Hi, Sorors and Friends! I'm back!
I just wanted to express my enthusiasm over the popularity of the name "The Red Zone!" It was my idea, so I'm pleased that you like it. Let me explain (for more points), why I think it is a befitting name.
I happen to LOVE football with a passion, and if any of you know the sport as well as I do, you are very familiar with "the red zone." In football, the red zone is the 20 yards in front of the inzone (the opponent's 20 and below). This means you, while on offense, have 20 yards to make the touchdown.
What does this mean to Delta Sigma Theta, you ask? (Don't I sound like Marc John Jeffries with People PC?) Well, just think about it-- when a team is in the red zone, its members know that it's do or die. They are very close to their goal, indeed, but they NEED to stay focused, united, and strong, or else the defense will keep pusing them back, thus preventing them from scoring. Both teams tend to play their best in The Red Zone for they know that whatever happens in this area of the field can make or break their chances of winning the game.
As black women committed to public service (Sorors and non-Deltas), we are always in The Red Zone because we are always faced with adversity and challenges that can keep us from reaching our goal. We play both offense and defense and we know that, in The Red Zone, we have to demonstrate optimism, teamwork, strength, and FORTITUDE if we want to achieve our goals. Any athlete will tell you that the one who wins the game is the one with the biggest HEART. As Deltas and as women committed to helping others, we must also have the HEART! And, while we aren't athletes and community service/sisterhood is definitely not a game, we do have the same passion, drive, determination and heart that those guys have when they step into... The Red Zone!
Okay. I know it was corney and a bit verbose, but that's why I came up with The Red Zone! What do you think?
Love you all!!!!
