View Full Version : Silver or gold?

So, I'm a total jewelry freak.....and I have both a lot of gold jewelry and a lot of silver jewelry. I really like both, but seem to wear silver more.....probably six out of seven days I have on silver jewelry. I think it just goes with the color of a lot of my clothes better.

What are your preferences?

I am a silver girl all the way! :) The only exception to my all silver jewelry rule is my key.

Gold. It flatters my coloring MUCH better than silver ever could. I know it's not trendy but oh well.

Silver.

This ain't the 90's (unfortunately)! Even those "thuggin" have toned down on the gold.

I like silver better... I went through a phase in high school when everything had to be gold, but not anymore. I'll still wear gold--my grandbig gave me a gold lavalier so I'll wear that and small gold ball earrings. If I'm wearing silver though, the rest of my jewelry has to be silver too, it's just a thing I have.

Silver for me.

Silver! I dont' own but maybe 2 or 3 things in yellow gold.

My engagement ring is platinum (although all I asked for was "not yellow gold").

I hate hate HATE the two tone look (its like black shoes with a brown belt, to me), so the more silver-tone jewelry I get, the more I will wear it exclusively. It's like a viscious cycle.

I don't know...

But I think the silver looks pretty bling on thess guys:

1 more vote for silver. I have a few things that are gold that I'll wear occasionally, but I'm a silver kind of girl.

Most of my jewelry is silver, although I have some gold that I wear.

Silver, although white gold is ok w/me.

The official "rock" has got to be platinum, tho!

I've been wearing silver all my life. I definately think that it accents my skin tones and my hair better. My mom always tells me that when I get older I will want to wear gold because its more dignified. I highly doubt that I'll ever change because I love silver so much. But I guess I'll never say never...

Gold. I think I am the only one that favors yellow gold. Yellow gold looks better against my skin. My wedding rings are yellow gold.

But my lavaliers are silver. I do want a yellow gold one

I do both silver and gold...depends on what I'm wearing. If I wear one peice that's gold...everything else must be gold. Same with silver.

the only yellow gold i own is my badge and my lavalier, since i am an alum i almost never wear either. so i'm definately a silver-tone jewelry girl :)

Always and only yellow gold.

Silver/white gold just feels wrong on me. My initiation pin is white gold, and it's the very last thing I've bought in white gold. When I wear it, I do mix the yellow & white golds - simply because it's now the only white gold piece of jewelry I own.

I usually only wear white gold.

Same for me. Most of the jewelry I wear is either silver, white gold, or platinum. (and most of it was given to me by my husband!)

Ginger

Most of my jewelry happens to be yellow gold. Same as others have said. I don't particularly care either way, but all of the jewelry that's been bought for me has been yellow gold, so I guess it will continue to be.

My engagement ring is two tone yellow and white gold. I don't know whether I should get a gold or white gold/silver/platinum wedding band. Neither one looks right.

I'm a silver/white gold girl myself. The only yellow gold things I own are my diamond earrings (and you can't tell they're gold), my two-tone Gamma Phi Beta badge, and my gold rescued badge. Yellow gold is just not flattering on me.

And I want my official rock to be white gold. Platinum scares me.

I've never been crazy about gold...Doesn't go well with my complexion and it's more expensive than silver!! :p

Definatly white gold, but for awhile I've been wearing yellow because my boyfriend gave me a set of yellow gold earrings/necklace and the reason he did that is because my ring (mystic fire topaz) couldn't be found in white gold so he gave me some pieces to go with it...no, it's not the offical rock either...it's a symbol of me being true to me...the offical one must be white and diamond....

I have a two toned watch so I can wear either yellow gold or silver/white gold jewelry with it. I usually wear yellow gold because I have more of that. I have some pretty silver and white gold jewelry so sometimes I wear that.

