Hey Girls! I personally think my chapter's chants are outdated and kinda dumb, so if you come up with some good ones please let me know. Also, what kind of songs are you talking about? We are very much lacking in this area because no one teaches the songs and we don't even know all the songs for ritual (pretty pathetic, huh?). Please pass along any songs too. Songs in the Convention book are ones for ceremonies, and a few of them are in the Bonds, but the ones that you might not have are: Garden of Old Alpha Xi, Now We Are Sisters Together, The Thought in the Heart of the Rose, Tonight Will Never Come Again, Of Thee I Cherish, The Rose of Alpha Xi (different song than "I love the rose of Alpha Xi"), The Seasons, and Shades of Gold and Double Blue (a chapter favorite).

And then there are the less appropriate ones that our chapter president learned at the convention...

Well I can tell you a few songs that we do, I'll just list the names and if you want to know lyrics or anything let me know. Well we do the Rose (tune of Bette Midler's Rose--but AxiD lyrics), Rose Round, Battle Cry, Linger, Remember Alpha Xi Delta, A sisterhood of women, we're all good sisters, Pass it on....etc. Oh yeah and I wrote an AxiD song for the graduating seniors...I hope that answered your question...what do you do?

My chapter is looking for some new door chants to use for formal fall recruitment next autumn. I personally really liked all of the ones that we did this year, but they just aren't that memorable to the new members. They can still remember songs from other houses, but none from Alpha Xi... Does anyone have any easy to learn door chants that might work for us?? I'd be REALLY grateful, and I know that our VP of Recruitment would be too.

Yes, it's true. It's sort of the pledge class gift to the initiated members. There are a ton of songs to choose from, so we always have a variety. What we lack in chants we make up for in songs. It makes singing those songs even more memorable because they mean something to all of us. Whenever I hear the song "At the Beginning" from the Anastasia soundtrack, I kind of get all weepy b/c that's my pledge class song! Some songs we've used in the past, and put AXiD lyrics to, are:
-The Rose
-Save the Best for Last by Vanessa Williams
-Without You by the Dixie Chicks
-You'll be in My Heart from the Tarzan soundtrack
-Beautiful in My Eyes by Elton John
Also, it's a great way for your pledge class to leave their mark on the chapter!

how funny, i have heard this chant before, but the version i have heard is a little different at the end i think. my question is, do you sing it or is it spoken? they way i have heard it is sung. i get so far with the singing on yours, but it all falls apart when i get to the part where you spell out a-l-p-h-a. oh well, anyway, just wondering because i really like it, but my chaper does not do it and i do not know how to end the version i know.
We do not have very many chants, as we realized this year at greek week:) the one we do the most often is really simple:

a-l-p-h-a, x-i-d-e-l-t-a
alpha xi, alpha xi
delta

yeah i know really not very original, but when you repeat it and get faster and louder each time it is very effective.:D

just for clarification, say the a-l slower than the p-h-a, take a pause, and then spell the rest about the same speed as the p-h-a

oh yes,
cause we are the best!

-repeated over and over again with increasing volumne.

There is a CD and I know our Song Leader has a copy of it. The only thing is that it's majorly outdated. The songs sound really high and hard to sing.

The East Tennessee State University chapter has been using a similar chant for a while. Here's how that one goes.

AAAAAAHHHHHH.........(everyone brings hands into center circling up) 1,2,3, Alpha, Alpha Alpha Xi! We're the best sorority. Don't you wish that you could be an ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA.
Hidy Tidy gosh almighty who the heck are we? We're the best of all the rest, we are Alpha Xi!! (GREAT song for getting PUMPED UP!)

One of the ELC's, Laura, taught us this fun one that we used for recruitment:

I am an Alpha! (short pause) I am a Xi! (short pause) I am an Alpha Xi Delta sorority girl!! And I have AXiD Spirit in my H-E-A-R-T and I will L-O-V-E love it all the T-I-M-E time! (repeat as many times as you want)
