoyment of the leftovers, I sent an elegantly worded thank you note to the restaurant manager on some monogrammed stationery I special ordered just for such an occasion. I was very worried because I did not hear back from the restaurant manager. What if they don't really like me?

Then just a few days ago, we were hungry and got another "hot and ready" cheese pizza AND some crazy bread with sauce. I couldn't believe it because I'd been so worried that nobody had been in touch with me for so long, but the pizza was great, fresh even! It had plenty of sauce, and this reconfirmed my earlier thoughts that this is the restaurant for me.