This thread makes me remember when my college boyfriend bought me a silver necklace and bracelet for Christmas and I literally burst into tears when I opened the box. I was so worried that all my sisters would think my boyfriend was a cheapskate because he didn't buy me gold! lol

Back to the question at hand, though. I have lots of gold and lots of silver so I guess I am covered whichever way the fashion winds blow. My engagement ring is platinum, as is my eternity band but my "everyday" wedding ring is platinum with yellow gold edges. And, of course, my Badge is yellow gold!

I"m definitely a silver lover. Gold does look good sometimes, but it has to be with the right outfit for sure! You can never get sick of silver though...

I wear silver virtually every day of the week b/c I like thje ay it looks better with the colors of the clothes I wear, and if I'm dressed casually (silver jewelry in my mind seems to be more casual and everyday-looking). But if I am wearing tan or brown then I may switch to gold for that day. I do think that gold flatters my skin tone though better than silver. Lucky for me I have lots of jewelry in both colors. :)

I wear either silver or yellow gold, depending on several factors. Yellow gold looks nice against my skin tone. But if I'm wearing cool colors (such as a turquoise top and navy pants), or if my hardware on my handbag is silver-tone, I switch to silver.

Silver/white gold/platinum for me.

The main exceptions are (1) my wedding ring, which is two-tone white and yellow gold; (2) my class ring, which I could have gotten in white gold but traditionally it's yellow gold; and (3) my badge.

This is why I'm so annoyed that we can't customize our badges... I'd probably wear mine more if I could have gotten it in white gold. :(

Hush yo' mouth.

You'll be lucky just to get a rock so don't be picky.

Remember Jules, you are going to want the guy to marry you and that means he'll have to put up with your ass too. Getting a platinum setting should be the least of your worries!!

Umm....I don't wear jewelry (YES...I am officially a mutant girl!!), but I do like silver/white gold/platinum better than yellow gold. BUT...my pin is yellow gold, and my lavaliere is silver (not that I ever wear it or anything!)

And my engagement ring and wedding band better be platinum or white gold. That's the only jewelry I plan on wearing all the time!!

Platinum :D

I would prefer platinum because it looks like silver, but it's more expensive.

I think I look better in silver jewlery. I don't like gold, if I do wear gold, I prefer it to be white gold.

Hootie, I'll trade you, your rock for my Rolex.

By Rolex, I mean a watch I bought off the street for $10 from some shady looking guy. ;)

My boss received a real Rolex for her birthday which might 'accidentally' slip off her wrist and into my pocket.

At this point, everyone knows to buy me white gold/silver/platinum. I think yellow gold looks too much like my own skin tone, and looks slightly cheap on me. My watch is two-tone, and I like it. But as soon as it's time for a trade-in, I'll go with another material.

Hootie, I want a Rolex. I'm attracted to the reputation and quality, plus I think it's time for a big girl watch. What kind do you all sell?

Hootie, you're going to have a bling bling Rolex. I want to see a picture. :)

My sister worked for a luxury watch company. She paid 1/3 retail for her watches. Nice perk for her!

My parents got me into gold jewelry as a child. So, majority of my pieces are gold. My watch is two-toned though. I do like the look of silver. My main problem is that I have 7 earrings, all which are gold (little hoops, nothing too big). When I do wear silver, I take them all out and replace the first set with silver hoops. My boyfriend keeps telling me I better build up my collection of silver, white gold, or plantinum cause that's what my ring will be when he gets it! Plantinum, that is. Damn, I guess I can settle for that! ;)

Is white gold more expensive than yellow gold . . and why is it white? Do they dye it or something?

I can't find anything on the cost difference, but white gold is explained here:

and I'd choose Platinum.

I absolutely adore yellow gold. My parents gave me my first yellow gold diamond ring when I was tiny. It's like a size 1.5. I was hooked from then on. I do prefer lighter shades of yellow gold though. :) White gold/silver/platinum doesn't look right on me. Just makes me look more pasty than usual. :)
