Hi. I just went to see the new movie llegaly blonde and I was wondering if any of you guys know if one of your sisters wrote or produced the movie? I am asking because the sorority in the movie is Delta Nu, and if you turn a zeta on its side its an N, also there colors were pink and green. Anyway I was just wondering, Thanks!! =)

SigKapCutie,

Thanks for the info about the movie! I didn't realize the similarity between Delta Zeta and Delta Nu until you mentioned them. However, I'm sorry to say that I have no idea if DZ was the model for Delta Nu. It would be nice to think so, though! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Well, I heard that Delta Nu was based on Delta Gamma (supposedly on the Legally Blonde website, there was a little sentence that said something like "be the best you can be...delta gamma..").

It was also filmed at USC...I remember hearing that it was filmed at the DG house? Am I right?

Reese did her research at the USC DG house--I haven't seen it yet--tomorrow night I am--but she's been widely quoted in the media as saying her character is based on USC sorority girls and there's not a chapter of DZ at USC. If you go to www.legallyblonde.com (http://www.legallyblonde.com) and do the make a postcard section, there's a quote that says something like "Choosing the wrong sorority can ruin your whole life--choose the best--Delta Gamma." Oh, and the USC DG chapter is Alpha Nu chapter of DG, so it makes sense that its Delta Nu.

I saw this movie and noticed the similarities in colors and letters, but that's it. I really didn't think about it any further. I LOVED the movie though!

Delta Gamma's colours are Pink, Blue and Bronze.

Red and Gold...sounds like Chi Omega to me (red and "straw")

I'd like to think that Delta Nu is based on Delta Zeta because 1)the sorority colors are pink and green and 2) well, a "Z" on its side IS a Nu!. But I couldn't help but notice when they showed Elle Woods' sorority paddle it had a crest that was identical to Delta Gamma's except for having some sort of animal head at the top instead of a rose. I guess that settles THAT! lol

Well, I'm sure Elle would have pledged DZ if they'd had it at her college! ;)

I graduted from the same school as Reese, although she graduated MUCH earlier than I did, my sister (biologically) had the advantage of being in her class....not to mention I can see her parent's house (where she grew up) out of my window. The house in the movie is no longer occupied by ANY sorority...however the establishment you see in the movie was a DZ house;)

Sorry to crash your boards ladies,

Reese went to Stanford, but only for a year or less.

I graduated from Harpeth Hall in Nashville, and so did she.

Butterfly, as you were talking about DZ in the thread, it was natural for me to assume you were talking about college.

I worked with Reese on one of her previous films, she is a great gal!

See DG forum for more on the Legally Blonde connection. Reese did her research at the Univ of Southern Cal DG and KKG houses.

I would say that Delta Nu is a hybrid of DZ and DG; Delta Nu had DZ's colors and DG's crest:

Just change the rose at the top to a chihuahua's head and you'll have it right! (cuz Elle had a chihuahua named "Bruiser"). I love that MOVIE!! :D

Hi Ladies,

Some of you may notice that I edited a few of the posts in this thread. Apparently there was some confusion about what school Reese W. attended, and some tempers seem to have flared during that particular discussion. The matter has been cleared up now, so let's proceed with the convo in a civil fashion. :)

If anyone has questions about why one of their posts was edited/deleted, please feel free to PM me.

Thanks!

Hi there.

One of the screenwriters is an Alpha Gam. Here is an article.

I have not read anything about the author of novel or the other screenwriter being in a sorority. But I haven't read anything about them not being in a sorority either. :)

anyone else just think Reese is the most adorable thing? She could be a fraternity member for all I care. She just comes across as so sweet.

Doesn't she? I agree :)

She is sweet in real life too.

Just saw a quote from her where she was answering some reporter's question as to why she keeps her image so modest. She said "If you market yourself as a sexy actress, then one day you're 'that actress who used to be sexy'."

She's always so classy. Def one of my fav celebs.

At the following website you can read an exerpt from the book and it mentions DG several times! The book was actually written with the girls being sisters of DG and then in the movie it was changed to DN.

Legally Blonde Book (http://www.amanda-brown.com/)

This comes from the sluthing of JohnsDGsweethrt over in the DG forum.

Actually ladies...The director of legally blonde was a Delta Zeta and our sorority house at University of Florida is designed after the staircase from the movie.

Also a few of my sisters went to New York this past summer and got to go back stage for the legally blonde Broadway play because they were Delta zetas.

I didn't know Delta Zeta allowed male membership!

Hmmm... that is strange....because the Broadway version has different writers!

Hey!
I had heard to that legally blonde was based on Delta Zeta but the sorority house in that movie in not a sorority house at all. It's the villa at my old high school. Check it out if you are interested: alverno-hs.org

A quick Google search indicates that the directors of Legally Blonde 1, Legally Blonde 2, and Legally Blonde - the musical are all male.

How far is the villa from CalTech? Several sources say that the exteriors were filmed at the CalTech campus.

ok so for everyone who is too lazy and cannot go to the actual movie website or open the Legally Blonde book, the sorority is in fact based on Delta Gamma. But the name got changed in the movie to avoid any problems with the sorority....so there you go. :)

For those too lazy to read the forums they post in, it's already been revealed (http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/showpost.php?p=427372&postcount=19) that the book/movie is based on DG.

Gotta love keyboard courage

Interesting first post.

I'm surprised the DZ mods haven't closed this already. The pissing contest is so passť.

Well, since the thread's still open, I looooove Legally Blonde. :)

But what is it about the movie's sorority references that would make DZ and DG get into a pissing contest? I never read the book so does the book place sororities in a less superficial light than the movie did? The movie references certainly aren't flattering enough for a pissing contest--besides the obvious "sisterhood" mentions.

I don't see the movie references as the issue. It just seems like DGs/DZs feel the need to continue the debate so that one of them can once and for all claim "ZOMG! Legally Blonde was written for us! We're special and better than you!"

Why's this thread still open? Where else can you find people crashing our board to discuss with such passion a movie from 2001? It's amusing to us to say the least :)

The writer of Legally Blonde was a student at James Madison University and she based the movie off of her friend who was a member of JMU's Delta Gamma chapter, Epsilon Nu. The sorority in the movie gets it's name from the combination of the sorority itself and the chapter.... Delta (Gamma) (Epsilon) Nu. Delta Gamma's crest appears in the movie at some point, but it has Bruiser's head in the center of it.

In the opening sequence, they show a pledge paddle and the crest of Delta Nu is *very* similar to Delta Gamma's crest, but yes, instead of the top of the crest being a rose, it's a chihuahua's head (yes, I used to be totally obsessed with that movie and I own the DVD of it of both #1 and #2 Legally Blonde). :D:p

I've also seen the "third" movie, called "Legally Blondes" which is a terrible movie, but hey, I still needed to see it to satisfy my curiousity.

and yes, this is a 10 year old thread. :D

I watched it with my then-12 year old niece. Yeah...it was pretty bad. But these are the things we do for the children we love.
