I did a search and didn't see this posted yet. Anyhow, here is the link the the Yahoo! article:

Evidently, they linked long term usage of Vioxx to cardiovascular problems and increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Scary. Guess I won't be refilling my prescription today.

Is it just me, or does it seem like pretty much everything in life is dangerous and hazardous to our health?
As someone pointed out to me many years ago, the biggest cause of death in the world throughout all of history is life.

I've tried Vioxx. Didn't do a thing for me in terms of pain relief, so I went back to my trusty Advil.
Wonder how long it'll be before Advil is linked to something horrible and recalled? :p

One of my sisters is on this. She saw the report and I think she's going to off of it.

It is ironic when incomplete data gets turned around and someone high up in big pharma decides this is the way to go...
Vioxx is a cyclo-oxygenase 2 inhibitor (Coxibs). How it supresses pain in joints and arthritis is still under intense investigation. Celebrex and many of the NSAIDs do similar actions...
But all arthritis is not just inhibition of Cox2... There is more to it that just that... The chemical must be reacting with other enzymes causing severe stress on other organ systems, such as the heart, to cause infarction... That is being investigated, too.
Too bad for Merck... Just a few changes in their combinatorial chemistry and functional groups with a couple of more years in R&D may be would have saved them from all of this...
Merck is still pissed off with Pfizer for producing Viagra and pissed off with Eli Lilly for producing Prozac... Merck just is not the first one's to put stuff on the market since Mevacor--the cholesterol reducing drug... And Parke-Davis, bought out by Pfizer, makes the better product, Lipitor...
Big Pharma--not just for your health...
No wonder these new age nutriceuticals are big business...

I LOVED VIOXX!!!! IT WAS SO MUCH BETTER THEN CELEBREX!!! i had celebrex when i hurt my achillies, but when i did my back/hip and was given vioxx...man, that stuff was good!!
advil is always a good standby. but seriously, if advil is ever recalled, i'm screwed. back in the day when i was a real athlete, i would take up to 12-15 a day. 2 every 4 hours...4 every 2 hours, whats the difference?

I had vioxx after my surgery last year and it worked for me too. Now I see why the doctor was concerned when I wanted to get a refill.......
